Exit Becks: David Beckham retiring at season's end

End it like Beckham.

David Beckham, whose curling free kicks, rugged good looks and celebrity marriage made him one of the most famous athletes in the world, is retiring from football.

Whether striding on the grass, the red carpet or the fashion catwalks, Beckham transcended his sport and became its highest-paid player, with a fortune estimated at $250 million.

The 38-year-old former England captain said Thursday he would quit after his final two games with Paris Saint-Germain, where he won a league title this season.

''It's a good way to go out,'' he said in Paris. ''It's every athlete's dream, every footballer's dream to go out on the top - on top form or winning a trophy ... leaving as a champion.''

Although he never lifted the World Cup, football's ultimate prize, Beckham won enough club honors in his 21-year career to cement his status in the game and went out a winner on both sides of the Atlantic. He also helped popularize the sport in the United

10 Things to Know About David Beckham

Ten things to know about David Beckham, the soccer superstar who announced his retirement Thursday.

---

1. HE'S WON EVERYWHERE HE'S PLAYED ...

Beckham has won at least one league title with every team he's joined for a full season. Manchester United won England's Premier League six times with Beckham, including three straight from 1999-2001. Real Madrid captured its first La Liga title in four years in 2007, Beckham's last season with the Spanish club. He led the Los Angeles Galaxy to back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in January, and last week the club won its first French league title since 1994.

2. ... EXCEPT WHEN HE'S PLAYED FOR ENGLAND

England never advanced beyond the World Cup quarterfinals when Beckham was playing, and many blamed him - and his petulant red card against Argentina - for the country's early elimination in 1998. Beckham made amends four years later, scoring the winning goal against Argentina that secured a spot in the knoc

I don't mean to dwell on other people's misfortune. That's the last thing we need: A blog that dwells on other people's misfortune. But tell me if this is - as The Master would say- a "co-ink-i-dink."The woman that supposedly broke up David Petraeus' marriage is named Paula Broadwell. The woman who supposedly broke up Brian Cashman's marriage is named Louise Meanwell. In "Four Weddings and a Funeral," the woman who breaks up Hugh Grant's life is Andie MacDowell. The announcer who used to call a double-play "two for the price of one" was Ernie Harwell. The author who warned of doublespeak was George Orwell.Well?

KSK Kommenter Draft: Turn Any Car Into a Limousine

We’re going to need an extra gigawatt or so.
Your typical limousine nothing more than a fancied-up and stretched out Ford. It’s a fine means of conveyance for a staid occasion like a wedding, a funeral, or the premier of a Hugh Grant film about both of those things. But a truly memorable evening–say a first date with a complete stranger–calls for something a bit more bold.
Now is your chance to create your dream limo. Do you go the high-end douchey route with a Bentley, or go full-on ironic hipster with a two-tone Geo Metro? All I know is I want that DeLorean.

Tonight we play a Jamie Benn-less Dallas Stars. Personally, I hate almost everyone who has two first names......I said ALMOST everyone.Detroit rolls into Big D tonight after laying the smack down on Buffalo last night. But playing on back-to-back nights with 1,200 miles of travel in between is tough no matter how easy the game was the night before.Detroit has had the upper-hand in the series thus far, taking both games from the Stars by a combined score of 10-6.Don't let the Ricky Bobby picture fool you, resident artiste Josh Howard has something much more grand in store for tonight's movie poster. It would be a "Big mistake" not to make the jump.

"Rubber baby buggy bumpers...ha! I bet you didn't know I was going to say that!"Another work of art, eh? Personally, I give Arnie kudos for making a film that pokes fun at his other films...having a sense of humor about yourself certainly helped save Hugh Grant's career. We need to take care of busi...

Hokies Hoops vs. Boston College

Ugh. Really, guys, really?! You know, we understand that Florida State isn't a bad team, but for Jeebus' sake, WTF. Falling to 0-2 in the ACC is not a good way to start. If we weren't on the bubble before, we're surely there now. What's worse is that our schedule doesn't get THAT much easier over the next couple weeks. Between now and January 25th, we play @BC, UNC, @UVA, and BYU. Any guesses how we finish that stretch? Anyway, onto Boston College. Hit the jump.

Oh no!! We suck again!!!

----------
If you watched our game vs. FSU, then you witnessed one of the ugliest games in NCAA history. In a word: TERRIBLE. Honestly, we could probably recruit a bunch of sixth grades from a YMCA team to play better than our hoops team did. In fact, the Westport YMCA sixth graders fit the bill just nicely. They have size, speed, and a secret weapon (just take a look at AJ Trimboli - the little man on the left in the front row).

We hear Kobe Bryant's cousin is ...

The ten best moments in the Chicago Blackhawks holiday video

Christmas came early for Puck Daddy this year. Not only were we blessed with the excellence of the San Jose Sharks' holiday shopping network video last week, but on Thursday we learned that another NHL team actually had created a holiday video that was better.
If you haven't seen the Chicago Blackhawks' Sing-Along Holiday Album yet, you should. It's a Christmas miracle, teeming with horrible sweaters, green screen, and awful singing from all your favourite Chicago players (and Sean O'Donnell).

Granted, I was kind of hoping this video would suddenly reveal one of the Blackhawks to be a remarkable singer, like that scene in Love Actually where it turns out Hugh Grant's driver has the voice of an opera soloist (why is there no Youtube video of this?), but there's so much awesome here it's hard to complain.
In fact, there's so much awesome that I was able to make a numbered list. Here are the 10 best moments in the Chicago Blackhawks' holiday vid...
