Remember Reuben Foster, The Alabama Commit With The Auburn Tattoo? Here’s How He Fixed That…

Surely you remember Reuben Foster, the highly sought-after five-star linebacker recruit who, despite having a giant Auburn tattoo, ultimately chose to play football at Alabama. Well, he’s decided to do something about the controversial ink – and it actually works.
Foster’s cousin, Ladarious Phillips, who played for the Tigers, was shot and killed in June of 2012. As such, Foster has turned his tattoo into a tribute to his fallen relative.

Here’s a closer look at what Reuben Foster’s Auburn tattoo has become: a tribute to a fallen family member. twitter.com/AlexS_ESPN/sta…

Five-star linebacker recruit Reuben Foster may have officially committed to Alabama back in February when he dressed as Nick Saban on signing day, but he is keeping his famous Auburn tattoo. Rather than going through the expensive and painful process of having it removed, Foster has had some additional work done to turn the ink into a tribute to his cousin Ladarious Phillips. Here’s a closer look at what Reuben Foster’s Auburn tattoo has become: a tribute to a fallen family member. twitter.com/AlexS_ESPN/sta… — Alex Scarborough (@AlexS_ESPN) May 1, 2013 Phillips, a former Auburn fullback, was shot and killed last year a month after Foster changed his commitment from Alabama to Auburn and got a tattoo on his right forearm to prove it. Foster says one of the reasons he wanted to play for the Tigers was so he could play with his cousin. He later flipped back to Alabama but insisted he would be keeping the tattoo.
Trooper Taylor returns to the sidelines... at Auburn High School

Normally, having your dad named to an assistant coach’s position on your high school football team qualifies as #ThatAwkwardMoment that no teenager wants any part of. Then again, there is nothing normal about Blaise Taylor’s father.

No, no, Blaise Taylor’s father is none other than college football’s pre-eminent towel-waver and chest-bumper Trooper Taylor, the former Auburn assistant head coach, wide receivers coach and resident all-around awesome dude. And on Tuesday, Trooper Taylor announced he would sit out of college football during the 2013 season, and instead take his towel-waving talents to an assistant’s role at Auburn High School instead.

The news was first reported by Atlanta-area sports personality Christine Chambers.

The news is a total game-changer for Auburn High School, because, well, why else would Crystal Ball Run be writing about them today? Instead, they’ve now got a man roaming their sidelines with coaching experience at Tennessee, Oklahoma State a...

Crushing hit gets Auburn DB booted

In the world of college football, it's often hard to justify calling a school's "spring game" a game at all, and more often than not, the scrimmages amount to little more than glorified open practices.

So, needless to say, it's virtually impossible to get ejected from one, regardless of what you do.

But after absolutely obliterating his own teammate with a hit in Auburn's spring game on Saturday, Tigers junior cornerback Jonathon Mincy forever cemented his status as the exception to that rule.

In the third quarter of the Tigers' A-Day scrimmage in front of a school-record 83,401 fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium, Mincy leveled defenseless backup receiver Dimitri Reese on a screen pass, earning a 15-yard penalty and an ejection for targeting Reese above the shoulders.

You can see the hit in the video below:

Though the ejection may have seemed harsh, the referees were just following the rules. Targeting fouls, by rule, will lead to an automatic ejection under a new directive impleme

Auburn’s Jonathon Mincy Ejected From Spring Game For Illegal Hit on Teammate (Video)

Jonathon Mincy is a good football player, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good teammate.
During Auburn’s spring game, Mincy slipped through receiver Dimitri Reese‘s blockers on a screen and lit him up with a devastating blow. Moncy was flagged 15 yards for targeting the receiver above the shoulders, which leads to an automatic ejection.
That’s right, a player was ejected in a spring game, for laying an illegal hit upon his own teammate.
Check it out below.

Auburn DB ejected for nasty spring game hit

I don’t think I have ever heard of a player getting ejected from their school’s spring game, but that streak is over now. In a bizarre and irresponsible move Auburn defensive back Jonathon Mincy managed to get himself thrown out of Auburn’s A-Day game for an illegal hit on a teammate. Mincy apparently didn’t receive the memo that teams are supposed to not try and injure teammates and he launched what appeared to be a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit on wide receiver Dimitri Reese. Reese was left on the ground in serious pain for a few minutes before managing to get up with a little help from the Auburn trainers. Mincy was officially ejected for ‘targeting.’ Targeting is a new NCAA enacted rule for 2013 which will eject any player who is flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit. The video replay showed that the hit wasn’t as bad as it looked and could have been overturned if it was reviewed, but it doesn’t change the fact that teammate on teammate violence shouldn’t be happening in this ...

Chizik: Not bitter; mum on plans

Gene Chizik isn't bitter about getting fired by Auburn and still believes he can be a successful head coach. Beyond that, he is coy about his future coaching plans.

