Michigan State’s Torey Krug Scores Highlight-Reel Goal for Boston Bruins: Video

Former Michigan State Spartan Torey Krug has played two career NHL playoff games. And he’s scored in both.
Krug followed up his surprising goal in the Boston Bruins’ Game 1 win over the New York Rangers with an absolutely dazzling marker to open the scoring in Sunday’s Game 2. With the Bruins on the break, Krug handled a pass between his legs, controlled the puck and then fired one five-hole on Henrik Lundqvist.

Spartans In The NFL: Sims City, Setting Ghols(ton), And More Bad Puns

Greetings, Spartans faithful, Mr. and Mrs. America, and you, whoever you are. Not wanting to appear as though I am only ringing in the new season with regard to Le’Veon Bell, I thought it best to do a quick post on the rest of this year’s NFL rookie class with MSU origins. I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in.
Dion Sims:
Selected by the Dolphins in the fourth round(106), Sims is expected to push for playing time this season and at the very least should find work in double tight end sets. It appears as though Dion has shed a few pounds and is beginning his new venture with a positive attitude.
Will Gholston:
Selected by the Bucs in the fourth round(126), Big Will is slated as a backup for now but he landed on a decent team and his contract should go a long way toward taking care of his family.
Now we enter the realm of the UDFA’s…
Johnny Adams:
Johnny signed with the Texans shorty after the draft and as is the case with any player who is undrafted, he will have to f...

Spartan recruit's bad rap

There is one thing we know for sure about Pennsylvania high school football recruit Jay Harris: the three-star wide receiver won't be playing for Mark Dantonio at Michigan State this fall.

The why, however, is a little less clear.

On Tuesday, Harris made news when he told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he had chosen to walk away from his football career , which included a commitment to play for the Spartans, to pursue a career in the music business.

"I've always had this in the back of my head, but never had the courage to tell my parents that this is what I want to do," Harris told the paper. However, the Inquirer later reported that Harris didn't back out of his scholarship, but rather, was stripped of it after the school learned of a series of offensive rap videos Harris had posted to YouTube under the name "Jay DatBull."

Harris' most popular clip, a video for his song, "Datbull 4 Life," was posted two weeks ago had nearly 90,000 views as of this writing (W

3-Star Wide Receiver Recruit Gets Scholarship Stripped By MSU After Rap Video Emerge

Jay Harris will no longer be attending Michigan State University, and it seems that both parties are just fine with that decision. Harris, who is a three-star recruit, had posted nine rap videos on YouTube under the name “Jay DatBull” and each of them weren’t exactly ‘PG’ rated. Not surprisingly there was plenty of cursing and references to the usual hot button issues which Universities usually frown upon. The video you see above has Jay lighting up something at the beginning as well.
Harris had committed to Michigan State in February by signing a letter of intent to attend Michigan State, but as the videos emerged the offer was no longer on the table.
According to Philly.com, Harris said it was his decision to persue a rap career prior to the scholarship being revoked.
Harris, a senior wide receiver, said he freely chose a rap career over football. A Michigan State spokesman said it was “a mutual decision.”

Michigan State Recruit Bails on Commitment for Rap Career

This isn’t the first time that a recruit has bailed on a commitment to a school, but it is definitely the first time that a recruit has bailed in order to pursue a rap career.
Three-star wide receiver Jay Harris from Exton, PA, decided to bail on his commitment to the Michigan State Spartans in order to pursue his rap career. He goes by the name Jay DatBull and his first single is currently up on YouTube with more than 50,000 hits.
In an interview with Philly.com Harris said that he has a mixtape slated to be released on June 1st:
“I try to take advantage of every opportunity I get and for him to like my music and reach it to me, I really appreciated that,” Harris said.
Harris said his commitment to Michigan State last year was “halfhearted.” He said he first flirted with a career in music during his freshman year at Downingtown East.

Michigan State Football Commit “Jay DatBull” Backs Out To Pursue Career As Rapper

This has to be one of the strangest decommitments you’ll ever see in college sports. Jay Harris, a wide receiver from Exton, PA, was committed to the Michigan State Spartans since June 2012, but recently decided that his heart really wasn’t into playing college football. No, he wanted to pursue a career as a rap artist instead.
He goes by the name Jay DatBull in the rap game — below is one of his music videos. It has over 50,000 views already, but I’m not sure we can entirely support his decision on this one:

