Arizona Wildcats football team receives new uniforms

The Arizona Wildcats football team announced their new 2013 uniforms this week. The Nike designed uniforms come in school colors, with three jerseys, three pants, and four helmet colors. All jerseys feature not just shoulders, but numbers with a blue-to-red gradient. While they look good on the white, the numbers fade a bit into the jersey [...]

Arizona transfer Chol picks San Diego State

Angelo Chol, who announced last week that he was transferring from Arizona, committed Wednesday to play for San Diego State, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Chol starred at San Diego's Hoover High before signing with Arizona in 2011, making his signing somewhat of a homecoming for the Sudanese national. The 6-foot-9 forward will have two years of eligibility to use at San Diego State under coach Steve Fisher, who has developed several successful big men while taking the Aztecs to three straight NCAA tournaments.

The 19-year-old Chol, whose shot-blocking and hustle made him a fan favorite at McKale Center, averaged 1.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 8.5 minutes per game in 28 games this season. He was a relative newcomer to basketball who grew up in Sudan, and his offensive skills showed a lack of polish despite his status as a top-50 recruit nationally. He had fallen behind freshmen Kaleb Tarczewski, Brandon Ashley and Grant Jerrett in the rotation by the latter part of the year.

Arizona shows off new football uniforms for 2013

The Arizona Wildcats will have quite the wardrobe this 2013 season. If you have been paying attention to Arizona over the past year, you will recognize all of the new looks, for better or worse. The all-red look returns in 2013 with a red jersey-pants-helmet combo and the copper-colored helmet also makes a return for the upcoming season.
If you remember, I loved the addition of the copper helmet, a tribute to the copper tradition in the state. While the history and tradition angle was nice, they looked sharp. I think the same when I see it now, paired with the blue home uniform.
I was not as keen on the all-red look from the start, but I have grown on the red helmet slightly. It’s Arizona’s fourth best helmet (white, copper, blue, red) in my opinion, so hopefully we do not see it all too often in the fall. I still prefer the white helmet for regular use but the bue helmet looks great with Arizona’s red jersey and blue pants combo.
One new feature of the uniforms is the coloring of t...

Photos: Arizona Unveils New Uniforms For Its Football Team

Another week, another new set of uniforms for a college football team. This time it’s the Arizona Wildcats, sporting a fresh look from Nike that is sure to have mixed reviews.
The school unveiled the uniforms via a YouTube video and its Instagram account. While they aren’t terrible, I do wonder why they went with a fade in/out color scheme for the numbers. Personally, I think it would look cleaner if they’d just chosen one solid color or another.
The school had this to say about the release:

“Nike, Arizona’s long-standing apparel and footwear provider, partnered with the program to create a new look for the team. The updated jerseys feature ombre jersey numbers in the school’s traditional Cardinal, Navy and White. Nike has produced jerseys and pants in all three of those colors to suit various uniform combinations, complemented by Cardinal, Navy, White and Copper helmets.”

Below are some shots of the new jerseys, along with the hype video released by the school. You can see more h...

Arizona Wildcats unveil new football uniforms

On Monday, the Arizona Wildcats football program unveiled their new football uniforms. The helmets are the exact same as last year, but they have now added the copper helmet to their full-time rotation, which was only worn once last year against Oregon State. Overall the new uniforms looks great. The numbers fading from red to blue and blue to red in the different uniforms is awesome. The different color shoulders and the number font is also another great look. Aside from deciding to keep the copper helmet and having an all red helmet that could use a blue facemask instead of a red one, these jerseys are fantastic.

Miller: Roster turnover in college hoops 'incredible'

PHOENIX -- On the heels of news that sophomore forward Angelo Chol will transfer from Arizona, coach Sean Miller said Thursday that college basketball is in uncharted territory when it comes to roster turnover.

"The change is incredible, it really is, from one year to the next," Miller said during a stop on Arizona's "Road Tour" at Chase Field. "I don't believe it's (just) in the Pac-12, I don't think it's in the state of Arizona. I think it's really across the nation, where never have we ever seen this type of change before."

Chol was UA's second loss in as many weeks after freshman Grant Jerrett unexpectedly declared for the NBA Draft. Chol decided to leave in pursuit of more minutes or a starting role somewhere else after averaging 8.5 minutes per game in 28 games for the Wildcats last season. Jerrett could have transferred but decided to go pro instead of sitting out a season.

