No. 111 UNLV Rebels season preview: Could be Hauck's final season if Rebels don't improve

No. 111 UNLV Rebels (2-11) Coach Bobby Hauck (fourth season, 6-32 at UNLV, 86-49 overall)Returning Starters: 19, 8 offense, 10 defense, 1 special teamsRecruiting Rank: 114Strength of Schedule: 71 Things haven’t exactly gone the way Hauck would have wanted them at UNLV. After seven successful seasons at FCS Montana, where he led the Grizzlies to three national title games, Hauck’s Rebels won just two games for the third straight season. This could be Hauck’s final year in Las Vegas if his team doesn’t see significant improvement. Last season started with a heartbreaking triple overtime loss to Minnesota and closed by being demolished by last-place Hawaii 48-10. Sophomore quarterback Nick Sherry should return as starter after a rocky freshman year, throwing for 2,544 yards with 16 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Senior running back Tim Cornett had one of the better 2012 seasons as a Rebel, rushing for 1,268 yards and seven scores. UNLV possesses a pair of good junior wide receiver...

Katin Reinhardt Transferring From UNLV To USC

Katin Reinhardt has decided to transfer from UNLV to USC.
Reinhardt left UNLV due to his desire to play point guard.
Reinhardt originally committed to USC in 2010, but changed his mind last May.
Andy Enfield will use Reinhardt in his uptempo offense beginning in the 14-15 season after he sits out one year.

Katin Reinhardt continues the Mater Dei tradition

You’ve probably never heard of David Bagga. After his career as a role player at powerhouse Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana, California, Bagga walked on to the Arizona Wildcats. He later gained a small amount of notoriety when he wrote a book about his experience called The Walk On. In that book he talked a little about his high school experience. He played on a team with 5 players who would earn Division I scholarships. And the remarkable thing is that all five players ended up transferring schools in college. Of course, this wasn’t that rare for Mater Dei. The LA Times attempted to put together an exhaustive list of Mater Dei alumni who transferred in college and came up with nearly two dozen names. Since that was written Tyler Lamb and Keala King have transferred. And now, another alumnus – UNLV’s Katin Reinhardt is doing the same. Bagga has been open when it comes to the transfers. Conversing with AAU bigwig Dinos Trigonis last September, he had this to say. @davidb...

Anthony Bennett Doesn't Want To Be Labeled By Position, Believes He Can Play Inside And Out

Anthony Bennett proved to be a versatile player in his lone season at UNLV.
Bennett possesses a 7-foot-1 wingspan and shot 38 percent from beyond the arc in 35 games for the Runnin’ Rebels.
"I just feel like I’m a basketball player. I don’t really have a position. I can play inside. I can play out," the 6-foot-8 Bennett said. "So whatever a team needs, I think I got it."
Bennett has spent time doing background work on teams that might select him. "I can go anywhere in the top 5. I feel I can play in any of those systems," Bennett said. "I don’t even have to change my game."

UNLV's Moser transferring to Oregon

Forward Mike Moser says he'll transfer to Oregon for his senior season.

Moser, who went to Portland's Grant High School, averaged 14 points and 10.5 rebounds at UNLV as a sophomore but was hampered by injury as a junior.

The 6-foot-8 forward confirmed his decision via Twitter, saying he's excited to be going home. If Moser completes a final course for his undergraduate degree at UNLV, he'll be eligible to play immediately for Oregon.

Moser can help the Ducks following the departure of Arsalan Kazemi. Oregon finished 28-9 this past season and advanced to the NCAA tournament round of 16 for the first time since 2007.

Mike Moser transferring to UW from UNLV

Mike Moser from UNLV 'likely' transferring to UW

From CBSSports.com we've found out that the 6-foot-8 Moser will graduate this summer and transfer. We have not heard anything yet out of UW.

"It's almost done that he's going to transfer and play at Washington," one source said. Our friends at HuskyHaul tweeted this AM "Mike Moser would be a huge get for Romar. A front court of him and Blackwell could be dominating and extremely athletic."

In 2012/13 injuries and the fact he was unable to play power forward have dropped his draft stock. Most NBA draft guru's had him pegged as a potential 1st round lottery pick for what its worth.

This would be move #3 for Moser, who started at UCLA as a frosh.

