Brady Hoke: Notre Dame is ‘Chickening Out’ of Series with Michigan

University of Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has done a great job of reviving the Wolverine football program that had come into hard times during the previous years prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor. A Michigan man to the fullest, Hoke is all about the tradition of the program and its legacy.
Part of the tradition for Michigan is their annual match-up with Notre Dame. A rivalry that has produced some of the most memorable games in college football history, is actually scheduled to conclude after the 2014 college football season. Hoke was asked about the ending of this special rivalry at the Michigan Sports Commission Annual Luncheon, and didn’t hold anything back about his thoughts on the matter.
Per Mlive: “The Notre Dame game, that rivalry, which they’re chickening out of. They’re still gonna play Michigan State, they’re gonna play Purdue, but they don’t want to play Michigan. I don’t know how they made that decision … I really do … But anyway, that’s a great ...

Mailbag: Caris LeVert, Possession Distribution, Rule Changes, More

The UM Hoops Mailbag is a collection of questions tweeted (@umhoops), e-mailed or sent via our Facebook page. Submit your questions and we’ll answer as many as we can.
@joealexis: Isn’t Caris LeVert being overlooked for next season? I think that he has tremendous upside.
@RyanParrill Chances Irvin doesn’t play more min than LeVert like people are concluding? LeVert was expected to RS & also used for his defense at the end of the year.
I love LeVert’s potential but his offensive production really tailed off in Big Ten play. Of Michigan’s returning players, it’s tough not to single out LeVert as one guy that might make the most important. He’s young for a freshman, he’s still growing, he has a ton of room to add strength and most importantly he made some plays as a freshman. Zak Irvin is actually only 11 days younger than LeVert. He’s also a really good player. Michigan needs to replace a lot of offensive firepower and Irvin fits the bill.
LeVert seems like the pe...

The Hokester is the GOAT

Fundamental football makes him dripping wet

Welcome back to The Money Shot, kiddies, which is also known as your home for analyzing the quotes of college football coaches! At least it is this week! You may have thought that we were through with that after Monday’s treasure trove but WE ARE NOT. If you have learned two things from this site over the years (in regards to the NFL’s little bro) they are:

1. Ohio Buckeye fans suck turds.
2. I hate Notre Dame almost as much.

Who is the man that can bring those two sides together to form one giant ball of hate and cookie dough? Who is the man that stirs the pot of chili like none other? Who is the man that brought old man trolling to the Big Ten? Who is the man with the 24 inch flabby pythons? WHO DA MAN?

It’s The Hokester, BRAH! The rotund Michigan Man(!) head coach was speaking to a group of loser alums this past weekend in Grand Rapids (I hope it was Ohio) and fired off this gem in between shots of melted oleo:

"We are fortuna...

Hoke: Notre Dame 'chickening out'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan coach Brady Hoke has taken the Notre Dame rivalry up a notch.

Hoke made a crowd chuckle on Monday at West Michigan Sports Commission luncheon by saying the Fighting Irish are "chickening out" from the storied series.

Notre Dame exercised an option in its football-scheduling contract with Michigan last fall to cancel games from 2015-2017.

Hoke lamented that the Irish will continue to play rivals Michigan State and Purdue, joking he knows why they made that decision.

A letter from Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick to Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon that opted out of the game was obtained by The Associated Press through a Freedom of Information Act request. Swarbrick wrote then that the move was necessary because of commitments to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Brady Hoke needs to check his facts before calling out Notre Dame

It’s understandable what Michigan football coach Brady Hoke is trying to do, stirring up some controversy with his remarks that Notre Dame is “chickening out” of the two teams’ rivalry after the 2014 season.

Brady Hoke feels slighted by Notre Dame cancelling games between 2015 and 2017, but it makes sense for the Fighting Irish.
The game is a guarantee that the Wolverines will be on national television, and a win over the Fighting Irish, whether Notre Dame is good like in 2012 or bad like the rest of this century, still looks good to recruits, boosters and the BCS.
What Hoke may not know is that the University of Michigan is one of just many schools that Notre Dame has had rivalries with in it’s tradition-rich history. With the Fighting Irish taking on more ACC opponents as a part of the agreement between the school and the conference in a partial-membership for football, Notre Dame had to take a step back and analyze its schedule and find a balance between tradition and the curren...

Brady Hoke says Notre Dame "chickening out" of annual rivalry with Michigan.

Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke might be taking Notre Dame's decision to end its annual rivalry game with the Wolverines after 2014 a little too personal. Speaking in front of a luncheon for the Western Michigan Sports Commission, Hoke let loose on how he really felt about the ND's decision, which was a result of the school's recent partnership with the ACC.

"We have unbelievable rivalry games at Michigan," Hoke said. "The Notre
Dame, that rivalry, which they're chickening out of ... they're still
going to play Michigan State, they'll play Purdue; they don't want to
play Michigan."

Here's video of Hoke dropping his diss of ND.

The Victory Formation points out that historically, Notre Dame's rivalries with Michigan State and in-state (Indiana) rival Purdue were more bigger than that between the Fighting Irish and Michigan. Of course Hoke may not see it that way.

The two teams have two more ...

Michigan's Hoke calls out ND for dropping rivalry

Ahh, the good old alumni talk circuit strikes again.... Every year coaches go to these invited speaking engagements and nine times out of ten at some point they put their foot in their mouths or stir up some sort of controversy. Well, today it was Brady Hoke of Michigan doing just that.

What was his sin? Calling out Notre Dame for cancelling their rivalry series with the Wolverines.

Hoke didn't just call them out for it though, he called them chicken for doing so. At least that's what ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein is reporting.

