Get this: Chiefs look to blitz the defense

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Of the 53 less-than-glowing adjectives one could use to describe the Kansas City Chiefs' passing game under The Pioli Dynasty that's how many synonyms Thesaurus.com churns out when you type in the word "feeble" FAST is not among them.

Impotent, yes. Egregious, yes. Fast, no.

In fact, according to TeamRankings.com, the Chiefs ranked 16th in the NFL, right smack dab in the middle, in terms of offensive plays per game in 2012; they checked in at 13th in 2011. Point of comparison: New England and Detroit ranked 1-2 in '12; New Orleans and the Patriots topped the charts the year before that. (As a general rule, the more confident and efficient your respective trigger man is under center, the more plays you tend to run.)

That brings us neatly around to the present and, more specifically, new Chiefs coach Andy Reid. In Philadelphia, Reid's Eagles ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, in terms of plays per game, over the past two autumns. Considering that one of tho

Daniel signing creates dilemma for KU fans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Former Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel knows that by signing with the Chiefs, he's created somewhat of a dilemma for some Chiefs fans.

As in those Chiefs fans who also happen to be Kansas Jayhawkers.

"They might have a tough time accepting this," Daniel said. "But hey, I might end up living in Kansas. But they have to realize the facilities and the stadium are on the Missouri side.

"I'm sure it's a tough deal for them but at the end of the day, they're Chiefs fans through and through. That's what I would think."

Daniel, who signed with the Chiefs last week after spending four years in New Orleans, already has heard from some Jayhawks-Chiefs fans, and he reports the comments on his Twitter account have been positive.

"Actually, it has been an amazing amount of support," Daniel said. "When I signed with the Chiefs, I got about 1,500 messages on Twitter. There's a lot of stuff on there. That was nice. I'm going to check

Report: Chiefs Reach An Agreement With QB Chase Daniel

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs have reached an agreement in principle with former Saints QB Chase Daniel.
Daniel will reportedly receive a three-year deal.
There was a lot of buzz surrounding Daniel in the past two weeks with the Browns and Buccaneers rumored to have interest. Some even speculated that he could a team that might be willing to give him a shot at competing for the starting quarterback job, which is obviously not the case in KC now that they’ve traded for Alex Smith.

Chiefs reportedly interested in Chase Daniel

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Saints back up quarterback Chase Daniel is expected to sign a free agent contract that will pay him about $3 million per year and one team that’s really interested is the Kansas City Chiefs.
After sitting behind Drew Brees for the past few years, It looks like the Chiefs believe Daniel has a shot at being either a viable back up for them, or a future starter, if things don’t work out with Alex Smith.

Latest Saints offseason setback: backup QB Daniel injured

Now starting at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints ... Sean Canfield? It was only minicamp, but that was the reality for the Saints Wednesday. With Drew Brees away until his contract situation is resolved and backup Chase Daniel watching with his right hand bandaged because of a hairline fracture of his throwing-hand thumb, the Saints' offense looked nothing like the precision machine that scored 547 points with Brees at the helm last season. A disjointed offense, also without running back Darren Sproles because of an approved absence, sputtered through interceptions, incompletions and the rust that comes with having Canfield, a seventh-round pick in 2010, and newly acquired veteran Luke McCown learning the Brees' mastered offense as they go. That might be a familiar scene for the Saints. Interim coach Joe Vitt said Wednesday he doesn't expect Daniel to throw for 2 1/2 weeks. Brees' contract might not be resolved soon. The deadline for the Saints' exc...

Chase Daniel enjoys thrill in Brees' absence

Sooner or later, the Drew Brees-New Orleans Saints contract impasse will end.

The most likely outcome is a lavish deal that keeps the star quarterback in the fold for years to come. But while both camps can then claim victory for negotiating the terms most favorable to their respective sides, there will be no debate about who was the biggest winner from this lengthy haggling.

Chase Daniel.

With an unsigned Brees not attending the team's offseason program, his understudy has the luxury of playing with the Saints' first-team offense. Such work is welcomed considering Brees usually gets most if not all of the starting snaps. In three NFL seasons with New Orleans, Daniel has attempted just eight regular-season passes, exclusively in mop-up duty.

"I feel comfortable stepping into the role I'm in," Daniel recently told me and co-host Gil Brandt on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "I really have been bonding with the first-team receivers and the line.

Chase Daniel Reportedly Started a Fight During Saints Practice

According to the Missourian, several players got into a little scuffle during a New Orleans Saints practice. It was started by backup quarterback Chase Daniel.According to the report, Daniel threw an interception to cornerback Mike Jenkins during an 11-on-11 non-contact drill. Immediately following the play, linebacker Curtis Lofton bumped into Daniels. After the play, Daniel threw the ball at Lofton's feet in disgust, which sparked a scuffle between him and Lofton as the two began jabbing words at each other. Howevever, guard Jahari Evans came to the rescue to split the two apart. After that, nearly all the players came on the field and started shoving, but it then finally stopped."It wasn't necessarily in frustration," Daniel told the Missourian. "I was just mad that he literally just ran into me. But we cleared it up. We're good. ... It was hot, we were in the middle of practice, emotions flying everywhere and that's what happened."Some players made the event positive a

Daniel eager to work with Saints' starting offense

Chase Daniel is eager to see how he'll handle first-team snaps in practice after spending the past three seasons as Drew Brees' understudy.

With Brees holding out for a contract extension, the Saints plan to have Daniel work with the starting offense if Brees is still not signed when offseason practices open next Tuesday.

Daniel, a former Heisman Trophy finalist at Missouri, has been with the Saints since 2009. However, he has thrown only eight passes in regular season games, completing six for 45 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Receiver Lance Moore says he can tell that Daniel has learned a lot from watching the way Brees leads the team. Moore says Daniel has the ability to command teammates' attention despite his lack of game experience.

Saints re-sign backup QB Daniel

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with backup quarterback and place holder Chase Daniel.

Daniel, a former Heisman trophy finalist with Missouri, has been with the Saints since 2009 and has been Drew Brees' backup since 2010.

During the past two seasons, the 6-foot Daniel has appeared in 29 games, mostly as a holder. He also has completed six of eight passes for 45 yards.

He relieved of Brees in three regular season games last season, completing four of five passes for 29 yards, including one completion on a fake field goal attempt.