Rebels advance to final on home floor

Katin Reinhardt scored a career-high 21 points Friday night to lead UNLV to a 75-65 victory over Colorado State in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament.

The third-seeded Runnin' Rebels (25-8) advance to Saturday's championship game, where they'll meet top-seeded New Mexico, a 60-50 winner over San Diego State, with an automatic NCAA tournament bid on the line.

Reinhardt scored 16 of his points in the first half, when he was 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

The Rebels are now 8-4 all-time in the semifinals of the Mountain West tournament, and they improved to 3-1 against Colorado State in the event.

Reinhardt was one of three Rebels to score in double figures, as Anthony Bennett scored 19 and Anthony Marshall added 12.

The Rams (25-8), who were seeded second in the tournament, were led by Colton Iverson, who had 24 points.

Chris Jones traveled strange recruiting road

HOUSTON, Miss. -- Recruiting in the Southeastern Conference already had plenty of stories. Chris Jones may have raised the bar.

The 5-star defensive end from Houston (Miss.) High School chose Mississippi State over Ole Miss Wednesday morning on national signing day.

It wasn't as easy as picking up a hat though, and the regular SEC suspects aren't involved. Trade Alabama and LSU for Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Ole Miss came into the picture heavily two weeks before signing day after Jones (6-foot-5, 255 pounds) made two late-night secretive visits to Oxford that stirred Rebel fans.

The twists and turns continued all the way into signing day as Jones said he didn't make a final decision until 6 a.m., three hours before his press conference.

"To tell you the truth I considered flipping. I was 80 percent on flipping until this morning I talked to both coaches," Jones said. "I felt like Mississippi State was the best fit for me."

UNLV’s Marshall a catalyst for upcoming Mountain West slate

UNLV senior guard Anthony Marshall made the ultimate sacrifice for a perimeter player. He moved from a shooting guard to a point guard to give the Runnin’ Rebels the experience they needed on the perimeter with such a young 2012-13 squad. With that, he has taken off as the Rebs are eighth in the nation with 17.8 apg. with Marshall leading the way with 71 assists against only 34 turnovers through their first 14 games and a 12-2 start.
Saturday’s winnable 79-73 loss to North Carolina in Chapel Hill was a learning experience for Dave Rice’s youthful squad. It was also a learning experience for the Rebels as they learned that Marshall’s game and his experience will be a key cog in holding this team together as it enters Mountain West play at New Mexico on January 9.

UNLV’s Mike Moser Dislocated His Elbow… It Wasn’t Pretty

UNLV’s Mike Moser dislocated his elbow during the first half of Sunday’s game against Ca, and it wasn’t pretty. UNLV’s head coach said that Moser will be out “for some time.” I’ve been lucky enough to never experience a dislocated anything, and after seeing this video I would really like to keep it that way. Oh yeah, and UNLV won 76-75.

UNLV Player Mike Moser Dislocated Elbow Injury Was Ugly (Video)

#21 ranked UNLV beat California yesterday 76-75, but it didn't come without a big loss. UNLV Junior forward Mike Moser dislocated his elbow on a freak play in the first 5 minutes of the game going for a loose ball and never returned. Moser averages 11 points per game and grabs over 8 rebounds per game. UNLV won the game because of their talented trio of ballers Anthony Bennett, Bryce Dejean-Jones and Anthony Marshall who scored nearly 80% of the teams points. Check out the ugly injury in the video below.

Inside the boxscore: UNLV 81, Dixie State 80

1. Division II Dixie State was able to force an overtime game with top-25 UNLV. Yes, this was only an exhibition, but it's still a red flag (albeit, a minor one). Dixie State isn't among the Division II top-25 (they're deep in the "also receiving votes" category) but that will change if they play like they did down the stretch in Vegas. UNLV can chalk this up to rotations and a lack of focus. But that doesn't mean it's okay.

	2. This was a remarkably uptempo (and overtime) 87 possession game. Dixie State turned it over 24 times, which was 28% of their possessions, while UNLV turned the ball over 21 times (24%). The sloppy play led to neither team managing a point per possession. UNLV had the No. 71 offense in the nation last season, averaging a strength adjusted 1.074 points per possession. Against Dixie State they managed a measly 0.93 PPP.

	3. Carlos Lopez-Sosa attempted five shots on the night, and only made one. But his one was in the game&#...
