Ron Jaworski: Chip Kelly’s Offense Won’t Work in the NFL

One of the more interesting stories of the upcoming NFL season, is the arrival of Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Chip Kelly and his high-powered Oregon offense. Kelly’s offense in college was predicated on speed and pace. An offense that was known to work, and work extremely quickly will be relatively new to the NFL when [...]

Ron Jaworski Says Chip Kelly’s Oregon Offense Won’t Work In The NFL

New Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has made it clear that his offense can be a success in the NFL, even if he doesn’t run the same variation he used at Oregon.
Not everyone thinks Kelly’s offense will be a hit or a success. Ron Jaworski of course is a Philadelphia legend and studies film for a living working for ESPN.
Jaworski was a guest on 97.5 The Fanatic here in Philadelphia, and said that Kelly, who has no NFL experience at all, “is much more likely to adjust his offense to the realities of the NFL than to revolutionize the NFL by bringing his spread offense to the next level.”
When asked point-blank if the offense will work, Jaworski had no problem saying no.
“It’s easy to say, ‘Yeah, it worked in college,’” he said. “But then I looked at a game like Stanford. Stanford, a good defensive football team, shut them down. I hope it works. I like the innovation, but I think it’s going to be very difficult. The NFL is a different league with fast players that have all week

Philadelphia Chip

Fast. Loud. Chaotic.

As Oregon Duck fans, we all know that those words have been used to describe a Chip Kelly coached practice. Sports media outlets in Oregon have been obsessed with how many reps per hour the Ducks were able to run in practice for the past few years. That practice style led to abundant success at the college level.

Sitting in a Philadelphia hotel room this past weekend on business, it was almost like having deja vu. Except this time it was Comcast SportsNet Philly and Chip was wearing a green hat instead of a white visor. The local sports personalities were rambling off all of the catch phrases we have associated with Chip for years. They obsessed over the fact that "at one point, I saw 5 quarterbacks throwing at the same time. How could they possibly evaluate them all?"

Watching this transformation of Kelly becoming an NFL coach had me thinking that we do take things for granted as fans. Kelly did some truly innovative things with the...

It's Crunch Time For The Oregon State Beavers

It comes down to this. Civil War Series, baseball style.

This weekend the Oregon State Beavers (41-8 overall, 20-4 league) travel to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks (42-11, 19-5 respectively). With only a one game edge in the loss column, the Beavers need to keep their twelve game winning streak going to win the conference title. And a possible national seed for the NCAA Tournament. More on that later.

Fortunately, the Beavs took care of business last weekend down in Palo Alto, sweeping the Stanford Cardinal in a three game set. Furthermore, OSU improved to 21-5 on the road this year. If they ever needed the good fortunes of playing away from home, it will be this weekend. In the last two seasons, the home team has swept their opponent in the Civil War three game series.

Looking at last weekend, Stanford actually put up 11 runs in three games. Other than the debacle at Washington, that is the most runs scored against the Beavers in conference play for any weekend ma...

Beavers and Ducks put Pac-12 focus on Oregon

There's a certain civility to the Civil War baseball rivalry between Oregon and Oregon State.

Since the Ducks brought back baseball in 2009, the rivalry with the Beavers has been growing. But this season both teams are nationally ranked in the top 10 and sit 1-2 in the Pac-12 standings.

The outcome of this weekend's Civil War series between the two teams could lead to the league championship and have postseason implications.

Yet there's no trash talk between the Beavers and the Ducks. Oregon coach George Horton and Oregon State coach Pat Casey agree: This rivalry is really about respect.

Oregon Football Helmet VW Bug sells for $2600

This 1973 VW Bug turned Oregon Ducks football helmet unfortunately doesn’t run, but still should have cost the buyer more than $2,600. For some strange reason the Oregon Athletic Department decided to sell off this awesome helmet car, and did so without much fanfare.
According to the listing:
This car is currently for display purposes only as it currently does not operate and it has not been driven on roads. The item will need to be picked up from the University of Oregon athletic department.
It’s entirely plausible that the buyer is going to sink some more money to get this bad boy up and running and use it to drive to football games in Eugene next year. The football seat covers with the Nike logo are fantastic and so is the vanity license plate that says “QB” on it. Worst comes to worst if you can’t fix it up to drive it, it will make for an awesome display outside your house.

If You Don’t Like The Oregon Ducks, This Is Not Your Time

Every dog has his day, but the Oregon Ducks are in the midst of an unprecedented run of excellence, and if you’re not a fan, that day can’t end soon enough.