Report: Recruit foregoes Michigan State scholarship to pursue rap career

Jay Harris, a wide receiver from Downingtown East High School in Exton, Pa., is foregoing a football scholarship to pursue a rap career, Philly.com’s Matt Breen reports.
Harris is a senior and had 54 catches for 792 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He was listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals and Scout, but he says he had been thinking about his rap career for a while.
“I’ve been thinking about doing this for a couple of years now,” Harris told Philly.com. “I’ve always had this in the back of my head, but never had the courage to tell my parents that this is what I want to do.”
Harris also told Philly.com that his commitment to Michigan State was halfhearted. It’s probably a good thing he didn’t stick to it especially since he seems to have a strong dedication to weed, too:

But I roll Tha weed up… And I bake

Jay Harris Reportedly Backs Out of Michigan State Commitment to Pursue Rap Career

Yep, real headline.
Jay Harris, a three-star wide receiver recruit out of Exton, Pa., has opted to bail on a full-ride scholarship to play for Michigan State in order to pursue a rap career, Philly.com reported. Harris signed his letter of intent with the Spartans back in February and was expected to join the team this fall.
Harris said his commitment to Michigan State last year was “halfhearted.” He said he first flirted with a career in music during his freshman year at Downingtown East.
“I’ve always had this in the back of my head, but never had the courage to tell my parents that this is what I want to do,” Harris said.

Harris also received scholarship offers from Pittsburgh and Temple,
according to Rivals.com. ESPN.com ranked him as the 17th-best player in the state of Pennsylvania for the 2013 class.
And while this is a bit of a blow for MSU’s incoming freshman class, it’s hard to imagine anyone saw it coming.
The worst part is that Jay Harris’ HS, Downington East, is nowhere near West

Michigan State planning $20 million stadium upgrade

The college football arms race continues and this time it's the Spartans of Michigan State stepping up their game, at least according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.

In the report it's claimed that MSU will begin work later this summer on a $20 million dollar renovation of Spartan Stadium. Well, it's really more of an addition than a renovation if you ask us, but semantics, schemantics, right?

So, what will the new parts of Spartan Stadium include? According to the report it will have the following:

The plan calls for a two-level building at the north end of the stadium. On the first level will be locker rooms for both teams and coaches, a locker room for officials, an equipment room and a media center.

Now, if you know what game day is like for the media, officials, and players this is about the smartest move they could make. Us in the media get a lovely trip to a trailer for interviews, officials don't even have a locker room to speak of, and well

Screengrab Snafu: The Michigan State Fab Five

Examiner.com will never be confused with The New York Times or even CNN, and perhaps one could forgive the online outlet for the above snafu - a news story on the Fab Five being allowed to associate with Michigan State again. Yes, we all remember Chris Webber and Jalen Rose suiting up for Sparty.

Har har, good for a laugh right? But what if I told you that was only the beginning and the entire article written by Shaunee Flowers portrayed the end of the ten year disassociation period between Chris Webber... and Michigan State. Seriously. The post has naturally been corrected, but here's how the introduction read late last night:

"The NCAA forced dissociation between Michigan State and the Fab Five has officially ended on Wednesday, reports ABC News on May 8. The decade-long punishment has ended for Chris Webber, Maurice Taylor and Louis Bullock and they are now allowed to re-associate with the school.

It has been ten years now since the Fab Five's contr...

MSU's Payne staying for senior season

Michigan State's Adreian Payne has decided to stay in school, making the Spartans one of the teams to beat next season.

It also might make Payne a top-10 pick next year.

The announcement was made Sunday just hours before the deadline for underclassmen to enter the NBA draft.

Payne averaged 10.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks as a junior last season. He produced more in each category in the NCAA tournament.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward added a 3-point shot last season. He made 16 of 42 after connecting one of two 3-pointers during his first two years with the Spartans.

Big Ten freshman of the year Gary Harris announced last week he was staying at Michigan State for his sophomore season.

Michigan State statue painted with Michigan logo and colors (Picture)

There is no offseason when it comes to rivalries. An anonymous Michigan fan or group of Michigan fans proved that early Saturday morning when Michigan State’s Spartan statue was left tagged with a Michigan logo and Wolverine colors.
Hahahaha look what happened to sparty #HAIL #GOBLUE #VICTORS twitter.com/Haggerty70/sta…
— Buzz Schneider (@Haggerty70) April 20, 2013

For those who are wondering if there’s a point behind this, I don’t think there really is. The Spartans held their annual inter-squad spring game on Saturday, but that doesn’t have anything to do with their biggest rival.
According to MLive.com, the statue was cleaned up by Saturday afternoon. This is the second time in less than a month that Michigan State’s statue has been targeted. Last month during the NCAA Tournament, the Spartans statue was decorated with Valparaiso gear. Were Michigan State fans responsible for both acts of vandalism? I certainly wouldn’t doubt it.
