Lemaitre wins at wet London GP ahead of Olympics

Christophe Lemaitre shrugged off damp and dismal conditions to win the 200 meters at the London Grand Prix on Saturday, while Blessing Okagbare upstaged the Olympic and world champions in the women's 100.

Lemaitre of France won at the Crystal Palace Diamond League meet in a personal best for the season of 19.91 seconds, ahead of Dutchman Churandy Martina and Marvin Anderson of Jamaica.

Only Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake have gone faster than Lemaitre this season, ahead of the July 27-Aug. 12 Olympics.

''I knew I could run under 20 seconds but to do that here is very good, two weeks before the Olympic Games,'' Lemaitre said. ''Now I'm very confident over this distance. For the Olympic Games, I want to go even faster, because with Bolt, Blake and the other sprinters I think that I must beat my personal best if I want to win a medal.''

In the 100, Okagbare of Nigeria won in 11.01 seconds, leaving world champion Carmelita Jeter trailing in second, and Olympic cha

Tamgho out of London Olympics

Triple jump indoor world-record holder Teddy Tamgho of France says he will miss the London Olympics because of an ankle injury.

Tamgho said Monday that he did not want to jeopardize his career after undergoing surgery last week for a bone outgrowth on his right ankle.

He missed last year's world championships in Daegu, South Korea, because of injury.

Tamgho was one the main contenders for gold in triple jump along with Phillips Idowu of Britain. The Frenchman won the world indoor title two years ago.

STELLA MCCARTNEY UNVEILS TEAM GB OLYMPIC UNIFORM DESIGNS

Fashion is an integral part of the Olympic Games and several high-end designers are in the business of creating Olympic styles. In just four months, Team USA athletes will go for gold wearing ensembles from Ralph Lauren, while Italian competitors will sport Giorgio Armani attire. British fashion designer, Stella McCartney, was awarded the honor of dressing this year’s “home team.” McCartney has unveiled the much anticipated Team GB kits for the Olympic Games in London.
The new gear, which will be seen on more than 500 Olympic and 350 Paralympic athletes, debuted today at the Tower of London. Olympic hopefuls including track and field athlete, Jessica Ennis, and triple jumper, Phillips Idowu, modeled the new outfits. McCartney and adidas have been working to develop the designs for more than two years. As with their collaborative sportswear range, both function and fashion were considered when creating the uniforms.

McCartney unveils UK Olympic designs

How many ways can you stretch Britain's red, white and blue Union Jack over finely toned Olympic athletes?

Ask Stella McCartney.

The famed designer unveiled her ideas for Britain's Olympians on Thursday with uniforms that made imaginative use of the familiar flag. The designs, a closely guarded secret for months, were shown at the Tower of London in a gala event that combined fashion's razzle-dazzle with the star quality of top Olympic competitors.

Out with rail-thin fashion models, in with real Olympic stars.

McCartney, who is serving as adidas' creative director for the Summer Games, said she hoped both competitors and the British public like the uniforms and are proud of the athletes who will wear them at the Olympics and the Paralympics.

''The basic message is to unify the team,'' McCartney told The Associated Press backstage after the show. ''The athletes all want to feel like one team. The other big starting point for me was the Union flag, an iconic flag, I
