Giants WR Hakeem Nicks Taking It "Easy" But Not "Slow" With Comeback This Time

The left knee that hampered him late last season is fully healed, and the right foot injury he suffered last preseason is a distant memory. But that doesn’t mean that Hakeem Nicks was working hard when he hit the practice field last week for the Giants’ first week of voluntary workouts.

No, after years of little injuries and rushed recoveries, the Giants No. 1 wideout said he is handling his return from last season’s maladies differently. He hasn’t run a complicated route that requires cutting yet, he says, and he may not do that for awhile.

“Just from past experience, I am being cautious,” he said before heading to a Manhattan Sports Authority to promote the NFL and New Era’s Back to Football Photo Day Contest. “I’m not taking it slow, but I’m taking it easy.”

It was reported earlier this offseason that the New York Giants plan on extending Hakeem Nicks’ contract. The media caught up with Nicks and asked him about the progress of his contract talks with the Giants.“I don’t really negotiate my contract in the media,” said Nicks, per the New York Daily News. “Let my agent do that. I just play football.”Just like Cruz, I believe Nicks will get an extension from the Giants at some point. His current contract runs out after this season. Need NFL Tickets?
Hakeem Nicks’ knee is holding up fine so far

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks says he didn’t suffer any setbacks with his knee while he was working out with Eli Manning at Duke last week.
“We got some good work in,” Nicks said, via Giants.com. “It was good for me to just get my feet back up under me a little bit and it was my first time running routes with Eli. So it was good. I feel good; there weren’t any setbacks.”
Nicks says he’s been running full-speed for “a couple of weeks,” and said he made sure he didn’t overwork himself last week.
“I kept it simple because it was my first time running routes,” Nicks said. “I wasn’t about to go out there and – it’s still early right now. So my biggest thing is that I want my presence to be felt there with Eli. Because it is something that I do week-to-week. We’re on the same page.”

New York Giants Off Season Rumors: Why Restructured Deals to Sign Cruz Could Spell the End for Nicks

Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are both due big money very soon. This Photo is courtesy of the NY Daily News

In the past few days, several New York Giants players have publicly stated that they not only wanted Victor Cruz signed long-term, but they would take a pay cut to see it happen. Among them is team leader and Pro Bowl QB Eli Manning. He is on record as saying he wants Cruz back and would be open to restructuring his contract to make that happen.

With all the show of unity and support for Cruz, it makes one wonder about the contract status of Hakeem Nicks. The Giants have said they want both receivers around for a long time, yet, they have only discussed Cruz publicly in the last few weeks.

While it is a long off season, and there were reports during Super Bowl week that they were making Nicks a priority, they have been unusually quiet since. What could have changed in the course of a month and a half?

All the talk of Cruz recently has l...

During today’s press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told the media that wide receiver Hakeem Nicks recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
My guess is that Nicks will be healthy enough to participate in OTA’s and mini camp in a couple of months.

A Healthy Nicks Common Cure to Put Eli, Giants Back on Top

Players, coaches, pundits, experts, fans and others are all trying to figure out why their teams didn’t make the players. The answer of course is obvious… they didn’t have enough victories. For some teams, they didn’t have the right coach or their talent just isn’t good enough to compete. This was not the case for the defending Super Bowl Champion Giants. They had the coaching, the offense, the defense and the special teams to win and compete for a second straight Lombardi Trophy, but they didn’t get it done.

I’ve been reading others try to nitpick and find the cause of the Giants’ failure, and I think some make some good points. My personal opinion is that the season was lost in the fourth quarter of Week 2, when Hakeem Nicks injured his knee. After a loss to the Cowboys opening night and a terrible first half against the Buccaneers, Eli Manning and company did what they do best and responded with a comeba

Hakeem Nicks refuses to answer negative questions in interview

I don’t know if Hakeem Nicks had a nickname before, but he certainly has one now. After the interview he gave Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, I’m calling him Harmony Hakeem.
The New York Giants receiver conducted a Q&A with Traina over email where he essentially refused to answer any negative questions. The whole thing started off on a strange note when Nicks identified Denzel Washington as his celebrity crush. When he was asked some negative questions, he pretty much refused to go along.
Here were some of his decidedly positive responses:
SI.com: Celebrity whose popularity annoys you?
Nicks: Nobody — to each their own.
SI.com: Song you hate the most?
Nicks: I’m not a hater. So the song I like the most is “Guap” by Big Sean.
SI.com: Biggest Twitter pet peeve?
Nicks: None.
SI.com: Worst thing a fan has ever said to you?
Nicks: The best thing a fan has said to me is “that I inspire them to be better people.”
The whole thing is so bizarre you really just have to read it yourse...

Hakeem Nicks: Stats are for girls

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has been battling knee and foot injuries all season long, and as a result he has not been able to provide much for Eli Manning and his team’s offense. The Giants have struggled on offense as of late, and one of the reasons has been Nicks’ inability to separate from defenders as he seems to always be either out or limited in practice while trying to keep the swelling in his knee at bay. The fourth-year receiver has played in six games this season and has only 27 catches for 390 yards and a touchdown. But Nicks doesn’t want to hear anything about his stat line. “Stats is for girls. It’s football, man,” he said Wednesday according to The Star-Ledger. “The season is going to be up and down. It’s about how you ride the wave and if you let it affect you. I know I’m a great football player, and we’re ready to make this run after the bye week.” A team spokesman later clarified that Nicks was referring to a team slogan his high school coach used to ...

Hakeem Nicks ready to produce for Giants

The Giants have played their last three games without wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, a streak which might have a chance at coming to an end with the news that Nicks has returned to practice.Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Nicks took part in individual drills during the portion of practice open to the media. It’s the first time that Nicks has been at practice since the week before the Week Four game with the Eagles, when he practiced on Thursday and then was ruled out of the game because of a knee injury he suffered during the Week Two win over the Buccaneers.… Read more

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has missed most of the pre-season with a broken foot, but says that the foot is not slowing him down and that he plans to be on the field Wednesday against the Cowboys.
“I have no setbacks, I’m expecting to play the whole game,” Nicks told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. “It’s a situation where you just gotta get used to playing with it. It’s not going to feel great, I know that, but it’s a matter of me having the desire and want-to get through it.”
Nicks, who had 76 catches for 1,192 yards last season, says he doesn’t see any reason he’d be any less productive this season.
“I think I just gotta deal with the pain, I don’t think I’ll adjust my game any,” he said. “Whatever the scenario is, I’m just going to go out there and play hard. When I’m playing, it’s out of sight