Chizik shed little light Monday on when he hopes to get back in coaching, or whether the former defensive coordinator would be willing to go back to being an assistant. He worked for ESPN on national signing day and said he's been consulting defensively with some teams.

He has mostly stayed out of the public eye for the past five months. Chizik can be afford to be choosy about his next job since he received a $7.5 million buyout after his November firing, paid in monthly installments.

''I can't pigeonhole myself whether I want to be this, this or this,'' Chizik said. ''I'm very confident in my abilities, both as a head coach and as a defensive coordinator, absolutely.''

Auburn Breaks Spring Football Game Attendance Record

Auburn’s fans really like their football team, how much? So much that 83,401 of them showed up to watch the Tigers’ A-Day game Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The A-game is Auburn’s Spring game and the attendance number smashed the previous record which was set at 63,217 by a certain Cam Newton and team. Tickets were originally $5, but in order to get folks in the stadium at a better pace the floodgates were opened for free, so to speak.

Eubanks: Allegations cast pall over Auburn

Auburn's spring game kicks off on Saturday (2 p.m. EST). And while Gus Malzahn's no-huddle offense will, indeed, take the field with battles at quarterback, receiver and tailback expected, the defense should garner the most attention.

Not the 11 guys lining on the defensive side of the football, but the defense the entire institution uses as Auburn once again tries to beat back accusations of scandal.

In the three weeks since Selena Roberts wrote her now-famous piece, alleging that Auburn players from the 2010 National Championship team were paid cash from coaches and had grades changed in order to remain eligible, the institution has gone into virtual lockdown on the subject.

The day after the story broke, with most of the named sourcing coming from former players facing charges of armed robbery, Auburn athletics direct Jay Jacobs released a statement that read:

So, most football fans south of the Ohio have been caught up in the implications swirling after a scathing report claimed all kinds of improprieties surrounding the Auburn Tigers football team.

The report on a "new" website, run by a former New York Times reporter and Auburn alum quoted multiple football players accusing the school of paying players, fixing grades and essentially institutional racism.

We voiced our thoughts on that story by Serena Roberts on Roopstigo.com earlier today.

You can read the original story by Roberts, RIGHT HERE

There were many accusations in Roberts story, including that the school protected multiple players who failed drug tests before the 2010 National Championship game.

And today (Friday) comes a follow up story by ESPN's "Outside the Lines" explaining how the school kept drug tests confidential and was fully aware of multiple players using synthetic marijuana and did nothing about it.

Ex-Tiger alleges major violations by Auburn

Serious allegations have been levied against Auburn in an article on ex-Tiger safety Mike McNeil.

The piece, which appears on former "New York Times" and "Sports Illustrated" staffer Selena Roberts' site, Roopstigo.com, details claims of academic fraud, payments to players, recruiting violations and failed drug tests among the Tigers.

But one of the biggest bombshells are that then-Auburn defensive coordinator and current Florida coach Will Muschamp tried to give McNeil 400. Here's the excerpt.

McNeil recalls having a difficult day at practice in 2007 and then-defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp, calling him into his office. McNeil recalls having a difficult day at practice in 2007 and then-defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp, calling him into his office. "I had no clue what it was about because Id never directly asked him for anything," says McNeil. "He slid about 400 over to me. He went into a drawer and gave me money and said, Is this enough? Is this good? An

Marshall Henderson taunts the Auburn Student Section

This is an absolutely fantastic GIF. After hitting two free throws to give Ole Miss the win over Auburn, Marshall Henderson went over to the Auburn Tigers student section and taunted them in an epic fashion. The reaction from the students was absolutely priceless, because most of them were completely incensed, yet, a few of them can be seen smirking as if they enjoyed it or thought it was funny. Even the old man sitting courtside had enough and said a few choice words to Henderson. Needless to say, Henderson didn’t make any friends at Auburn.[College Basketball Talk]

Auburn preparing to fire Gene Chizik?

For the last few weeks there seems to have been little doubt that Gene Chizik will be fired as head coach of the Auburn football team. On Wednesday a report surfaced that the beginning stages of the process may have already begun. The reports came via a paid link on the 247Sports.com Auburn affiliate, AuburnUndercover.com, and indicated that Auburn president Jay Gogue has informed the school’s board of trustees that while no decisions have officially been made, Gogue is in the process of putting together a committee, in the event that Chizik were to be fired at the end of the season and that a replacement needed to be named. The Auburn Undercover report also indicated that athletic director Jay Jacobs (who has come under quite a bit of fire himself over these last few years) would remain in his position, but that executive associate athletic director Tim Jackson would be reassigned within the program. If it were true, and if Chizik were eventually fired, it would mark on...
