Lahm controlled the ball with his chest and then dribbled toward the middle before sending a long-distance shot into the top corner off the fingertips of Greece goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis in the 39th minute. Before the goal, Germany dominated every facet of the game. Germany striker Miroslav Klose nearly opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
