Marshall Henderson Keeps On Firing: Trolls The Big Ten On Twitter

I think if I could only follow a single account on Twitter, I just might go with Marshall Henderson’s. When we named him to our “40 Twitter Accounts You Need To Be Following” list, we probably should have stressed need just a bit more.
Just last week he was making fun of the Tennessee Volunteers football program for having low APR scores, but today he set his sights higher: he decided to troll an entire conference. He fired this beauty off on Twitter tonight:

this is how i look at it ….. SEC > BIG 10 ALL DAY, EVERYDAY
— marshall henderson (@NativeFlash22) June 18, 2013
Of course, if Marshall is talking about basketball, he’s dead wrong. Not only is the SEC mediocre at basketball, but the Big Ten is actually pretty good — in 2012-13 it was arguably the strongest conference. If he’s talking about football, yes, the SEC reigns over everyone else.
Either way, this was a clinic in trolling — another great tweet, Mr. Henderson.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones pimps recycling while taping commercial.

Tennessee football's twitter account posted the following Vine video of first Volunteers head football coach Butch Jones taping a commercial for Eastman & Good Sports. There is apparently an angle involved with this ad involving recycling, as Jones stands near a recycling bin labeled "Good sports always recycle," and is seen tossing a plastic bottle behind his back. I'm just going the bottle is going to magically wind up in the second recycling bin seen in the background.

A sneak peek of the commercial with @UTCoachJones for #Recycling https://t.co/rBExOKAFDj

There's a Tyler Bray joke around here somewhere. Jones probably would have better accuracy with the bottle hitting its target than the former Tennessee star quarterback would anyway.

Tennessee Volunteers Should Be An Angry Football Team In 2013

Tennessee fans have been a more humble bunch recently. It's difficult to be uppity when your team hasn't had a winning season since its 2008 limp to a 7-6 finish under Lane Kiffin and co. Still, what is getting some Vol fans collective dander up is how the rest of the world seems convinced this is the new normal for UT football. This season's college football preview magazines rate the Vols at number 46 and 54 nationally, on the first two editions published. It is a safe bet the other publications will follow up with predictions much the same. We UT fans take pride in being in the top 10 in all time wins, all time bowl wins, second in all time SEC titles, six credible national titles, etc., etc. But step outside our little circle into the rest of the world and UT has quickly become an after-thought. Reading the articles and listening to talk radio, the pervasive theme is the Volunteers are no longer top shelf. Of course that's true for now. But, the impression I get ...

The most improved college football teams

Tennessee Volunteers (1-7/5-7) The Vols, in the 2012 season, tried to win games by throwing the football with Tyler Bray. The Volunteers lost quarterback Tyler Bray, wide receivers Cordarrelle Patterson, and Justin Hunter. The past will prove this is a good situation for the Vols.Learn from your past: In 1998, Tennessee won a title with the rushing game of Travis Henry and Jamal Lewis-not the passing game of Tee Martin. In 2001 and 2004, the Vols made SEC Championships with the running game. Travis Stephens led the way in 2001. Gerald Riggs and Cedric Houston took charge in 2004.Now, it's time the Vols improve with 2013 running backs, Rajion Neal and Marlin Lane. This running game, along with the defense going back to the 4-3, will help the defense by keeping the opposing teams' offense off the field.Tennessee could surprise some teams at home like Georgia and South Carolina, while scaring Alabama and Florida on the road.I see the Volunteers going from no bowl, last year, to t...

Tennessee RB Marlin Lane back with team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee running back Marlin Lane is back with the team after missing much of spring practice for disciplinary reasons.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones confirmed to The Associated Press on Sunday morning that Lane has been reinstated. The Knoxville News-Sentinel and Chattanooga Times Free Press had reported that Jones said during a Friday night appearance in Cleveland, Tenn., that Lane was working out with the team again.

Lane missed the last four spring practice sessions along with the Orange & White Game for disciplinary reasons.

The Volunteers are counting on Lane and Rajion Neal to lead their running game this season. Lane rushed for 658 yards and two touchdowns on 120 carries last season. Neal ran for 708 yards and five touchdowns on 156 carries.

Photo: Volunteers Fan Gets Tattoo To Show He Literally “Bleeds” Tennessee

We’ve got another terrible college sports tattoo, this time from a Tennessee Volunteers fan.
Someone on Twitter posted the below photo, which he later claimed was not of himself (not that it really matters), showing a tattoo with a UT logo literally “bleeding” out of a man’s arm. There is also some “exposed” muscle behind the logo.

@brentdougherty @claytravisbgid @3hl1045 What do you guys think of my new tat? twitter.com/Mondelli85/sta…
— Frank Mondelli Jr.(@Mondelli85) June 1, 2013
Personally, I don’t really think it gets the point across. The “T” isn’t orange (I understand why…), but that means it isn’t really obvious what’s going on here. And when you have to explain the concept of your tattoo to someone, it’s probably not worth getting – especially if the point of the tattoo is to openly show your allegiance.
Tattoo fail.

Bruce Pearl's son does radio ad mocking "backyard barbeque" incident that led to his dad's firing from Tennessee.

Steven Pearl, former Tennessee basketball player and son of disgraced former Vols' men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl, is currently a sports radio personality for Tennessee Sports Radio. This of course means that he does a ad for the radio or two. So when Pearl does an ad for legendary Knoxville barbeque joint Calhoun's, you can't help to recall the scandal involving a backyard barbecue for recruits than brought his father's firing.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the ad jokingly references the event as well when shilling for Calhoun's "Family Feed Packs" for backyard barbeques , including having a rule about "absolutely no photography," and a notice that "offer not available to Aaron Craft."

