"Midnight" to accompany Rusty Wallace in the NASCAR Hall of Fame

Every good hero has his trusty steed. The Lone Ranger had Silver, Roy Rogers had Trigger and 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Rusty Wallace had Midnight.

Thus, it is fitting that Midnight--one of the most famous cars in NASCAR history--will be featured in Wallace's exhibit at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, beginning Saturday, February 9th.

Midnight (PSC-009), the ninth stock car assembled by Penske Racing South, made its debut in the September 12, 1992 Miller Genuine Draft 400 at Richmond, with Wallace at its helm. The Missouri native started the event from the third position and dominated the night, leading 231 laps on his way to victory.

Throughout his storied career, Wallace had a tradition of naming each of his cars that had won a race. Thus, when the Missouri native drove into Richmond's victory lane around the midnight hour, his veteran PR representative, Tom Roberts, suggested naming the car "Midnight." It was then that a legend was born.

Midnight became ...

Fast Food Power Rankings: Who Has the Best Fast Food?

via Noah G. at www.totalfattymove.com
Noah ranks the top 25 fast food restaurants, starting with number 25…
25. Miami Subs – you have never eaten here . . . I know that, because if you have you would be in coma or 6 feet under. In terms food quality, taste, appearance, ambiance, etc. hobos in New York City eat better.
24. Roy Rogers – this once proud franchise is now a smoldering mess that lives in NJ Turnpike rest stops. The only good thing about eating here is that they still serve their french fries out of a paper gun holster . . . just like the real Roy Rogers used to eat his fries.
23. Long John Silver’s –deep-fried browness, I think I figured out LJS’s sales strategy: deep fry the hell out of everything on the menu and serve with tartar sauce to differentiate the product. They could be serving deep-fried play-doh for all we know, but they are super cheap . . .
22. Arby’s – is it possible to feel sick before you eat somewhere? The Arby’s trademark roast beef sandwich ranks amon...

The last time Michigan traveled to Lincoln, Neb., Ronald Reagan and Roy Rogers were just a few months old, the Mexican Revolution was kicking into gear, only eight percent of homes had a telephone, and the average U.S. salary was between $200 and $400 per year.
The year was 1911 and football was just starting to take hold in the west. Then-Michigan head coach, Fielding Yost, had been Nebraska’s coach in 1898 and beat his former team 31-0 in Ann Arbor in 1905. The 1911 Michigan squad took a train out west to Lincoln and received a warm welcome from Nebraska fans. The teams played to a 6-6 tie and the entire Michigan contingent – players, coaches, alumni, and students – were “treated royally” at the postgame banquet. Despite the tie, the fact that the big boys from the east took a trip out west put the ‘Huskers on the college football map.

Yankeetorial: The Traveling Wilkes Barres, survivors of Taco Hell, are true Yankee heroes

Here's a suggestion for the Hollywood Redsock Vengeance Squad otherwise known as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon: Instead of exuming the rotted bones of Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, make your inevitable bad baseball movie about the greatest team that will ever be forgotten: The Empire State Yankees of 2012, the ultimate road warriors in the highly chlorinated motel swimming pool netherworld of Triple A.Last night, they clinched the International League's Whachamacallit Division, meaning they'll play an extra set of games in September, chasing the famous Somethingorother Cup, instead of putting this season in hell out of its misery. For several players, it means delaying a call-up to New York, which is why they played the season. They survived an entire year on the road, from Hampton to Treadway to Ramada, from Sbarro to Wendy's to Roy Rogers, from Thruway rest stop to Thruway rest stop to Thruway rest stop. Every night, even when "Scranton" was designated &qu...

One year ago today, Julian Jones was murdered in Atlanta. The 23-year-old mother was outside her home talking to her neighbors when shots were fired from a passing vehicle. She was struck in the leg and later died during surgery.

Within days it was announced that former Georgia Tech basketball player Javaris Crittenton was wanted for questioning, but was on the run. Eleven days later he was arrested at the Los Angeles airport by the FBI and LAPD. It is believed that Crittenton saw someone who he believed had stolen jewelry from him, and opened fire. But Jones was the only person hit.

