Unreal Estate Tour: Tom Hicks Is Selling His Absurd Dallas Mansion For $135 Million

Perhaps Tom Hicks is best known for being a shrewd businessman who built his incredible wealth and subsequent empire through hard work and determination, as well as the ability to not give a crap about the little people he may have trampled along the way. However, even if Hicks were declared the Greatest Businessman in the History of Money by a panel including God, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, we’d all still remember him as that dude who destroyed the Texas Rangers (and Dallas Stars and Liverpool F.C.).Ironically, as the New York Yankees are rumored to be begging Major League Baseball to void Alex Rodriguez’s massive contract, the man who first gave A-Rod the largest contract in sports history is now trying to sell the most expensive estate and property in the United States. Hicks recently listed his Crespi-Hicks Estate in Dallas on the hush-hush, but when a dude tries to sell his home for a whopping $135 million, people are going to talk about it.It’s not exactly like you can jus...

Armstrong scoop a boost for Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey's interview with Lance Armstrong is more than an illustration of a hero athlete tumbling from the heights. It's also a pivotal moment for a famous media figure trying to climb the ladder back up.

Winfrey's OWN network is showing signs of life after a rocky start, and the Armstrong interview offered a chance for many more viewers to check it out. The former Tour de France cyclist admitted to cheating with performance enhancing drugs throughout his career during the first half of the interview Thursday night. A second part is to air Friday.

The interview ''showcases the No. 1 asset this network has over everybody else - and that's Oprah Winfrey,'' said Erik Logan, co-president of the network with Sheri Solata. It also showcased about everything else; OWN relentlessly advertised its programming on just about every commercial break.

Mike Fiers, 2013 Fantasy Sleeper

If you read this fantasy baseball web-blog when it still looked like a Geocities site, you know all about Mike Fiers. Bee tee dubya, I like the new site design and I think we've addressed all issues with mobile devices. If there's still problems -- besides, can you change the font to Wingdings? -- tell us and we'll look at it. Things are evolving. We have something coming in March that necessitated the site changes. We had simply outgrown the old site. I'll always have a special place in my heart for those wild orange flames that caused every fifteenth viewer to suddenly have a seizure. Maybe we can still get seizures...Together...With this new design. Last year, Fiers burst on the scene. Or rather, Fiers spontaneously combusted on the scene like he was a nine-year-old Drew Barrymore. (I'm referring to her role in Firestarter, not to her lighting up a crackpipe.) In Triple-A, he had a K and walk-rate of 8.02 and 2.95, respectively, then bested both marks in the majors with 9.52

The Suns Lose Power, Phoenix Grows Cold

The Power Forward situation in Phoenix is dreadful. Luis Scola returned to the starting line up, and only managed to play for 13 minutes. Thanks to terrible shooting, he finished the night 4 points to go with a rebound, assist, steal and block. Markieff Morris, meanwhile, had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. That craptastic line was still better than Scola’s, so he may go back to starting games. His 10/5.5 average over the past 2 weeks isn’t going to earn him a Hall of Fame plaque, but the Suns also aren’t contending, so they can do whatever they want at PF. If I had to have one of them, however, I would still go with Scola. Even from the bench, and ignoring last night, he is still producing 12/6.5, which, obviously, is better than M&M. I’d frankly ignore both, but you may not have that option. Good luck to you. Also, shame on me for leading with Scola twice within 7 days. Let’s say I’m leading with Markieff Morris instead. Problem solved. Here’s what else happened in the NBA...

The Crapification Of Adam Sandler

OWS sometimes strays from adorable sports commentary. These off-topic posts can be found in the Free For All section.

