Orr Presser

Coach Orr's presser from this week is up on the bgsufalcons.com website. Seeing the video helps a lot. Anyway, he had some interesting things to say.The first thing was that someone asked Coach is he was praying more given the results of the last two games. You know, I don't know if they were joking or not, but it was kind of an "awk-WARD" moment. You won't be surprised to know that Coach prays the same whether the team is winning or losing.Anyway...

The votes are in for Biletnikoff, Barnes a finalist

And Freddie Barnes is in the final three. (Screenshot above from BGSUfalcons.com). This is a huge honor for our program and for Freddie. He is having a dominant season, far more than I think any suspected he would have. Teams are keying on him, and yet he finds ways to get open and makes plays after he gets the ball. The other two are Jordan Shipley of Texas and Golden Tate of Notre Dame. I also give credit to the people who vote for this award for recognizing when someone is...

Iowa Too Much for Falcons

Things were better in Carver Arena last night than they were against Xavier, but they weren't good. BG is struggling to score, and that was especially apparent last night, and then tack 15 turnovers on top of it, and you just are not getting enough quality possessions to compete.Perimeter defense was a struggle for the second straight game, as Iowa shot 48% from beyond the arc. I think it is safe to say that our defensive game plan is to hold teams well below that for ALL thei...

Falcon Victory...ahhhhhh

So, the Falcons picked up the victory AT HOME tonight at the Doyt. It was actually a pretty fun night. First of all, it was a perfect night for football....a great night to see our team. Even though we struggled a little in the first half, we came out in the second half and lit them up and ended up winning by two scores. Even though they had a shot to get it a little closer at the end, they were still two scores and two 2-xp from TYING the game.I don't know w...

Falcon Basketball Preview--Two Perspectives

We're going to take a quick break from football, since the team does not play again until Thursday. I enjoy basketball season every bit as much as I do football season, and I find both sports fascinating and very compelling. With that in mind, let me take a quick preview of the Falcons for this year....starting with the conventional wisdom. Because there is a very easy way to preview this team, one that seems obvious, is difficult to argue with, and might very well be right.Tha...

A victory is won....

A team that loses four straight should be happy to get a victory.A team with a reputation for heart stopping victories should be happy for a finish that didn't require a defribillator.A team that is fighting for a .500 season needs every win it can get. And, these things were all true for the Falcons.Yet, right there, in his first post-game sentence, Coach Clawson said he was always happy to win and disappointed at the same time.Happy to win. We were the better team today, and while ...

Falcons Victory....the Cardiac Kids of the Flatlands

My son was with me at the game Saturday, and on the way back to the hotel he asked me what the most exciting game I ever saw was. I think that the winner remains the BG-Miami game my senior year when Brian McClure was injured and BG rallied with a backup QB and TWO onside kicks to stun Miami---made extra sweet because that is usually the type of thing that happens TO us when we play Miami, not the other way around. But the Kent game was up there. The rally was fantastic, right down to the fini...

When Bowling Green receiver Freddie Barnes made his only drop of the game to preserve Marshall's 17-10 non-conference win Saturday night, Thundering Herd coach Mark Snyder put his hands on his head along the sideline.
Falcons Lose to Marshall

Well, after two games when we left more or less satisfied with the effort, it was bound to happen that we would leave a game feeling disappointed, and that happened to night from Hungtington.Marshall beat Bowling Green 17-10, against a team you would like to think we could beat.I just listened to Coach Clawson's post-game, and his analysis was that we were "out-physicaled" on the line of scrimmage both ways. It is hard to argue with that conclusion, and, I might add, it is nice ...

Not Even Dave Wannstedt's Mustache Can Prevent the Upset

Mustachioed former NFL head coach Dave Wannstedt couldn't prevent his #25 Pittsburgh Panthers from being upset by Bowling Green at home. Despite picking up 393 yards to Bowling Green's 254, Pittsburgh just couldn't hold on to the ball long enough to do anything with it, as Pitt committed four turnovers (1 INT, 3 fumbles). Bowling Green was much better handling the ball, with 1 interception as their only blemish.

So what does this mean for Pittsburgh football - will they be able...
