New Mexico Football: Q&A with Lobos coach Bob Davie

New Mexico coach Bob Davie was kind enough to share 30 minutes of his day with me during a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. Here’s what he had to say about the Lobos’ spring session, which is currently still underway until April 27.

“I told our team yesterday that I have no idea how our spring is going to compared to other teams we play. I imagine that they are all having good springs and that every coach feels good about things. The point is that during this time of the year all you can control is the process and the way you go about things. Internally, we’re pleased about the direction everything is going, especially compared to a year ago. Hopefully that translates to being more competitive.

“The big thing for this program was getting everyone consistent on how we do things; it was a day-to-day process. The se...

New Mexico guard Tony Snell will forgo his senior season to enter the NBA draft.

The 21-year-old Snell made the announcement at a Monday news conference on the school's Albuquerque campus.

The 6-foot-7 Snell says ''in my heart, I feel like it's a good decision to leave now.''

Newly hired Lobos coach Craig Neal was at Snell's side when he announced his plan to turn pro.

Snell averaged 12.5 points per game this past season and hit a team-high 64 3-pointers. He was the Mountain West tournament MVP.

New Mexico Beat Writer Quits Job Via Column After Lobos Loss to Harvard Thursday

There’s a big difference between a journalist and your run-of-the-mill blogger — objectivity. While journalists (generally) abide by an ethical code that’s maintained to keep the integrity of their work, bloggers tend to get emotionally involved with their subject.
Case in point is Dennis Latta, a New Mexico Lobos beat writer for Loboland.com.
According to Latta, he’s been comvering New Mexico basketball for more than 30 years, and, according to various reports across the internet he works as a freelancer for Loboland. Well, it seems that Latta may be a bit too emotionally involved with the team — and that would be even if he was a fan, much less someone covering the team.
On Friday Latta posted a column on the website in which he professes that, for this first time in his career, he had expectations for the Lobos. Likewise, it turns out that he’s so disgusted with the team after its 68-62 loss to Harvard that he’s finally calling it quits.

Harvard Heavy Underdogs Against New Mexico in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

If Harvard’s basketball team is going to win its first NCAA tournament game it will be a big surprise, as the Ivy League champion Crimson open as 11-point underdogs against Mountain West champion New Mexico for Thursday’s game in Salt Lake City.
Could Thursday’s game be the last for Harvard coach Tommy Amaker? No. 14 Harvard definitely has its work cut out against the third-seeded Lobos. It’s the best seed that New Mexico has received in the Big Dance.
Lobos coach Steve Alford has the school in the NCAA tournament for the second straight season. UNM defeated Long Beach State 75-68 in the Round of 64 last year before falling to Louisville 59-56 in the second round. The Lobos are 2-2 under Alford all-time in the NCAA tournament.
The Mountain West Conference sent five teams to the NCAA tournament, and the Lobos (29-5) won the regular-season title by two games. They beat UNLV 63-56 on the Rebels’ home court in the conference tournament championship game on Saturday.