	Here is the direct quote:

"We have unbelievable rivalry games at Michigan," Hoke said. "The Notre Dame, that rivalry, which they're chickening out of ... they're still going to play Michigan State, they'll play Purdue; they don't want to play Michigan."

Michigan continuing to look for a depth QB

The search for a depth QB behind starter Devin Gardner continues for the Michigan Wolverines this spring.
Initially Michigan pursued Florida State transfer Clint Trickett with former Arkansas Razorback QB Brandon Mitchell also being an option.
“Yeah, we are (still looking),” Michigan head coach Brady Hoke told Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. “But, it’s one of those things where there’s a lot of I’s to dot and T’s to cross to make sure it’s the right fit.”
Meinke added, “Hoke said it’s more likely Michigan adds a graduate transfer than a JUCO quarterback because the school’s requirements could make the latter more difficult.”
At this point the Wolverines aren’t expected to land Mitchell but Hoke has made it a point to extend invitations to QB’s around the country considering a move. Furthermore what makes this more intriguing for guys looking to transfer is they could potentially be one play away from starting for the Wolverines.

Hoke says Notre Dame is “chickening out” of its series with Michigan. Notes ND is still playing Michigan State.
— Kyle Meinke (@kmeinke) May 13, 2013

Notre Dame and Michigan have one of the best rivalries in college football. These two universities have taken the field against each other every season since 2002, and 40 times total. According to MLive Michigan football beat writer, Kyle Meinke, the teams have been on a three-year contract in which either program could cancel the series.
From what we can see, it looks like series won’t be continuing past 2014.

Michigan Football: Two more Wolverines leave program

Two more players have left the Michigan football program, upping the total count to eight offseason departures for Brady Hoke and Co.

Safety Marvin Robinson and linebacker Mike Jones—both senior reserves—made their decision this morning and are no longer with the team.

The only effect this will have on the Michigan roster is a small hit in the depth chart for both positions.

Robinson has seen 28 games throughout his career but with limited playing time and was behind sophomore Jarrod Wilson in the post-spring depth chart. He compiled nine tackles in 2012.

Jones was primarily a special teams player and was never able to enter a game on defense. He finishes his Wolverine career with eight total tackles.

Many of these players that are leaving the program are upperclassmen that are not getting much of an opportunity to see the field. They are Rich Rodriguez’s guys that are being replaced by Hoke’s up-and-coming talent, who is now in his third season as coach.

Notebook: Chatman confirms Michigan visit, U-M tracking 5-star guard

Kameron Chatman and Tyler Dorsey
The Wolverines have been tracking class of 2015 ICP Elite wing Kameron Chatman for quite some time and John Beilein will earn a coveted unofficial visit from the versatile forward. Chatman, who we profiled last week, confirmed in Dallas for the third session of the Nike EYBL that he will take an unofficial visit to Michigan on June 1st. The visit not only aligns with Michigan’s College Practice Camp but with Chatman’s birthday. After his visit, Chatman is likely to receive a scholarship offer from John Beilein and the Wolverines.
Chatman doesn’t have other visits scheduled but he does plan to attend the NBPA Top 100 Camp (June 12-15th) and the Deron Williams Skills Academy (June 23-26th). Michigan, Washington and Oregon continue to recruit him the hardest but he emphasizes that distance won’t play a factor in his decision.

Michigan Football recruiting update: Lawrence Marshall commits

espn photo
Michigan Football recruiting update. Southfield, Michigan 4-star defensive end Lawrence Marshall has committed to play for the Wolverines. He becomes the ninth member of Michigan’s 2014 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4, 230 pound Marshall is a good athlete who possesses the coveted combination of speed and power.
Marshall selected Michigan over offers from Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahome, Ole Miss and others.
Marshall is ranked as the fourth best player in the state of Michigan and the 12th best defensive end by ESPNU. He ranks 107th overall on the EPSN 150. Of Michigan’s nine 2014 commitments, eight of them can be found on the ESPN 150. Not too shabby by Brady Hoke and his staff.
Jabrill Peppers
Michigan seems to be in a great position to land the nation’s #2 overall recruit Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, New Jersey). Peppers recently blazed his way to a New Jersey state record in the 200 meter dash by clocking a 20.79. He also posted a 10.2 in the 100 meter dash (the Olym...

Michigan punter reinstated, sitting out 2013 slate

Michigan punter Will Hagerup has been reinstated to the team after a suspension for violating team rules.

However, coach Brady Hoke said Tuesday that Hagerup will sit for the entire 2013 season. He will be eligible to play as a fifth-year senior in 2014.

Hoke says he has been pleased with Hagerup's progress so far, adding he must continue to move forward. Matt Wile will likely punt in place of Hagerup this year

Hagerup was suspended Dec. 16 for violating unspecified team rules. He was voted All-Big Ten punter by the media last season as a junior. The Milwaukee native says the past five months have been an incredible, humbling time for him.

Vince Edwards comfortable with Michigan, Purdue

It’s no secret that Michigan and Purdue have prioritized Vince Edwards at the combo forward position. The 6-foot-7 forward demonstrated why both John Beilein and Matt Painter want him so badly at the 2013 Bill Hensley Memorial Run-n-Slam Classic in Fort Wayne over the weekend.
Edwards was critical in helping his All Ohio Red squad take home the 17U Championship in a loaded field. He can do a little bit of everything at the combo forward spot and improved as the weekend wore on.
Edwards had 22 points in All Ohio Red’s semifinal win over Spiece and he added ten in the championship victory over Team Thad.
While it was a statement weekend on the court for Edwards and All Ohio Red, not much has changed in his recruitment. This summer is more about moving close to a decision than attracting additional suitors for the Middletown, Ohio native. He knows the two schools he’s most comfortable with – Purdue and Michigan - he just doesn’t know how to differentiate the two.
Purdue has been recru...
