Montana hoops lands Washington transfer

Montana men's basketball coach Wayne Tinkle has announced the signing of 6-foot-8 forward Martin Breunig (BROY'-nig), who is transferring from the University of Washington.

Breunig, who is originally from Germany, will sit out next year due to NCAA transfer rules.

Breunig played in 21 games as a freshman at Washington, but saw action in just nine games and scored one point as a sophomore. He competed on the German Under 18 national team at the FIBA European Championships in Lithuania in 2010.

Predicting the 2013/14 Washington Huskies basketball starting five

Projected starters for next season.
In-between transfers, graduates, and incoming recruits, University of Washington Men’s basketball’s starting squad next year is up in the air.
Here’s the most likely starting five for next year, with the potential challenger at each position.
Point Guard
Starter: Andrew Andrews
Challenger: Nigel Williams-Goss

This was a tough pick, but redshirt sophomore Andrew Andrews gets the nod over incoming freshman Nigel Williams-Goss.
After a redshirt year, Andrews put up around eight points, two assists and three rebounds in around 25 minutes a game in 2012-2013. The Oregon product has a tight handle and is cat-quick.
Williams-Goss is the highest profile recruit Washington is bringing in, and he will see major minute; but I think it is unlikely Lorenzo Romar starts a true freshman at point guard over a returner.
Williams-Goss has size, smarts and scoring ability. He is a high-character

First Round NFL Draft Grades: Atlanta Falcons

PICK: Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington

ANALYSIS: Atlanta had been rumored to be wanting to move up for someone, and Trufant was one of the names commonly tossed around in that discussion. Atlanta certainly needed a corner, and Trufant was the best CB on the board. They were smart to jump Minnesota and Indy to grab him. I'm still surprised St. Louis traded down instead of grabbing Ogletree though. Either way, solid pick for Atlanta. Unfortunetely, the DE position is really going to suffer for this, which is why this grade can't get anything higher than a B.

Falcons Select Washington CB Desmond Trufant (Rd.1, No.22)

With the 22nd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Falcons select Washington CB Desmond Trufant. A four-year starter, Trufant earned his way onto the field as a true freshman in 2009 and showed steady progression over his career. He set career-bests in 2011 as a junior with a pair of interceptions and 16 passes defended, but decided to return for his senior year. Although his senior stats weren't as impressive (1 interception, 9 passes defended), teams mostly stayed away from Trufant's side of the field as he was easily the top defender on the Huskies' roster. While he needs to refine his technique and is far from a polished product, there is no question he has the fluidity and competitiveness to fight for a spot in the first round.

Like other Huskies before him, Desmond Trufant had a chance to check out the Green Room at Radio City Music Hall in New York City but decided to be with his family in Tacoma instead Thursday as his 2013 NFL Draft fate is expected to be revealed. Will he be taken by a team in the first round tonight? Or will he have to wait 24 more hours to find out his professional future?

C.J. Wilcox to return to Washington

Washington leading scorer C.J. Wilcox has bypassed a chance to enter the NBA draft and will return for his senior season.

The school made the announcement on Thursday. Many draft projections had Wilcox being taken in the second round.

Wilcox led the Huskies averaging 16.8 points per game, good for sixth in the Pac-12. He was a second-team all-Pac-12 selection and played most of the conference season while battling a foot injury. He topped 20 points in 14 games and was the Huskies' leading scorer in 22 of their 34 games.

Wilcox's return means the Huskies will lose only three starters off their squad that went 18-16 and lost in the first-round of the NIT to BYU.

Washington adds pair to 2013-14 recruiting class

Washington has added high school guard Jahmel Taylor and junior college transfer Mike Anderson after they signed their national letters of intent to play basketball for the Huskies.

Washington coach Lorenzo Romar announced the signings on Wednesday. The two join an incoming class that includes McDonald's All-American Nigel Williams-Goss, Darin Johnson and college transfers Perris Blackwell and Gilles Dierickx.

Taylor, a 5-foot-11 guard, helped lead Pacific Hills High in West Hollywood, Calif., to the California Division IV state title. He averaged 22.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists this past season.

Anderson played last season at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri. He was ranked as one of the top 50 junior college prospects in the country and averaged 17.2 points and 10 rebounds last season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins suspended indefinitely

Washington lays down the law with ASJ
It may be time to get worried Husky nation.
As reported by The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta, the Huskies announced Wednesday that star tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins will be suspended indefinitely in the wake of his DUI arrest over the weekend.
ASJ was charged with a DUI Saturday night after getting into a one-car accident in which he suffered minor injuries. The 20-year-old was reportedly placed on a back board with a neck brace, but received nothing more than a “bloody nose.”
Per Condotta’s report, Seferian-Jenkins’ time away from the team has nothing to do with the injuries sustained, and is purely a suspension until the police finish their investigation into the incident.

UW’s code of conduct is very clear on these matters, stating a player must be suspended until the necessary investigation has concluded. After that, the team is free to try and lift the suspension.

Washington set to start spring with focus on QB

Washington will begin its earliest spring practice under Steve Sarkisian on Tuesday and at the top of the agenda is getting Keith Price back to being the quarterback he was two years ago and not the inconsistent player he was in 2012.

Price threw 19 touchdowns against 13 interceptions last season as a junior when the Huskies went 7-6. It was part of a significant drop in Washington's passing game from Price's sophomore season when he set a school record with 33 touchdown passes.

Everything during spring ball will be structured for Price, who has a glut of talented young quarterbacks behind him, led by Cyler Miles, Jeff Lindquist and early-enrollee Troy Williams. While getting time for the youngsters is important, getting Price back to top form is the priority.

Washington Huskies breaking news Shawn Kemp Jr. out 6-8 weeks

Dawgs front court takes a blow
Head coach Lorenzo Romar announced today that UW Huskies forward Shawn Kemp Jr. will be out for the next 6-8 weeks, due to a tear in his patellar tendon.
The injury won’t require surgery.
This is not a great way to kick off the upcoming season. Kemp—who plays power forward—was seen as a possible breakout candidate for 2012.
Not to mention, the Huskies front court is already thin.
Washington’s roster is filled with veterans, including two seniors at the guard positions, as well as senior center Aziz N’diaye.

The Huskies thinnest position is forward, where no one stands higher than a sophomore.
Entering his second year with Washington, Kemp was expected to take that starters role and run with it. Now it’s unknown when he’ll return, let alone what kind of shape he’ll be in.
The sophomore played limited minutes as a freshman in 2011-12, averaging just 6.5 per game. But it didn’t stop Kemp