With Arizona's rise since Miller's arrival four years ago, mo

Chol leaving Arizona after sophomore season

Arizona forward Angelo Chol is transferring after seeing his minutes decline last season as a sophomore.

Chol has yet to decide which school to transfer to, according to the school.

A 6-foot-9 power forward, Chol was part of coach Sean Miller's stellar 2011 recruiting class and was a regular in the rotation as a freshman.

But Miller signed another top recruiting class before last season, one that included three of the top incoming big men, and Chol's minutes dropped.

Chol averaged 1.9 points in 28 games in 2012-13, playing 8.5 minutes per game.

Forward Grant Jerrett, part of Arizona's 2012 class, declared for the NBA draft last month.

Angelo Chol to transfer from Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. Arizona has lost its second frontcourt player in two weeks with the decision of sophomore foward Angelo Chol to transfer.

Chol, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound sophomore forward from San Diego, has not decided on where he will transfer. His decision comes two weeks after freshman Grant Jerrett declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft.

Chol, whose shot-blocking and hustle made him a fan favorite at McKale Center, averaged 1.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 8.5 minutes in 28 games this season. He was a relative newcomer to basketball who grew up in Sudan, and his offensive skills were unpolished. Even without Jerrett in the picture, there was some thought that he might redshirt next season in hopes of acquiring a larger role the following year.

After much consideration and several conversations with both Coach Sean Miller and my family, I have decided to transfer to another university, Chol said in a statement released by Arizona. I believe this change will put me in a better situation to earn more playin

Arizona spring review: Defense

TUCSON, Ariz. There are a few ways to look at Arizonas defense coming out of spring practice, but theres one undisputed one: Its got to get better.

It seemingly cant get any worse than it was last year, at least when it comes to numbers, because it was miserable. UA finished 105th nationally in scoring defense (35.3 points per game allowed) and 118th in total defense (499 yards per game allowed).

Of course, the Wildcats finished last in the Pac-12 in defense -- and still managed to finish 8-5 overall and win the New Mexico Bowl.

Imagine what they could have done with a decent defense.

In preparation for next season, it didnt help that, because of myriad injuries, UA was limited in spring ball. Accordingly, tackling wasnt a priority.

Some guys were playing before their time, Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez said after the annual spring game earlier this month. We dont do a lot of tackling in the spring because we are worried about injuries, but we (got injuries) anyway. We did OK. We were limited defensively

Arizona Football: Wildcats' Chris Putton ready to surprise a lot of people

Everyone with relative football knowledge knows that the offensive line is the heart and soul of the team—and the center is the anchor, making it arguably the most important position along the front.

Arizona senior lineman Chris Putton hasn’t played the position in years but is being asked to carry the torch from the departure of long-time starter Kyle Quinn.

“The transition has been a little rough, but I’m getting there,” said Putton during a phone interview last week. “I’ve played left guard and [other positions]. …I had already had a talk with coach [Rich Rodriguez] last year about moving to center.

“Whatever is best for the team—I don’t care where—I just want to play.”

Putton has spent most of his collegiate career as a guard, but saw limited action at center in the backup role as a freshman when then-starter Colin Baxter went down with an injury.

That was the first time Putton had ever shotgun snapped a ball in his life. Now he has to do it in live action for an o

Notre Dame transfer Neal picks Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona football team picked up some depth and help at wide receiver and special teams overnight although it was months in the making.

How soon it will impact the Wildcats' fortunes will soon be determined.

Davonte' Neal, who decided to transfer from Notre Dame recently, has committed to the Arizona Wildcats. Neal was Arizona's No. 1 recruiting target last year.

According to reports, Neal will apply to the NCAA for a hardship waiver, which, if approved, would make him eligible for play in 2013. Typically, a transfer must sit out a season before become eligible.

Neal, a 5-foot-9, 171-pound back from Phoenix Chaparral, chose Arizona over UCLA.

Arizona had been a finalist when Neal was in high school, but he chose Notre Dame in a decision that was not made until well after signing day and after an awkward moment at his former elementary school in Ahwatukee. Neal scheduled a press conference in front of a school assembly to announce his college choice, then failed to show whe

Morrison hopes to earn shot at cornerback

TUCSON, Ariz. Hes gone from quarterback to wide receiver to now being a cornerback.
