The Big East champion almost always ends up in the Orange Bowl and is guaranteed a BCS berth for the final two years of the system. However, the Sugar Bowl — with the second-to-last pick — would likely take this year’s Big East champion leaving the Orange Bowl to take Kent State. And that’s how I would describe the 74-yard touchdown run by Kent State running back Dri Archer on Saturday. Archer, a junior running back from Florida, took an inside handoff from the shotgun formation and ran toward the left sideline during the fourth quarter of his team’s game against Bowling Green. He ran into a pileup that included three Bowling Green defenders, and somehow managed to avoid being tackled. He cut all the way across the field, avoided another tackle, and then cut back up the field and darted into the end zone to complete the long run.
