Buccaneers Sign OT Demar Dotson To A Three-Year Extension

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers locked up their starting right offensive tackle on Thursday, signing Demar Dotson to a new four-year contract.

Dotson, who had one year remaining on a two-year pact he signed as a restricted free agent last March, started the final 15 games on a Tampa front line that tied for the third-fewest sacks allowed in the NFL in 2012.

Originally signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted college free agent in 2009, Dotson has started 17 of his 38 career games played during his four NFL seasons.

Earlier reports of the Buccaneers signing offensive tackle Demar Dotson have now been confirmed by the team as they officially announce the deal. The contract is set for four years.
The following is from the team’s press release:
Dotson played in all 16 games last season, starting the final 15 games at right tackle.
First quarter review: Tampa Bay Buccaneers improving despite losing record

You may not be able to tell just from looking at their 1-3 record, but this Tampa Bay Buccaneers team is improving.	They are not the same team that got blown out nearly every week last season during their 10-game losing streak.	These Bucs have more fight in them, and that has allowed them to stay in every game. They are essentially just a few plays away from being a perfect 4-0.	Right now, things don't look to good for the Bucs to the casual fan. However, there is more to this team than their below .500 record and fans should be excited for the final 12-game stretch that lies ahead.	But lets take a look at how the Bucs have performed during the first quarter of the season.	Offense:	While he certainly isn't playing at the level he was at during his breakout 2010 season, quarterback Josh Freeman is performing much better than he did last year. The turnovers are down, the big plays are up, and Freeman's confidence seems to be on the rise. That bodes well for Tampa Bay movin...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Changes coming at the running back position?

Rookie head coach Greg Schiano wanted to implement a run-first oriented offense as soon as he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His desire to establish the running game was evident as soon as the Buccaneers moved back into the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and selected RB Doug Martin. But, could changes be on the way for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running game after the team’s bye week?
Schiano has had high praise for Martin, comparing him to Ray Rice on several occasions this offseason. Martin looked good this preseason, but he’s struggled in the regular season and it’s obvious that Schiano is trying to light a fire under Martin in order to get his productivity where he believes it should be.
One thing hindering the Buccaneers and Martin, was the loss of Pro Bowl OG Davin Joseph. Once Joseph went down the offensive line has been a work in progress. OT Demar Dotson has also replaced veteran OT Jeremy Trueblood on the right side.In order to help with the running game, the Buccaneers...

Buccaneers bench Jeremy Trueblood

Jeremy Trueblood was one of the worst starting tackles in the league in 2010, surrendering 2 sacks, 6 quarterback hits, and 24 quarterback hurries, while committing 4 penalties in 8 starts. He was benched down the stretch for James Lee, but resigned for starter’s money as a free agent in the 2011 offseason, signing a 2 year, 10 million dollar deal. Trueblood was even worse in 2011, starting 15 games, allowing 4 sacks, 5 quarterback hits, and 50 quarterback hurries (most in the league), while committing 7 penalties. This past offseason, he was forced to take a pay cut to stay on the roster, to 4.25 million from 5.25 million, but he was still being paid like a starter.
He started the opener and surrendered a quarterback hit and 2 quarterback hurries and then missed last week with an ankle problem. Now it appears he will continue to not start as he’s been benched permanently for Demar Dotson, who started in his absence last week. Dotson allowed just 1 quarterback hurry in that start, b...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers bench Right Tackle Jeremy Trueblood

Last week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to insert Demar Dotson into the starting lineup at right tackle in place of the Jeremy Trueblood, who was nursing an ankle injury.

Either Dotson played extremely well in the eyes of his coaches or Trueblood is still too injuried to play, because the Bucs announced to today on their new blog that the change at right tackle appears to be permanent, at least for now.

That's right, Trueblood has been benched and Dotson is the Bucs' new starting right tackle.

This news is not really surprising to Buccaneers101.com. On the eve of training camp, the Bucs approached Trueblood and told him to take a $1 million pay cut or be cut.

That and the fact that he was just leapfrogged over by Dotson doesn't bode well for Trueblood, who will be a free agent after this season.

Trueblood is a former second-round pick and has started 83 games for the Bucs since joining the team in 2006.

Buccaneers OT Jeremy Trueblood Among Week 2's Inactives

The Buccaneers have decided not to take any chances with right tackle Jeremy Trueblood’s sore left ankle.
With Trueblood nursing an ankle sprain he suffered early last week the Bucs have opted to start Demar Dotson at right tackle for today’s game against the Giants and have scratched Trueblood from the lineup.
Also scratched from the lineup for the Bucs today are cornerbacks Anthony Gaitor (hamstring) and E.J. Biggers (foot), running back/kick returner Michael Smith, linebacker Najee Goode, offensive lineman Derek Hardman and defensive end George Johnson.
Dotson has played in 23 games during his Bucs career, starting two games, both at right tackle. He spent the preseason filling in for left tackle Donald Penn, who missed most of training camp with a calf injury. Source: Tampa Tribune Attached Thumbnails

Bucs gameday: Keys to the game against the Giants

Bennett brothers, Martellus and Michael, will face off Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants are three years removed from their last matchup. Many players have come and gone for both teams but one name remains, Eli Manning. But Manning isn’t the only one that the Bucs will need to worry about on Sunday.
Protect Josh Freeman.
The Giants’ Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Osi Umenyiora make up one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. During their week one matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, New York managed to record just one sack but hurried quarterback Tony Romo quite a few times throughout the game. The Bucs currently have tackle Jeremy Trueblood and guard Carl Nicks listed on the injury report with Trueblood missing the game, meaning fourth year lineman Demar Dotson will be taking over at right tackle. Dotson will have the responsibility to keep those talented defensive ends out of Josh Freeman’s face from the right side.
Run plays around that Giants pass rush...

Buccaneers’ Donald Penn out for a few weeks with a calf strain

Buccaneers’ left tackle Donald Penn has a calf strain and will miss “several weeks” of Training Camp, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Donald Penn is not an elite left tackle, but he’s a solid one and the Buccaneers can’t afford to be without him once games start for real. Right tackle Jeremy Trueblood led the league in pressures allowed in the regular season last year and he would be even more lost if he had to move to the left side. Meanwhile, top backups Jamon Meredith and Demar Dotson are inexperienced. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear as if he’ll miss any real games.

Buccaneers OT Demar Dotson Signs His One-Year, $1.26M Tender Offer

According to Howard Balzer of St. Louis-based 101 ESPN, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Demar Dotson has signed his restricted free agent tender worth $1.26 million, keeping him with the Buccaneers through the 2012 season. Dotson is a former college basketball player who has been with the Bucs for the past three seasons as they've tried to turn him into an actual football player. Dotson got significant playing time as a sixth offensive lineman in lieu of a quality blocking tight end on the roster last season, and he looked capable in that role. Dotson has all the physical attributes to be a good offensive tackle, but he's still very raw and struggles with balance and strength, especially in the run game. Still, when given the chance, Dotson has shown to be a better pass blocker than Jeremy Trueblood on the right side. Source: SBNation.com Attached Thumbnails

Buccaneers Tender Offers To RB LeGarrette Blount, Two Others

The Buccaneers have sent tenders to their two exclusive-rights free agents -- running back LeGarrette Blount and receiver Preston Parker. Each of those tenders is worth $540,000. Blount, one of the league's breakout rookie performers in 2010, regressed in 2011 as his yards per carry dipped by 0.8 and he failed to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark despite appearing in more games. The Bucs also placed the right-of-first-refusal tender on offensive lineman DeMar Dotson, a source said. That tender is expected to be about $1.26 million.
