Leafs Need A Win On Home Ice

from Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun,

The Maple Leafs’ mission in these playoffs is to boldly go where no Leafs team has gone before ... or at least not for the last nine years.

And, yes, with apologizes to William Shatner.

You would think heading into Game 6 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Boston Bruins, the Leafs would be brimming with confidence over the prospect of playing back at the Air Canada Centre.

But so far in this series, for whatever reason, home ice has been, well, a disadvantage.

Of the five games played in this series, four have been won by the visiting team — the past four. For their part, the Leafs have yet to win at home, losing both at the ACC and winning two in Boston.

Defensive breakdowns cost Wild in 6-1 rout by the Sharks

One of the best Science Fiction in the last 40 years was the 1982 film Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan. In the movie Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the crew of the USS Enterprise face off against an old nemesis they found on the planet Seti Alpha V, Khan Singh (Ricardo Montalban) a ruthlessly ambitious and genetically modified (for superior intelligence and strength) person from the late 20th Century the they had found frozen and drifting through space. Years before the USS Enterprise had freed Khan and his followers of their prison in space and they attempted to try to take over the ship. Fearing further attempts by Khan to take over the ship they exiled him and his followers to the planet. Conditions on the planet worsened it was Khan's intelligence that allowed him and his followers to survive but the conditions were miserable. Needless to say Khan was more than a little bitter when the two would meet again as he had managed to take over another starship, th...

William Shatner Is New Boston Red Sox Umpire

William Shatner is always up for a challenge. Now the famous Stark Trek captain will portray a home plate umpire for the Boston Red Sox in a baseball–inspired video for singer Brian Evans. ”It’s my fantasy, my field of dreams,” Evans, 42, said in a press release of the campy video for the song, “At Fenway,” produced by Narada Michael Walden. “Shatner as the home plate umpire is as iconic as the ballpark itself.”Agreed.
Oh. My. God. This is the greatest collection of wrestling impersonations since, uh, ever. The only rival is William Shatner singing WWE themes.

Seriously, 2-year-old Nikoh does the cutest impersonations of John Cena, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane and more. And he sings Living Colour's "Cult of Personality." Done. I'm done.

William Shatner, known to more than a few people as Captain James T. Kirk, sent a tweet to Commander Chris Hadfield aboard the International Space Station.
Not only did Commander Hadfield respond, but he couldn’t have crafted a better reply. Simply Amazing. This pretty much wins the internet.
Now maybe Commander Hadfield will get a few more tweets sent to him.

William Shatner will throw out first pitch at L.A.’s inaugural “Star Trek Night at Dodger Stadium”

This coming Friday August 3, the Los Angeles Dodgers are holding their first ever Star Trek Night at Dodger Stadium. First off there be a giveaway of some really boss, limited edition Star Trek themed Dodgers t-shirts, that, when worn in the right circles, will make you cooler than an Andorian porn star. But the highlight of the night will be the appearance of Capt. James T. Kirk himself, Sir William Shatner, arguably the finest actor of any generation, who will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
No word on whether or not The Shat will be entertaining the crowd with his rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, or better yet, Elton John’s Rocket Man. I think that would be too much for even the most die hard “Trekkers” in attendance that night, what with their pointy Spock ears, replica Starfleet uniforms, and complete lack of social skills.

– A press release was sent out today revealing that Bret Hart is currently in second place behind Phil Hartman to be added to Canada’s Walk of Fame. It also notes that Hart has received support from William Shatner and the March of Dimes organization. Hart had the following comments on the campaign… “For the people of Canada to have spoken up for me like this, it’s such a huge sign of respect and appreciation, that I can’t tell you how much it means to me.
Video: Ref goes down after being hit in head

Hello innocuous headline!
Judging by the picture of assistant referee Frederick Geldhof lying on the pitch in obvious pain after being hit in the head while officiating a Belgian Jupiler League match last Saturday between Lierse and Zulte Waregem, you’d think he was hit by a rock, beer can, or some other projectile designed to do some damage. The video is even more dramatic, with the Belgian referee stumbling 6-7 steps before dropping to the ground, until a player rushes to his aid.
A shocking, tense, frightening moment to say the least…until you find out what exactly Geldhof was hit in the side of the head with. Then you start to wonder if Geldhof got an A+ in his high school drama class for his emoting. He looked like a young William Shatner out there.

Cardboard? Cardboard. Wet cardboard, but cardboard nonetheless. Wet or dry, being hit in the head by a piece of thickened paper didn’t warrant the reaction that Geldhof displayed. Wesley Sonck’s reaction a...

Priceline killing off Shatner in SB ad

It has come time for Priceline.com to kill off actor William Shatner, plunging him to his apparent death in their latest TV spot which will run during the Superbowl. Shatner has been the iconic man for Priceline in their commercials for 14 years. Please no Star Trek jokes… The Associated Press has stated that Shatner will be perched on a bus that is about to fall over a bridge. He will, apparently, rescue the passengers. However, he and the bus will plummet into the vast beyond, after a momentous explosion. The last words of the Priceline Negotiator will reportedly be: “Save yourselves–some money.” The company told the AP it was considering running this spot during the Super Bowl, which sounds like a disturbing prospect. Cnet doesn’t think it is a good idea, “While most children may have no idea who he is, why risk the tears and tantrums of grown-ups who had to see Captain Kirk die in 1994? Why make them relive an event that some of them still discuss with their psychologists, lover...

Priceline to Drop William Shatner From Ads After 14 Years

William Shatner‘s 14-year mission with Priceline has come to a close.
The actor, best known as Capt. James T. Kirk, the commander of Star Trek, will go out with a bang. His final ad with the company, set to air Monday, will show Shatner rescuing vacationers on a bus hanging on a bridge’s railing. “Save yourselves — some money,” Shatner says, handing his cellphone to one of the passengers. Then Shatner and the bus fall and the bus explodes.
“I’m in grief mode,” Shatner told The Associated Press. “It’s not the first time I’ve had an iconic character die off.” (The Kirk character died in 1994′s Star Trek: Generations.)
In the report, Priceline CEO Christopher Soder explained that the company is changing its strategy so it “decided to do something really over the top to get our message across.” That may include a spot in next month’s Super Bowl telecast.
Shatner became a spokesman for Priceline during the dot-com boom and originally did the ads to get free stock in the company
