FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Big news for the Rams, they just signed Jake Long to a 4 year deal taking him from the Miami Dolphins. That is great news for a Rams team that has already seen two of its better skill players leave due to free agency. With Jake Long, Sam Bradford will get an upgrade at left tackle to protect his blind side but also, Long is a huge upgrade in run blocking. The guy excels in run situations and should help to open up the holes for second year men Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead.
For now though, lets talk about Richardson who started the 2012 campaign on fire. He spelled longtime veteran Steven Jackson for most of the season but saw his workload drop significantly after the trade deadline passed. After the Rams knew they were going to have SJAX for the remainder of the year, he saw most of the work the rest of the way and Richardson only g...

Abilene Christian is quietly assembling a low-major dream team

They represent five basketball programs from five different D-I conferences, and they've all chosen to spend their final season of eligibility at a D-II school.
And while Abilene Christian last week officially announced its move to the Southland Conference and D-I play in all sports, they won't have any part of it since that move won't begin until the 2013-2014 season.
Meet Eric Lawton (Arkansas-Little Rock), Elliott Lloyd (Northern Colorado), Steven Werner (Sam Houston State), Jonathan King (Stephen F. Austin) and Charles White (Hartford). They're just part of first-year head coach and former UALR assistant Joe Golding's 11-man recruiting class for Abilene Christian's final season of D-II competition. Collectively they've started 92 games at the highest level of college basketball over a combined nine seasons.
How did they all end up at ACU? A variety of frustrations combined with ACU connections that seem to stretch nationwide.
Lawton, once a t...

Ex-NFL lineman Feasel dies at 52

Former NFL offensive lineman Grant Feasel, who was a standout at Abilene Christian before a pro career that included six seasons in Seattle, has died. He was 52.

A service for Feasel is scheduled Friday at Legacy Church of Christ in North Richland Hills, Texas. Church officials said he died Sunday, though the cause of death hasn't been revealed.

Feasel played 117 games over eight NFL seasons for four teams.

After being drafted in the sixth round in 1983 by Baltimore, he played 11 games as a rookie for the Colts. He played for Minnesota and Indianapolis in 1984, then didn't play another NFL game until his six seasons with the Seahawks (1987-92), when the center started every game in 1989 and 1990, and all 15 games he played in 1991.

Rams pick RB Richardson of Abilene Christian

The St. Louis Rams selected running back Daryl Richardson of Abilene Christian with their second pick in the seventh round Saturday.

The Rams used the 252nd selection - next to last - of the draft to pick 5-foot-11, 200-pound Richardson. It was a compensatory pick for St. Louis.

Richardson is the brother of former Abilene Christian running back Bernard Scott, who now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.

As a senior, Richardson rushed for 867 yards, including a long run of 75 yards. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and scored 11 touchdowns. Richardson also caught 40 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns.

Jewish school's season comes ends

Robert M. Beren Academy's basketball team -- which fought successfully to reschedule its state semifinal so it would not conflict with the Sabbath -- had its dream season come to an end Saturday night, losing the title game 46-42 to Abilene Christian.

Friday's semifinal, in which Beren defeated Dallas Covenant 58-46, was originally scheduled for Friday night, but the Jewish school had asked the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) to change the time so it would not fall between sundown Friday and sundown Saturday.

TAPPS initially rejected the request but eventually relented and changed the game time to Friday afternoon after several parents and players filed a religious discrimination lawsuit.

"We feel this was a success," said Beren Academy head Rabbi Harry Sinoff, according to the Houston Chronicle.

"We got to compete in a basketball game, but the whole experience for the school was really remarkable. It brought the community together.

BREAKING NEWS - Collums to take over ACU

ACUSports.com

ABILENE, Texas – Ken Collums, the architect of Abilene Christian University's record-setting offense since 2005, has been named the 19th head football coach in ACU history.
ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley made the announcement Friday, ending a week-long search process that was set off on Dec. 16 when former head coach Chris Thomsen resigned to take a job as an assistant coach at Arizona State University.
Collums will be formally introduced to the local media and ACU fans at a press conference on Tuesday (Dec. 27) at 10:30 a.m. in the Teague Special Events Center on the ACU campus.
While Mosley said he talked to other coaches about the job, he said he kept coming back to the Wildcats' current offensive coordinator as the man who was the best fit for the job.
"I am extremely excited to announce Ken Collums as the new ACU head football coach," Mosley said. "The past week has been extremely busy as I fielded calls and interest from a highly co

Graham brings 4 assistants onboard

New Arizona State coach Todd Graham has added four assistant coaches to his staff.

The school announced Friday that Abilene Christian head coach Chris Thomsen, UTEP co-offensive coordinator Bob Connelly, Washington State co-defensive coordinator Chris Ball and Mike Norvell, a member of Graham's staffs at Tulsa and Pittsburgh, were joining the staff.

Graham, after one season at Pitt, was hired Wednesday to replace Dennis Erickson, who was fired after five seasons.

Thomsen took Abilene Christian to six straight playoff berths and was 51-21 in his seven seasons there.

Norvell spent five seasons with Graham, the last as co-offensive coordinator at Pitt. Ball also spent time at Pitt and Alabama, while Connelly also coached the Crimson Tide and at UCLA.

Offensive - Jonathan Woodson, Texas A&M-Kingsville Woodson was a one-man wrecking crew, piling up 343 all-purpose yards and scoring 4 TDs against Abilene Christian. Woodson opened the scoring with an 87 yard run in the first quarter giving the Javelinas an early lead. He subsequently added TD runs of 24 and 80 and took a Daniel Ramirez pass 60 yards, each time bringing Texas A&M-Kingsville even with the Wildcats. Woodson has surpassed the 200 yard mark in five consecutive games, averaging 272 yards per game over that period, and now has 2,167 yards for the season.

Defensive - Kevin Birdow, Midwestern State Birdow helped Midwestern State keep the pressure on West Texas A&M QB Dustin Vaughn, getting both of the Mustangs' sacks, and three QB hurries. That pressure was a big reason for Vaughn completing just 20 of 45 passes for 252 yards. Both of Birdow's sacks came on third downs, forcing WT into punt situations, getting the ball back to the Mustang offense, and hel
