Clemson adds second big man in class of 2013

The Tigers are proving yet again, size does matter…at least in the ACC.
Brad Brownell has locked down Sidy Mohamed Djitte out of Fayetteville, N.C., the second big man in the 2013 class. The other was Ibrahim Djambo, who comes with one season of playing time at Three River Community College in Missouri.
Djitter is a solid get. The 43rd ranked center, according to ESPN, he’s long and physical and can dominate the paint defensively. He gets good position on the block, but prefers to swat away the shots. When it comes to offense, Djitte likes to face the basket and is capable of stretching his shot out to about 12-15 feet.
Like most big men, Djitte has a lot of potential, but will need a couple years to develop his back the the basket game.
For Clemson, with the departure of Devin Booker, Milton Jennings and Bernard Sullivan, they headed into the offseason desperately needing to get some bodies for the paint. I would go ahead and declare it a success.
No, I don’t expect either to be competing for first-tea

Projected 2013-14 Lineup: Clemson Tigers

In the ACC, some starting lineups are easy to figure out, while others will be much tougher, like Clemson’s for example. The fact is, Brad Brownell has a lot of new pieces to play with. He’s got a transfer, a couple of injury redshirts coming back into play and two decent freshmen as well. His two stars are gone and of the players coming back, only two started at least 25 games last year. What is a coach to do? First and foremost, he needs to put a lineup on the floor that can score some freaking points. This team averaged a pathetic 61.5 points per game last year, good enough to crack 300th in the nation.
GONE: Devin Booker, Milton Jennings, Bernard Sullivan and T.J. Sapp (left early last season)
PROJECTED STARTING LINEUP
G – Jordan Roper (SO), 5-11/155
G – Devin Coleman (R-SO), 6-2/200
F – Jaron Blossomgame (R-FR), 6-7/205
F – K.J. McDaniels (JR), 6-6/195
C – Landry Nnoko (SO), 6-10/240
I’ll be honest, I went back and forth on this starting lineup. I started off with both Hall and Harrison i

Clemson's Sullivan transfers

Charlotte coach Alan Major says that former Clemson forward Bernard Sullivan has transferred to the play for the 49ers.

Sullivan, a native of Gastonia, N.C., will sit out the 2013-14 season in accordance with NCAA rules and have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2014-15.

The 49ers recruited Sullivan heavily out of high school and Major calls him ''a skilled athletic forward who's able to handle the basketball.''

In two seasons at Clemson, Sullivan struggled to breaking into the rotation, scoring 89 points and grabbing 66 rebounds, while shooting 41 percent from the field.

As a senior at Davidson Day High School Sullivan was rated a four-star prospect by ESPNU, Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was rated the No. 83 overall prospect by Rivals and No. 87 by Scout.

ACC notes: Veteran-laden Tigers primed for title run

On Thursday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said the Tigers' post-spring practice depth chart, released earlier in the day, "doesn't mean anything."

But when 20 of the 22 listed starters are juniors and seniors, it does matter. It matters a lot.

Making a run at a national championship is better requested of a team full of veterans with experience, and the Tigers have that. Young, fun and explosive two years ago in many spots, Clemson is now an older version of what it was.

Quarterback Tajh Boyd, a Heisman Trophy candidate, is a senior, and junior wide receiver Sammy Watkins is smarter than ever, and a bit humbled, which Swinney believes will make him an improved football player.

Even offensive coordinator Chad Morris, who was just a couple of years removed from coaching in high school when Boyd took over as a sophomore, is now more grizzled and a hot commodity in the ranks.

As a result, Clemson is less likely to stumble this season, an issue that has plagued this program for seemingly e

Thank You Clemson for the Vandalism

Thanks Clemson for the recent rash of vandalism both at USC and in a hotel room by your beloved DeAndre Hopkins.

It appears Mr. Hopkins does not understand how to act in a hotel room. This too brings unwanted attention to Clemson. Along with this, someone decided painting a Tiger Paw on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia was a good idea. The paw also was painted on one of the train cars known as "Cockabooses" parked next to the stadium, along with the phrase "Go Tigers."

I for one says thank you Clemson. Your true colors shine....

As South Carolina fans, we love it when your fans or players do stupid things to bring bad exposure to the school. Also the vandalism at the South Carolina football stadium was in a way needed to help bring more fuel to the rivalary as USC has now beaten you four times in a row on the gridiron. It has become commonplace to beat you in football. The new crop of talent on the Gamecocks football team needed a...