Nearly 20 years ago, Phil Knight had a vision for Oregon football, and his money, their effort, and a little good fortune was all they needed to turn that vision into a reality for a program in the infantile stages of a historic resurrection. Yet, no one could’ve thought that that money, that effort, and that good fortune would’ve put Oregon amongst the elite athletic departments in all the college game … and “haters” aren’t down.

Riding the wave of a half-decade’s worth of “elite” football status, the Ducks have not-so-quietly put themselves squarely in the middle of the NCAA’s cream of the crop. The last calendar year has included many success stories, including:

 A #2 ranking in football

A run to the “Sweet 16” for men’s hoops

A women’s cross country national championship

The Oregon Ducks Are Selling A Helmet Car, Hanging Out With Macklemore

I guess the Oregon Ducks have always been pretty weird. They were the first team on the ‘Gangnam Style’ parody video bandwagon, they promote via Ferris Bueller homage and their fans are prone to emotional breakdowns. But yeah, now they’re auctioning off a 1973 Oregon Ducks Volkswagen Bug for $2500, if you’re the kind of fan who wants to pay nearly three-grand for a car that doesn’t run and looks like an enormous football helmet. The skinny:A staple at Autzen Stadium for years, now is your chance to own this one of a kind 1973 VW Bug with an Oregon football helmet on top and CD player inside. Imagine parking this at your tailgate on gameday or bringing it to special events. The helmet is green with a yellow “O” and the Oregon license plate on this unique car is “QB” and registration expires 10/03/13.
Photo: Oregon Is Auctioning Off A 1973 VW Beetle “Helmet Car” With Nike Swoosh Seats

The Oregon Ducks are known for their new-age, flashy uniforms that often make their players look like they’re from the future. So it’s a little odd that the big item up for auction today from the school is actually a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle.
But it’s not just any old Beetle, it features a giant Oregon helmet on top and football-looking Nike “swoosh” seats. Really.
oregonauthentic.com oregonauthentic.com
Right now, the winning bid is at $2,500. Why so low? Well, for starters, the car doesn’t actually run, so it’s a project. Still, you know there are fans out there who will want this thing, it’s just a matter of time. The bidding ends tonight – get on it.

Have you ever wanted to own a helmet car? If so this is your chance thanks to the University of Oregon.
You can bid on this 1973 VW Bug with the Ducks helmet attached to the top. Why would you not want a car with seat covers that look like footballs? And you know it wouldn’t have that Oregon flare without Nike symbols all over it.
P.S. It doesn’t actually run, so I can’t figure if $2500 is a steal or not.

Unless you have been under a rock for the last four months, you have probably the heard the song "Thrift Shop" by Seattle-based rapper Macklemore.

Last weekend, Macklemore had a performance at the University of Oregon and during his performance of "Thrift Shop", the Oregon Duck mascot made an appearance at about the 6:34 mark of the clip.

The video isn't that great but you can tell that the Duck still has some smooth moves:

A decision has been reached in the NCAA's investigation of Will Lyles and the Oregon coaches, and Oregon fans are going to like the result.
Official statements should be in a few weeks or less. Until then, everything is off the record, and the Athletic Department can't comment publicly.
The Ducks will lose one or two scholarships for three years, have some restrictions on recruiting and be placed on probation for five years.
They'll avoid the hammer, penalties like a bowl ban, rescinded titles or vacated wins. Those "looming sanctions" will no longer loom so ominously.
Fans of other schools around the PAC-12 will be moaning that the Ducks got a slap on the wrist, but the ruling feels appropriate and reasonable. The investigation took so long that UO deserves some credit for time served.
For over two years, columnists and color analysts have pounded away with accusations and innuendo, dire predictions of the death penalty, the collapse of Oregon football,...

Oregon Ducks Boast Top Female Athletes

As the school year inches to a close and spring sports approach playoffs, it’s easy for University of Oregon students and fans to reflect on the markers of this year’s success. The football team won the Fiesta Bowl, volleyball was runner-up at the national championships, and the women dominated cross country and indoor track and field for two more national championship titles. Of course, trophies and championships aren’t the only ways to measure this year’s triumphs. Several individual athletes are worthy of recognition and have played a major part in the Ducks’ success. In fact, the women of Oregon especially have come to national prominence, and it seems safe to say that after this year, the Ducks boast some of the greatest female athletes in the country.