He is currently out on bond and awaiting trial. In February he was arrested again, this time on obstruction charges for refusing to get out of his Porsche after an officer stopped him for speeding.

Romney steps into Olympic spotlight

Rarely has an Olympic dressage horse received as much attention as Rafalca.

The 15-year-old, German-bred mare is part-owned by Mitt Romney's wife and has been the source of political jokes questioning how the Republican presidential candidate can claim to know the problems of ordinary Americans when he inhabits the rarified world of dressage.

The sport, which is better known in Europe than the U.S., is the equine equivalent of ballet. Horse and rider (wearing top hat and tails) go through a series of steps that look like the horse is dancing: twirling pirouettes, prancing trots and the crowd-pleasing ''flying change,'' which looks like the horse is skipping.

Ann Romney is expected to attend Rafalca's Olympic debut, which gets under way Thursday with the Grand Prix dressage test at Greenwich Park, home of all Olympic equestrian events.

She returned to London after her husband unleashed a torrent of criticism in the British press when, shortly after arriving for the Olympics' ope

Dawgs Daily 16Jan12

Michigan State was a good loss?

Had Georgia kicked that winning FG and beat the Spartans then maybe some of their short-comings get glossed over in the off-season. Maybe they don't spend quite as much time working on Special Teams or quite as much time getting stronger in off-season workouts (Georgia looked worn-down late in the game against Michigan State). With that loss you have to believe that this group of guys knows that aren't quite there yet but they also know (based on the way they played in the first halves of the LSU and Michigan State games) that they have the talent to win the biggest games.

I've seen Georgia in a lot of "really, really, really, really, way too early top 10's". If fact, our buddies over at Crystal Ball Run put the Dawgs at #6. Georgia definitely has the defensive talent to be in the Top 10. I really believe that they will have a lethal defense next season. The issues will come on the offensive side where they have to repl...

Garrett: BROTHER! Dearest brother! Oh, these are tumultuous times, dearest brother! I’ve not been this despondent since our beloved Princeton Tigers Croquet Squad lost in the 1986 semifinals to Bard! Ugh. We went to a Roy Rogers later that evening because we knew we were not worthy of a GOOD eating. Oh, I still remember how sticky the tables were. The restaurant consisted of nothing more than fried chicken and the residue of careless breeding.

Judd: Don’t fret, dear brother. Your strategy was BRILLIANT.
Garrett: It was, wasn’t it? Icing one’s OWN kicker!
Judd: Diabolical.
Garrett: Devious.
Judd: Outrageous!
Garrett: Scandalous!
Judd: WORTHY OF GOSSIP ON NANTUCKET!
Garrett: Ha ha ha!
Judd: It was not your fault, dear brother. You know this. You know that your strategy would have paid off handsomely for us had our lowly kicker understood its machinations.
Garrett: Indeed. Icing the kicker has a mathematical history of failing, so why wouldn’t it also fail with our OWN ki...

The Time We Met Dale Hunter

Here to tell the story about my brother Chris and I meeting Dale Hunter is our dad, Andy Mottram.

I don’t remember the year (late ’80s/early ’90s), but it was a signing event at the Roy Rogers restaurant on Little River Turnpike in Fairfax. At that time Roy Rogers was one of the main sponsors for the Caps. Seems like it was middle of the day. Not much of a crowd. Not sure I really knew who he was at the time other than some guy that liked to mix it up a little.
As I recall when I saw him I was very surprised at how small he appeared –- maybe 5’10” and 200 lbs. He was just sitting at a table talking to people and handing out autographed pucks. Don’t remember it as being anything special at the time, because I really didn’t know much about him. But after that he became one of my favorite players.
Loved the way he played with that half-crazed look on his face and no fear whatsoever. I remember one time, I think it was a playoff game in NY against either the Islanders or the Rangers,...
