Woodson leaves Tide for S. Alabama

Former Alabama receiver Danny Woodson is transferring to South Alabama.

Woodson, who grew up in Mobile, played in six games and had one catch as a redshirt freshman for the Crimson Tide in 2012.

He will have to sit out this coming season because of NCAA rules and will have two years of eligibility left.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Woodson was suspended for a violation of team rules at Alabama during the spring and did not participate in offseason workouts with the team.

Last season was South Alabama's first as a member of FBS, competing in the Sun Belt Conference.

Tide Opens SEC Tourney Vs. Auburn

Alabama had all it could handle last weekend as the Crimson Tide baseball team was in Nashville to take on No. 1 Vanderbilt. It was no surprise that the Commodores took the series. What was a surprise is that Bama won one game and played Vandy very close in the other two.

Alabama Auctions Off Broken 2012 BCS Championship Trophy for $105K (Photo)

Given Alabama’s college football success in recent years, what’s one broken BCS championship trophy?
Last year, the father of Crimson Tide long snapper Carson Tinker actually broke the Crimson Tide’s reward for its first place BCS ranking in 2011, knocking over the table on which the crystal football sat. The university ordered a replacement for $30,000, no hard feelings were harbored and everyone went on their merry way.
But whatever happened to the broken pieces of the original trophy?
On Sunday, the shattered trophy surfaced, put up for auction during the school’s annual celebrity golf tournament, according to longtime Alabama football beat writer Cecil Hurt. Moreover, it ended up fetching $105,000, a good $75,000 more than a new, intact trophy would run.
Check out an image of the broken trophy and auction setup below.

Broken 'Bama BCS Trophy sells for $105K

At the Alabama Crimson Tide Celebrity Golf Tournament on Sunday, the Crimson Tide auctioned off the broken 2011 BCS Championship Crystal Ball Trophy. Last April, the trophy had been accidentally broken and it was reportedly valued at $30,000. On Sunday, the trophy was auctioned off for more than three times that much and went for a whopping $105,000. That’s an obscene amount of money for a broken trophy. Maybe next time they should auction off one that isn’t broken and see how much they could get for it.
Broken 2011 BCS National Championship Trophy Sells For Over 3 Times What It Was Originally Worth

For those who don’t remember, Alabama’s 2011 BCS National Championship trophy was accidentally shattered after the father of one of the players on the Crimson Tide tripped and knocked it over last April. Yesterday, however, those shattered remains proved to be worth way more than anyone could have imagined.
The trophy, originally valued at $30,000, was sold at Alabama’s celebrity golf tournament for $105,000.

Alabama auctions off the broken 2011 BCS Champonship Trophy at its UA Celebrity Golf Tournament on Sunday. It brought a reported $105,000.

UGA president Dr. Michael Adams.

What is retiring University of Georgia president Dr. Evil Michael Adams biggest regret when it comes to his role in interfering with shaping the UGA athletic program in his administration?

Is it hiring Jim Harrick Sr. as men's basketball coach, which ended in a big academic scandal? No.

Is it his firing of the legendary Vince Dooley as the school's longtime athletic director? No.

Is it that there are more than a few UGA supporters that probably hate him even more than they hate Steve Spurrier or Nick Saban? No.

No, Adams says his biggest regret is something that happened on the football field, and which he had no actual control over.

“I don’t have many regrets,” Adams said during an interview in his north
campus office in his final weeks as president before his retirement on

Items in Nick Saban's Alabama Sports Hall of Fame display case. Via: al.com.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday. This is a pretty impressive achievement considering that he's only been a citizen of the state since 2007. A display honoring his forthcoming membership includes various Saban memorabilia, including a box of his favorite snack, Little Debbie Oatmeal Pies.

"The items that promise to draw the attention of the most visitors are
those donated by Nick Saban. They include the straw hat he wore at
practice during the 2009 season, a box of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme
Pies and the game plan from the 2009 Florida International game."

Saban will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, alongside other Alabama sports notables, including NFL football legend Eric Davis, and Olympians Dannette Young Stone and Vickie Orr.

Nick Saban On Being Called The Devil: “It’s Terribly Disappointing”

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban responded Thursday to comments made by his former assistant coach and current Florida Gators assistant coach Tim Davis.
Davis earlier in the week, called Saban “the devil himself,” during an event with Florida boosters. It’s the second time in less than six months that an SEC coach has called Saban Satan.
Four months ago Vanderbilt head coach Vanderbilt coach James Franklin referred to Saban as “Nicky Satan” during a high school sports banquet.
Saban himself is not pleased whatsoever, and called it “terribly disappointing,” according to AL.com.
“It really is a little terribly disappointing,” he said Thursday in response to comments made by Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis.
Saban expressed his feelings to the media before a Crimson Caravan stop at Turner Field.
“I try to do right by the people that work for me,” he said. “It’s a tough, demanding job. And at the same time, if anybody had an issue or problem with me, I would want them to

Nick Saban gives recruits 111 reason to commit to Alabama via awesome recruiting poster.

Alabama has been sending out the above poster of the football jerseys of players who played for Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban during his career as an HC that went on to be selected in the NFL Draft. "That includes 33 players drafted in his 6 years at the University of Alabama," the poster notes.

Saban also signed the poster, adding "The process begins her."

Not only is this poster a powerful piece of recruiting , it a pretty darn good looking one as well. This is the kind of thing you'd want to have framed and put on the wall even if you decided to go to another school. It's also something a lot of regular Alabama fans (and even non-Bama fans) would probably die to have as well.