I’d call Adam Sandler’s recent box office offers weak, at best. Actually, the worst part is that it isn’t so much a “recent” development. Adam Sandler hasn’t made a quality movie this millennium.
We are talking about 12 or 13 years to be specific. Big Daddy was released in 1999. Here is Sandler’s filmography post-1999…

With the 20th anniversary of the Jeter draft, Baltimore can ponder what might have been

We know from TV that alternative realities exist. Thus, somewhere out there in the multi-verse, beyond the world where Andruw Jones spells his name “Androo,” – there is an earth where the Baltimore Orioles 20 years ago slightly altered their draft strategy. Instead of taking Jeffrey Hammond, they chose a highly touted teenager from Michigan. Let’s go there.Baltimore has done the impossible. It managed to transition from the great, iconic shortstop of Cal Ripken Jr. to his natural successor: Derek Jeter. The Orioles have been a regular power in the American League East, and every kid growing up in America dreams of playing shortstop in Camden Yards. It is the most glory-filled position in sports, akin to what centerfield was to the Yankees around 1975. Now, in the twilight of Jeter’s career, the nation is wondering who will be the next great Baltimore shortstop? Of course, many believe the greatest shortstop remains the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez, freshly celebrating his marriage to Dre...

pittsburgh penguins versus the winnipeg jets: ruminations

The Winnipeg Jets will eternally remind us of the early-mid 1990's when everything was topsy turvy and strange in the world.
We still stand by the fact that the current Winnipeg Jets are a strange trick being played on us by the space-time continuum.
Perhaps we can break this curse by comparing all 12 goals scored in this game to outfits from the wonderful corner of the Internet that is **** YEAH UGLY 90'S CLOTHES.
The first Penguins goal dawned with confidence and brashness, like Drew Barrymore in a leopard print bra. I mean, no one expected Tyler Kennedy to finally make good on one of those sweet setups from Sidney Crosby.

Yeaaaah gurrrrllllllll.
Immediately, Jim Slater and Bryan Little comes back and score some goals, putting the Penguins down, and at least a tiny bit stunned. Not that they showed it in their play at that moment, but run-and-gun and sloppy defense was the name of the game. Little's was on the power play, a 4-minute high stick on Evgeni Mal...

Want to Change Up Your Hair? Better Know Your Face Shape First

Every hairstyle or hair cut that you do should be based on your face shape.
The first step to determining your face shape is to pull all your hair away from your face with a ponytail or a head band. After that, you can determine your shape by drawing on a mirror around the perimeter of your face reflection or by putting a towel around your face and determine the shape that the towel makes.

The main goal when you are creating a hair style is to achieve the most oval looking appearance possible due to the versatility.

There are seven basic face shapes: oval, round, square, triangular, oblong, diamond and heart shaped or inverted triangle.

Continue reading to discover your face shape and the hair style that best suits you....

Trivia Q&A: December 27

When I got to Professor Thom's early Tuesday night, I discovered that the Celtics were playing the Heat on TNT at 8 PM, and I knew that could be the cause of potential trouble on a Trivia Night.Fortunately, the rain and the fact the game was broadcast locally on cable kept the Celtics fans to a lower number, and we were able to get Trivia Night going, at halftime around 9:30 PM.The scores for the first three rounds were rather low, and I feared I might have made this week's Trivia a bit too hard. But the scores rebounded nicely in the General Knowledge round. The team of Old Lang Sign! did well all night, and had the highest score in the IQ Trivia round, and wound up winning with 41 points and by seven points. Another nice job by my favorite group of teachers!Second place went to Sandusky: Great Babysitter or Greatest Babysitter? who had 34 points (and also won Best Team Name), and third place was a tie between Chocolate Breast Milk and Adrian Peterson Didn't Tear His ACL...

Intensity waning during long layoff for BCS

Forty-three days. A month and a half. Longer than summer training camp. Longer than Drew Barrymore and Brittany Spears first marriages. Heck, its two days longer than the first Iraq war.

Thats how long Alabama will have waited between the Iron Bowl and the BCS Championship Game.

For all its many flaws and they are legend the biggest gripe against the BCS is the long, long wait between the end of the regular season and the crowning of a national champion.

It was bad enough in the old days when the season ended the first week of December and bowl games occupied every nanosecond of New Years Day. But at least there was a legitimate reason for that layoff. College kids have finals and families after all.

Now, however, the slow-dripping water torture that is the college bowl schedule extends beyond the halfway mark of the college basketball season, so long that some fans have moved on, and football fatigue has set in.
