Kendrick Perkins To Play More Minutes In Game 4, For Some Reason

It’s a shame the Los Angeles Clippers tanked their first round series with Memphis, because NBA fans were robbed of a potential inept coaching battle for the ages in the conference semifinals between Vinny Del Negro and Scott Brooks. Fortunately, Brooks is showing what could have been in the post-Russell Westbrook injury era, by sticking with the woeful historically awful Kendrick Perkins.
Heading into Game 4 Monday night, Thunder fans hoped Brooks would take Perkins’ 2.2 points per game (on 28% shooting), 4 rebounds, 40% turnover rate and -0.3 PER into account, and perhaps bench him in favor of players who don’t completely torpedo team production (sorry, we forgot to mention that the Thunder are -43 points per 100 possessions when Perk is on the floor). Alas, this is Scott Brooks, and, if this tweet from Darnell Mayberry is any indication, it could be another long, frustrating night for Thunder fans:

Scott Brooks Curses At Refs During Timeout

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks was upset with the referees in the second quarter of their Game 3 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies and ESPN’s cameras caught the curse filled exchange.
After the Thunder called a timeout, Brooks started talking with referee Ed Mallory.
Brooks: “Why isn’t it? Why isn’t it?”
Mallory: “Its marginal”
Brooks: “It doesn’t [inaudible], that’s ********. [inaudible], asshole (?)”
The final line from Brooks is hard to understand so if you know what he is saying, post it in the comment section below.

Synchronized Flopping Makes Its NBA Debut

The only thing more shameful than Scott Brooks’ desperate Hack-Asik strategy during Houston’s 107-100 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday was this tandem flop by defensive black holes Derek Fisher and Kevin Martin.

Wait, what’s that? You want the remix? Gladly:

OKC comes up short on sad day for Brooks

DENVER -- The Thunder wanted to win this one for their coach.

But it wasn't to be.

On Saturday, Lee Brooks, the 79-year-old mother of Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks, had died in Northern California. Brooks decided to coach Sunday night against Denver at the Pepsi Center, but the Thunder fell short 121-118 in overtime.

We were trying to give him a win for his mom, said Thunder forward Serge Ibaka. But its basketball. We did the best we could.

After appearing to be hopelessly behind in the waning minutes of regulation, the Thunder almost pulled it out. Trailing 107-96 with less than three minutes left, they closed with a 13-2 run, tying the score at 109-109 on a 27-foot 3-pointer by Russell Westbrook with 22.9 seconds remaining.

But the Thunder ran out of miracles in overtime despite Kevin Durant (37) and Westbrook (36) having finished with a combined 73 points. Their six-game winning streak came to an end and they fell back into a tie with the Los Angeles Clippers for having the NBAs best record at

Thunder coach Brooks back day after mother's death

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks was on the bench leading his team in Sunday night's game against the Denver Nuggets one day after his 79-year-old mother's death.

Brooks said in a statement that he decided to coach the game because that's what he feels his mother, Lee Brooks, would have wanted.

''I appreciate the thoughts and prayers that are with my family,'' Brooks said. ''I know my mom would want me to coach tonight's game and I do so to honor her memory and all that she meant to me as a mother and as an invaluable role model.''

There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

Lee Brooks had continued operating a family-owned car wash business in Manteca, Calif. She raised Brooks and six siblings after his father left the family when Scott Brooks was still a toddler.

''Our thoughts and prayers are with Scott and his family as they mourn the loss of his mother, Lee,'' Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. '&

Father's Day basketball resonates with Brooks

MIAMI -- Bill Stricker has an idea for Father's Day.

"A win would be a great present," Stricker said of Scott Brooks coaching Oklahoma City against Miami in Sunday's Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

No, Stricker isn't actually Brooks' father. But Brooks looks at him that way.

When Brooks was less than 2 years old and growing up in Lathrop, Calif., his father abandoned the family and Brooks never saw him again. He is now deceased.

The coachs mother, Lee Brooks, raised Brooks and six older children by herself. Stricker, a local basketball coach who had played one NBA game for the Portland Trail Blazers earlier in the decade, entered Brooks' life in 1978 when he was 12.

"He was the male role model that I needed in my life," said Brooks, now 46. "He came and did a free basketball clinic in my community when I was in the seventh grade and he has been a part of my life ever since. If it wasn't for that free clinc, I wouldn't be in the position I'm in today. He

Brooks gets special moment as Thunder reach finals

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks knows he has really accomplished something by getting his team to the NBA finals.

His 79-year-old mother Lee, who hates flying, is going to get on a plane to come watch his Thunder play for the championship.

Brooks said Friday his mother refused to fly to see him play in the NBA until he was on the Houston Rockets team that played for and won the 1994 title. She held out the same requirements when he became the Thunder's coach in 2008.

She has come to see his teams when they have played in Sacramento, but otherwise she's often parked in front of the television and hollering at it when the Thunder play.

Brooks' mom said last year that if she ever came to a game, she ''might be thrown out.''
