Reliving the suffering of Darcy Regier's reign of terror

I swear, I thought it was over. The end credits for this horror movie we had been watching were about to roll. Grab your jacket and leave the stale popcorn at your theater seats because we were finally going to see the main villain get his. It always happens during the last five minutes of a movie, doesn't it? The mastermind for all the murders and the enabler of getting killers to do his dirty work was finally going to get his.

I thought the monster with nine lives had finally used up his final one. It was time to hug our loved ones after finally putting the 20th bullet in the bogeyman's cranium. There wouldn't be a bogeyman hiding in the closet, waiting to kill some stupid chick who went to get a sandwich after having sex. It was over. We could finally go home and watch the sunrise in astonishment because we were moving forward and surviving.

However, in a plot twist reminiscent of Michael Meyers coming back from the dead after being blown to bits by Jamie Lee ...

Bobby Valentine Has Haunted My Dreams For Long Enough

If a homeless man broke into my house and beat the **** out of my grandmother, I think I’d hate him less than I hate Bobby Valentine.
I stole that line from something I read years ago and just inserted Valentine’s name in to it, but it applies perfectly right now. It’s almost impossible to quantify the hatred that I feel for the man who has claimed to be the Red Sox manager for this past season. Hate is not too strong of a word. If anything, it’s too soft of a word. I feel utter disdain. Disgust even.
I’ll have more coherent thoughts on this once a few days go by, but right now I’m too busy acting out both Mick Jagger and David Bowie’s performances from the dancing in the street music video to try to be overly rational. My neighbors think I either won the lottery, just got engaged or am on some sort of fast-acting hallucinogens. Keep in mind that it’s 2:30 p.m.
Yet, none of those things are true. My high is neither drug-induced nor money-related. It’s strictly “Bobby V got fired” relat

Britain’s Watson Advances to Wimbledon Third Round

Heather Watson photo courtesy of Dunlop
WIMBLEDON – Heather Watson became the first British woman since 2002 to reach the third round of Wimbledon on Tuesday defeating American Jamie Lee Hampton of the United States 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday.
“I was pleased with how I started the match, said the 20-year-old Watson. “I wanted to come on playing well from the first point and not give anything away. That’s what I did.
“I think Jamie started a bit slower, but really picked up her game in the second set. It was a real battle in that second set physically and mentally.”

Watson did not know that she is the first British woman to make the third round in 10 years,
“I was completely unaware,” said Watson. “I don’t really look or think about things like that. I just focus on myself and my next match.
“But as soon as I come off the court, everybody seems to let me know all the previous stats. I’ve been told about five times already,” she said smiling.

After an easy first set, Watson an

Hampton Shines on a day when most Americans fall at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON – Jamie Lee Hampton in her first match at the All England Club upset 27th seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-4, 7-6 (1) on Monday evening.
“I’m kind of liking it right now,” noted Hampton about playing on grass.
The 22-year-old who had to retire from her opening match at the French Open last month because of two herniated discs was worried that her injury would return.
“In the back of my mind I’m sure I was worried about whether my back was going to hold up or not, Hampton said It’s a little stiff but it’s all right. It sounds worse than it is.”
On a day when seven Americans lost including Venus Williams, John Isner, Melanie Oudin, Donald Young, James Blake and Vania King, the young woman ranked 100th in the world was one of only five Americans to be victorious on Wimbledon’s opening day. The other winning US players -Sloane Stephens, Ryan Harrison, Michael Russell and Ryan Sweeting.

As for her match against Hantuchova , “I’m just trying to play my game, dictate, push

Things That Pissed Me Off Last Week In The World Of Sports

Last week, I decided to abandon "Things That Pissed Me Off" and write a list of reasons why Bobby Valentine makes my life miserable. I needed an outlet, and this seemed like the best way to get my points across.

But I apologize, because that's not what this column is about. It's about me venting on different topics, not just the moron I have to watch patrol the Red Sox dugout every day. Could I continue to write this column every single week about Bobby Valentine? Do bears **** in the woods?

I wouldn't even have to try hard. He literally does things every single day of the week that make me angry. Hell, just seeing him wearing a jersey that says "Boston" on it makes me want to rub acid in my eyes. When he tipped his cap at the booing Fenway Park crowd on Saturday, I thought about taking a road trip to his restaurant and burning it down.

It's just that no matter the situation, Valentine always has to make himself the story. That&#...

I'm not exactly certain why, but I'm going to live blog this game. I'm a bit nervous because I fully expect that three-eighths of my body will be covered in vomit by the end of this and let's face it I'm not 28 anymore so that's not cool, but I'm going to do it anyway. I had a work sponsored happy hour earlier and am now armed with five Coors Light silos and a giant vat of Mrs. W's delicious vinegar dill cucumbers so I'm feeling confident. Confident I'll be done with this post in less than an hour, but I'm now committed so let's see I guess.

SOPA Sponsor Has a Copyright Violation of His Own

The controversial SOPA bill is designed to combat online piracy and copyright violations. But now it turns out the bill’s author and main sponsor, Texas Rep. Lamar Smith, has some copyright problems of his own.
Vice’s Jamie Lee Curtis Taete did some investigative research into whether Smith’s own campaign site was copyright Kosher. The photographic agency which produced the images used on Smith’s current site told Taete it was “very difficult” for them to check if Smith has the rights to use those photos.
So Taete did some more digging, looking at older archived versions of Smith’s campaign website. One former version of the representative’s site used a picture of an idyllic backwoods scene which Taete traced to a photographer named DJ Schulte:

DJ Schulte said the photo was listed under Creative Commons and anyone could use it — provided they gave him due credit. But, according to Schulte, the Smith’s campaign made no effort to do so anywhere on his site.
“I do not see anywhere ...

Two Supposedly Fun Things I'll Never Do Again: Go to Disney and Read Infinite Jest

Worlds nearly collided in Orlando this week, or G:TB worlds, but unfortunately busy schedules and exhaustion intervened. This was for the best though, because now G:TB readers will get two completely separate and insular posts on The G:TB Disney Experience.

Whose view will you choose? Dave's view? Or Rob's view? Which perspective will fit your character? (And by character, I mean your personality, not one of those idiots dressed in a Goofy costume). I will warn you that this may have more to do with you and your own failings, and less to do with the empirical truth about Disney.

Ron and I also nearly met up with native Floridian Mark, but his wife had to solve a crime. I think his perspective on the area might be closer to mine than Rob's, because he called Celebration (The Disney designed town and town center) "pre-planned and weird." And his advice about the Nike outlet was spot-on . . . we all ended up buying cheap, ultra-fancy, very ugly new sneakers.