Saban sends potential recruits persuasive pic

Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban has been sending out this photo of prospects that he recruited or coached that ended up in the NFL. Personally, I think it should just be a list of players that he coached that went drafted (which would still be a long list). Sure, showing which players he recruited shows that he can identify talent, but it only makes me think of the fact that he didn’t close those players for whatever reason. Regardless of that, it’s an extremely impressive list and having 33 players drafted out of Alabama the last six years is ridiculous. [@TylerSiskey]

Florida Assistant Tim Davis Referred To Nick Saban As “The Devil Himself”

Alabama football coach Nick Saban apparently can’t catch a break from being referred to as the devil.
First, it was Vanderbilt coach, James Franklin, who called Saban “Nicky Satan”. Now, four months after that incident, Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis referred to Saban as “the devil himself” while speaking in front of Florida boosters. For reference, Davis coached under Saban for three years.
But it looks like Davis is getting his words handed back to him. Mark May of ESPN reportedly called Davis a backstabbing coward on live television.

Mark May just called #Florida OL coach Tim Davis a “Classless, backstabbing coward” on CFB Live for his “Devil Himself” crack at Nick Saban.

Florida O-line coach refers to Nick Saban as the devil

This petty nonsense turning into "national offseason news" must be getting old for Nick Saban.

A week after responding to Bob Stoops' dismissal of the SEC's dominance, the Alabama coach will once again have to take time away from counting his four BCS titles to respond to a coach's quote at least this time the story will stay within his own conference.

This time, at a recent booster club function, Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis referred to Saban as the devil. Davis, who coached under Saban in stints with the Miami Dolphins (2005-06) and at Alabama (2008), now works under Saban protege Will Muschamp in Gainesville, a job he perhaps jokingly said he likes much more.

"I've always wanted to work with Will," Davis said. "Will's got a plan. Will coached under the devil himself for seven years. I only did three. He did seven. And his DNA is not any different than Nick."

The incident is not the first of the offseason, of course.

Alabama’s McCarron Has a Shot at Becoming College Football’s G.O.A.T.

There are plenty of names in the conversation: Archie Griffin, Tim Tebow, Roger Stabauch, Barry Sanders and Hershel Walker to name a few. Nobody, however, can step forward and definitively name one player as the single greatest player in college football history, which make it a great conversation.
Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron has a serious shot of inserting himself into that conversation in 2013. I’d argue that nobody in the history of the game has been quieter in getting themselves into the discussion, as names like Bridgewater, Manziel and Clowney have dominated most of the preseason Heisman conversation to this point.
In McCarron’s two seasons as a starter for the Alabama Crimson Tide, he has thrown for 5,567 yards, 46 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. During that time he has also amassed a record of 25-2 with two BCS Championships.
Alabama Football Players Get Diamond-Encrusted Rings to Celebrate Third Championship in Four Years (Photos)

It’s a good time to be an Alabama football player.
With this year’s victory over Notre Dame, Alabama marked the third time in four years that it is the national champion.
Crimson Tide players got rings commemorating the occasion this week. Aside from the usual diamond-encrusted look, the rings also have three tiny footballs on their face — marking the 2009, 2011 and 2012 championships.
Check out the rings in the photos below.

Bling Bling: Alabama Unveils BCS Championship Rings

In what seems to be an annual event, the Crimson Tide were presented their “bling” in the form of yet another BCS National Championship ring. The version this year? Well, flashy is a bit of an understatement.
Cornerback Daniel Geddes posted a few pictures of his ring on Facebook.
Clearly, the 15th National Championship ring is as beautiful as it gets. @UofAEquipment tweeted this picture last year comparing the 2009 and the 2011 National Championship rings to this year’s model.

As the number of National Championships grows, so do the rings. This year’s seems to mirror the immense amount of Crystal hardware displayed on campus. Also, there are so many diamonds on this ring (or cubic zirconia due to NCAA restrictions) that it is borderline blinding, but classic just like the program’s uniforms.

Alabama Crimson Tide gets awesome National Championship rings

The Alabama Crimson Tide have won three of the last four college football National Championships and it is safe to say that they’ve earned these extravagant rings.
The rings have three crystal footballs on top to symbolize the three BCS National Championships they have won the last four years, the score from the National Championship game and their record on the side, and then “Champions” around the top of the ring, along with some crimson jewels. But, the script A filled in with diamonds with a crimson outline is easily the best part of this ring.
Whoever designed this ring has some great taste and it will certainly be another fantastic recruiting tool for the Crimson Tide.

It does not take an expert to pick that Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide will win the national title in 2013-14.
Christion Jones has been mentioned as a kid that could do a lot for Alabama this year.
The only problem is that most people don’t know what side of the ball that he will be playing on.
This video throws around a few other names that could enter the conversation.

Nick Saban Auctions $10.95 Million Home Because Family Has Another House Next to Same Lake (Photos)

Nick Saban coaches Alabama, so maybe that’s why he would want to get rid of a home in Georgia.
But no — the coach of the reigning college football champs says the real reason he’s dumping the 9,600-square-foot, six-bedroom, $10.95 million monstrosity at 112 Whipporwill Lane in Clayton, Ga., is simply because his family has another home on Lake Burton. Two would just be too much.
“My family and I own another home on the lake,” Saban said in a statement, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. “… Lake Burton is our favorite getaway. It’s a beautiful, hidden gem, where we find great peace and seclusion.”
The home in the North Georgian mountains, which sits on a 1.7-acre plot, is now going to the highest bidder in an auction scheduled for June 6. While photos of the home do not reveal any college football paraphernalia, they do show that whoever put this place together wasn’t joking around. With “natural local stone” and “reclaimed timber beams” as well as custom fireplaces and ot