This may be one of the greatest mockings of NCAA rules violations ever.

Scandal brewing at Tennessee?

The University of Tennessee has reportedly fired its director of student judicial affairs amid an investigation as to whether the woman engaged in inappropriate relationships with Volunteers student-athletes.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel , Jenny Wright attempted to resign from her position last Thursday, rather than cooperate with the school's investigation, but the school refused to approve her resignation. Instead, the report says, they called her in for a meeting Monday and fired her after she failed to show.

Wright has already deleted her Facebook and Twitter accounts, and her position is listed as vacant on the school website.

The school declined to name which athlete or athletes Wright may have been involved with, or the nature of the relationships, but according to Knoxville radio host Jimmy Hyams (via Outkick The Coverage ), one of them may have been rather well known.

Wright was being investigation into whether she had inappropriate relations with student-athletes. One of those at

Report: Tennessee Employee Fired For Affair With Former Vols PG Trae Golden

This may not be on the lines of Bobby Petrino, but reports are surfacing that the misdeeds are just as juicy. According to The Sports Animal 99 of WNML-FM, Jenny Wright, the director of the office of student judicial affairs, has reportedly been fired for failure to cooperate with a UT investigation into whether she had inappropriate relations with student-athletes.
One of those athletes is reportedly former Tennessee point Trae Golden. Golden, a junior point guard, surprisingly up and transferred from the school last week.
At the time, it was reported that Golden was transferring due to academic issues related to bouts of plagiarism. Now it appears Golden got out of dodge before the heat came down on the school.
Wright offered to resign May 9, according to documents in the case, but UT did not accept her resignation due to the ongoing investigation.
Once she failed to cooperate with the investigation, and then failed to appear at a meeting, she was fired.

Report: Terminated Tennessee Employee May Have Had Inappropriate Relationship With Trae Golden

YouTube
Last week, Tennessee point guard Trae Golden announced he would be transferring from the university to play elsewhere for his senior season. The move was a complete surprise to Vols fans, as they’d heard nothing about Golden potentially looking to leave the school.
Many outlets first reported that Golden had academic issues, namely “repeated plagiarism”, and was basically forced out. His father denied those reports however. From govolsxtra.com:

“Contacted Wednesday afternoon, Robert Golden, Trae’s father, initially declined comment. He then, however, called Tuesday’s reports “totally inaccurate.”
“No, no, no,” he said regarding Golden’s alleged academic issues. “It’s not that. My son, he’s fine in that area. He’s just going to pursue some other opportunities.””

Yesterday, another seemingly related bit of information was reported by WNML out of Knoxville:

Report: Jenny Wright had relations with Trae Golden

Jenny Wright, the recently dismissed director of the office of student judicial affairs, reportedly carried on inappropriate relations with University of Tennessee Volunteers athletes, and accoring to one source of Jimmy Hyams of “The Sports Animal” radio program in Knoxville, at least one of them was with former guard Trae Golden. The Sports Animal has learned that Jenny Wright, director of the office of student judicial affairs, has been terminated for failure to cooperate with a UT investigation into whether she had inappropriate relations with student-athletes. One of those athletes, we’re told by sources, is former UT basketball player Trae Golden. Wright offered to resign May 9, according to documents, but UT did not accept her resignation due to the ongoing investigation. When she failed to cooperate with the investigation, being conducted by outside attorney Beecher Bartlett, then failed to appear at the meeting, she was fired. As we told you last night, Wright has hired an ...

Tennessee Volunteers Can Be The SEC Surprise Team of 2013

Before 2008, it wasn’t considered a surprise for Tennessee to be in the SEC title game any year.In fact, in 11 years from 1997 through 2007, Tennessee appeared in the SEC title game five times (97, 98, 01, 04 and 07) and won the title twice (97 and 98).Since their last appearance in the 2007 championship game - a 21-14 loss to soon-to-be BCS Champion LSU - the Vols have fallen on hard times. The 2010 and 2011 teams set the two year record in futility for Tennessee. They tallied the first ever back-to-back losing seasons in over 100 years of football. To top off the Derek Dooley era, the 2012 squad went 5-7, making it three losing seasons in a row.Since the 2007 season, Tennessee has had four losing seasons, is on their fourth coaching staff and has been to only two minor bowl games—both losses. Expectations nowadays, are a bit more conservative for the realistic fans of The Big Orange.A slump like this presents the perfect setup for this year's team to become a story similar to T...

Tenn PG kicked out for plagiarism?

A source in the UT athletic department with knowledge of the situation told govolsxtra.com that Trae Golden’s departure from the university is “based on academics” and a result of “repeated plagiarism.” The source also stated that Golden would not be permitted to attend summer school in order to repair his academic standing. The University of Tennessee has a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. Trae Golden obviously did not read the university honor code that is placed in every syllabus I have had since I was a freshman — Seth Hughes (@THESethHughes) May 7, 2013 This is the first known explanation of Golden’s departure after head coach Cuonzo Martin addressed the media earlier in the day. It is unknown whether this will be officially confirmed by a university official.

Tennessee Volunteers fan dresses up his sons as Pimps

At the Tennessee Volunteers Spring Game, one family’s dedication rose above the rest. A Tennessee man dressed as a pimp in an orange tuxedo with a cane, and then dressed up his kids in white tuxedos. The look on the man’s face in the background is one of the best parts of the photo. He clearly looks like he is thinking to himself, “why didn’t I think of that?” Only in the SEC.
