1. Other than that terrible Todd Phillips-Zach Galifianakis comedy Due Date, Robert Downey Jr. hasn't played a character other than Tony Stark or Sherlock Holmes in four years. Of all the actors who could have ended up settling into tentpole action star roles? Downey? I caught Robert Altman's Short Cuts again recently, and while Downey has a small, minor role, I was taken aback by how compelling and terrifying he was, just on sight. He was just as shiftily charming then, but in that sort of mad, apocalyptic, drug-addled '90s way. He seemed headed for a career of playing doomed, insane poets for a few years until someone found him in a hotel somewhere. He was going that way, too—remember all his arrests, the Ally McBeal recovery period, and the time he lost his part in Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda (and was replaced by Will Ferrell) because he couldn't get insured—until he turned around. And, amazingly, he turned into this.

New Trailer for ‘Iron Man 3′

Iron Man 3 is set to kick off “Phase II” of Marvel’s cinematic universe in a little less than two months, and today we’ve been graced with a new theatrical trailer for Tony Stark’s next adventure. Take a look:

To begin, let’s start with the end: Holy s**t, Tony Stark has an army of suits (dubbed the Iron Legion) at his disposal, including a behemoth of one, which may or may not be some kind of Hulk-buster armor prototype (but that’s a whole other conversation). We’re not exactly sure why Stark needs that many suits (what the hell are they about to fight? The Mandarin is the film’s antagonist, but what has he unleashed that requires a Stark army?), but the fact that upwards, of, say, 20 arc reactors are needed to take down whatever they’re up against is so incredibly exciting.
After The Avengers delivered one of the most satisfying and action-packed third acts in recent memory and Iron Man 2, well, didn’t, it’s really encouraging to see Iron Man 3 ready to ramp up the action and c

‘Iron Man 3′ Has New Poster & Super Bowl Teaser

Walt Disney Pictures will have a big marketing stake in Super Bowl XLVII this weekend – they’re set to promote their films The Lone Ranger, Oz: The Great and Powerful, as well as Iron Man 3. This has been a big promotional week for the latter in particular, with a new poster and 15-second Super Bowl teaser spot being released to the public on Wednesday.
The teaser doesn’t really offer much that we didn’t already get from the first full trailer, but I think it’s safe to expect the Super Bowl trailer to be pretty epic. The poster, however, is very interesting as it depicts a screaming Tony Stark plummeting to Earth as his Iron Man suit disintegrates.
The poster is likely a reflection of the film’s darker tone and the idea that Stark might finally be feeling the full weight of being Iron Man as new threats (most notably The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley) present themselves to him. We get a pretty good idea from the full length trailer that the third installment of the series is goin...

2013 Movie Preview: Part 1

2012 gave us some stellar cinematic experiences, from blockbusters like ‘The Avengers,’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ to kid-friendly successes like ‘Brave,’ and ‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ to heartwarming and hilarious dramedies like ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’
With 2013 just on the horizon (Mayans be damned!), it’s time to look ahead and preview some of the movies we’re most looking forward to.

Gangster Squad — January 11

‘Gangster Squad’ was supposed to drop at the tail end of the summer, but a controversial scene dealing with a movie theater shooting called for re-shoots and re-edits in the wake of the Colorado theater massacre, which pushed this promising crime flick to January. You’ve got Ryan Gosling teaming up with Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, and a handful of other fine actors as cops who go off the books to take on a power-hungry Sean Penn, playing the ruthless gangster Mickey Cohen in 1940s LA. Oh, and it’s got Emma Stone. Need I say more?

Here’s 4 new images from Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3′ to whet your super hero appetite

The Iron Patriot looks like a big hunk of metal ‘Merica!
Marvel recently dropped a few stills from the upcoming flick Iron Man 3 (due in theaters May 2013), and while they may not give away much in plot detail, they do look pretty intriguing. This time around Tony Stark/Iron Man faces off against The Mandarin, portrayed by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, and judging by the pics—as well as the trailer—it doesn’t seem as if this installation of the Iron Man franchise will be as lighthearted as its predecessors.
Here are the rest of the stills…

A broken mask could signify the literal and/or figurative end of Iron Man…or Stark took his suit to the wrong dry cleaner.

The lovely Rebecca Hall as scientist Maya Hansen, looking a little worse for wear.

A very serious Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, obviously thinking of new ways in which to sculpt his tremendous facial hair.
Just for kicks, here’s the full trailer…

First Trailer for ‘Iron Man 3′

Fresh off the gargantuan success of ‘The Avengers,’ Marvel is diving headfirst into its “Phase II” — the next batch of superhero flicks building up to 2015′s ‘The Avengers II’ (tentative title) — which begins with next May’s ‘Iron Man 3.’ Today we get the teaser trailer for the film, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Ben Kingsley. Take a look:

Reaction
I had been hearing for weeks that the trailer took on a darker tone, and sure enough, much of the emotionally heavy and dramatic material of the film is laid out for us. Tony Stark might finally be feeling the full weight of being Iron Man, as he alludes to New York (a.k.a the events of ‘The Avengers’) changing everything. With so many new threats bearing down on him (some that come right to his front door, clearly), can he keep both himself and Pepper Potts safe? What if the armor isn’t around when he needs it? Well, about that…
A huge part of ‘Iron Man 3′ will showcase the ‘Extremis’ armor;

New Movies: “The Dictator” Featuring Sasha Baron Cohen

Yay Sascha Baron Cohen is back being a person from an obscure foreign country with a wacky accent and not understanding American culture! I actually do adore anything SBC, dating back to “Da Ali G Show.”
Now Cohen is “The Dictator,” a North African despot named “General Aladeen,” the love child if Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi f*cked.
For your eye candy they have Megan Fox and Anna Faris in the movie. Also in the movie are Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, and B.J. Novak.