Clemson, S.C. The Clemson Tigers gave their fans a reprieve from a weekend of golf by staging their annual spring game at Clemson Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. Taking stock in the Orange's 34-26 win over the White on the afternoon:

1. Should we re-start Sammy Watkins' Heisman talk?

Watkins' sophomore slump one hindered by both a suspension and injuries was well documented throughout the 2012 season. He quickly fell out of contention for many major awards after being named a First Team All-American and National Freshman of the Year by numerous outlets.

The receiver finished with a respectable, but underachieving, 57 receptions, 708 yards and three scores. In every respect, he was overshadowed by DeAndre Hopkins, who completed his Tigers career as one of the most accomplished receivers in school history.

In 2013, Watkins will fill Hopkins' role in offensive coordinator Chad Morris' offense. On Saturday, he looked more than capable.

Watkins shows skills at Clemson's spring game

Sammy Watkins showed Clemson may not miss star receiver DeAndre Hopkins quite so much next season, catching two long touchdown passes in the Tigers' spring game Saturday.

Watkins was a freshman All-American in 2011 and helped Clemson to its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 20 years. But a two-game suspension, injuries and Hopkins' emergence last fall kept Watkins a second option much of the season. Watkins made his impact felt in the scrimmage with scoring catches of 41 and 50 yards from Cole Stoudt. Watkins had seven catches for 156 yards, better than he did in all but one of the nine games he played last year.

Hopkins had 82 catches last season for a 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. He gave up his senior season to turn pro.

ACC notebook: Watkins fills new role

Sammy Watkins might as well forget his sophomore season.

The gifted Clemson wide receiver didnt duplicate his historic freshman campaign last fall, as a suspension stemming from a drug possession arrest and a leg injury tempered his season, which ended with 57 receptions for 708 yards and only three touchdowns. But 2013 is a new year and season for Watkins, and it means hes playing a new position, too.

Watkins has taken over as the boundary receiver, a role occupied by DeAndre Hopskins last season. Hopkins went from off the radar to a household name in the ACC, catching 82 passes for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. Quite frankly, Hopkins was better as a receiver last season than Watkins was during his freshman year, which culminated with him being named the the first true freshman first-team All-American ever from the ACC.

The difference in his new position from what he did before is a matter of matching the discipline and precision of running specific routes with his immense natural ability. In addition, W

Clemson fires women's basketball coach Coleman

Clemson has fired women's basketball coach Itoro Coleman after three seasons.

Athletics director Dan Radakovich said Friday that he decided the program was not going the right direction under Coleman.

Coleman went 25-63 and 10-38 in the Atlantic Coast Conference in her three seasons coaching the Tigers. Clemson was 5-13 in the ACC this season, and its ninth place finish was the best since 2007.

Coleman was a star guard for the Tigers from 1995 to 1999, the golden era for Clemson women's basketball. At one point, the Tigers made the NCAA tournament in 14 of 15 seasons. But Clemson hasn't been to the NCAAs since 2002.

The Tigers season ended Thursday with a 56-45 loss to North Carolina State in the opening round of the ACC tournament.

Recruit Davin Bellamy pictured near bong during Oregon visit

Davin Bellamy is a defensive end from Chamblee, Ga., and his recruitment just got a lot more interesting.
Bellamy, a four-star recruit according to Scout and ESPN, was on a visit to Oregon over the weekend. According to SB Nation, Bellamy tweeted the photo you see above before quickly deleting it, likely after he realized there was a bong on the table. He is the one in the green jacket and sunglasses.
He also tweeted this just before 9:00 pm:
Oregon trip going better than I thought

Smooth move, bro.
Bellamy has received scholarship offers from about half the top schools in the country — including many from the SEC, ACC, and Big Ten. According to Rivals, he has the most interest in Florida State, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Hey, the good news is he now has joined Matt Barnes in the unintentional bong photo club.

Video: Ray Lewis delivers pregame speech to Clemson football team

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Sweeney had a motivational speaker come talk to his team before Saturday's game against N.C. State. That speaker was none other than 13-time Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis, who may very well be the scariest dude on the face of the planet. Here's video of the 37-year old's pregame speech to the Tigers players. It kind of makes you want to run through a wall yourself, doesn't it?Coach Sweeney is hoping the pep talk prevents another defeat like the one Clemson suffered from the Wolfpack last season (37-13).Via The Big Lead.
