Marlins file for free agency

All of the Marlins eligible for free agency have filed, as expected.

Nick Johnson made an impact with the Marlins. But unless Florida works out a contract with the veteran, those 35 games may be the extent of Johnson's tenure with the organization.
Johnson formally filed for free agency on Friday, along with reliever Kiko Calero, who became a valuable performer in the back end of the bullpen.
The filing period began on Thursday, and now all four of Florida's eligible ...

Once upon a time Kiko Calero was a pretty good reliever for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2003 he posted an FIP of 3.71 with a tRA of 4.45. He was even better in 2004 with a 3.14 FIP and a very good 3.32 tRA. He was traded to the Oakland A's in the Mark Mulder deal.
Over the next three seasons' in Oakland he posted FIPs of 3.58, 2.97 and 4.37 to go alon...

"A low tire ended a Chandler man’s career impersonating a Major League pitcher, police said. According to the state Department of Public Safety, Oscar Corral, 41, was using the identity of Florida Marlins relief pitcher Kiko Calero."

Oh, dear... I mean, if I was to impersonate an MLB player, it certainly wouldn't be Calero...

Wait, Someone Tried To Impersonate Kiko Calero?

Give Oscar Corral credit: he’s got a flair for obscurity. After all, if you were asked to list every single major leaguer who’s been in the league for the last seven years*, you’d give up long before reaching Kiko Calero, a journeyman reliever who’s currently toiling away in Baseball Hell Miami with the Marlins.

Kiko Calero left yesterday's game due to a sore knee and is listed as day-to-day.

Calero said he feld discomfort in the muscle area above the kneecap.
"It felt weak today," said Calero, who has appeared in 47 games this season. "On Friday, I started feeling it. But today, there were two pitches [to Utley] where my knee felt weak. I'm fine."
Calero is listed as day-to-day.
In 2003, he had surgery to repair a torn right patella.

Kiko Calero will rejoin the Marlins for tonight's game and Tim Wood lost his spot on the roster at very inopportune time.

Rookie reliever Tim Wood's homecoming plans in Tucson were spoiled when he was sent down to New Orleans to make room for reliever Kiko Calero, who will rejoin the team today in Phoenix for the series against Arizona.Wood, a Tucson native, was solid in three outings, not allowing an earned run in 7 2/3 innings.
Kiko Calero finished with Rehab

Kiko Calero has finished his rehab assignment.

Kiko Calero completed his rehab Monday night by pitching one inning for Class A Jupiter. He's likely to join the Marlins on Thursday in Arizona.

It will be good to have him back. Hopefully this time, he won't be overused.
As always, when one comes up, one goes down, my guess is that Tim Wood will be New Orleans bound. It's not this his 0.00 ERA isn't appreciated, it is just that when your are rook...

Most of you already know this, but for the ones who don't, Kiko Calero was placed on the 15-day DL.

A busy season is taking its toll on RHP Kiko Calero, who was put on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, retroactive to June 18, with inflammation in his throwing shoudler. Calero leads the Marlins staff with 36 appearances – second among NL pitchers — over the team’s first 70 games.
