Is Vanderbilt transfer Sheldon Jeter on the way to Pitt?

It's not yet a done done deal, but all signs are pointing to Sheldon Jeter transferring to Pitt. Jeter, a 6'7" forward, is a local player from Beaver Falls who was at Vanderbilt. He averaged a little more than five points and three rebounds per game this year. Out of high school, he was a three-star recruit and ranked as Rivals' No. 150 player in the nation.
SB Nation's Vanderbilt blog Anchor of Gold calls the loss a big blow. According to his coach, he wanted to be closer to home. Jeter himself cited personal issues.
The closer to home statement seems to indicate that the Panthers would be in the mix. All the talk is about Jeter coming to Pitt, but he says his mind's not made up yet:

Just to clear this up, I do not know what school I will go to. That is another conversation to take place at another time with my family.
— Sheldon Jeter (@LongLive_Jete21) May 18, 2013

I wouldn't take that as a sign that he's not coming to Pitt. I'm not saying his mind is set on Pitt, o

Carl Yastrzemski’s Grandson Mike Leads Vanderbilt Commodores

There has been no shortage of family involvement in Major League Baseball over the years; the Alou family, Phil and Joe Niekro, Bobby and Barry Bonds, Yogi Berra and his son Dale, Cecil and Prince Fielder to name but a few. In some cases the newer generation outshone the former and in others the shoes of the father were just too big to fill.
Well, if you think some had a tough chore keeping up with their fathers’ legacies consider Vanderbilt University’s Mike Yastrzemski. He’s the grandson of Hall of Famer and Boston Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski. Yaz played in the Majors for 23 years and among his many accomplishments were a Triple Crown, two World Series and 18 All-Star Games
Mike, a senior, is a 22 year old left-hitting, right-fielder for the number 2 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. In 2009, out of high school he was drafted in the 36th round of the MLB first-year player draft by the Boston Red Sox. He was drafted again last summer by the Seattle Mariners who offered him $300,000...

Pogue: Vandy playmakers shine in spring game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Vanderbilt's annual Black & Gold Spring Game here Saturday was an opportunity for the Commodores to exhibit a talented stable of playmakers on both sides of the ball.

The quality of depth third-year coach James Franklin has assembled continues to encourage Commodores fans that this recent run of success has a strong chance of continuing. Vanderbilt is coming off its first nine-win season in nearly a century and first-ever run of back-to-back bowl berths, including the Music City Bowl victory over North Carolina State.

In a game where the projected starters wore black and the backups for now wore gold, it took a late drive by the Black team, and eventual game-winning field goal by kicker Carey Spear on the games final play, to pull out a 17-15 victory over a stubborn Gold team of starter wannabes.

"We stayed healthy, which is the most important thing, Franklin said after the game at Vanderbilt Stadium. "We got a lot of reps and a lot of experience for a lot of guys. This

Vandy football primed for big things in 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. There is a big difference between thinking you can and knowing you can.

Vanderbilt football knows it can win nine games like last season, most for the team in nearly a hundred years, including the Music City Bowl victory over North Carolina State.

But the mantra coming from this year's Commodores is this team hasnt accomplished anything yet, although there are notions of continued ascent for the upstart program under third-year coach James Franklin. Vanderbilt returns 16 seniors and some of the top talent in the country, offering promise for the program's first back-to-back winning seasons since 1974-75.

"Having success in (the last two years) and being able to take some positive strides, there is no doubt," Franklin said Saturday following the team's open scrimmage at Vanderbilt Stadium. "We talk all the time about last year. It helps with experience and confidence and things like that.

History repeats itself as Vanderbilt executes the rare triple steal for the second year in a row

Executing a triple steal is a rare feat in baseball, unless, of course, you’re the Vanderbilt Commodores, who seem to have no problem pulling off the difficult triple steal. Last year they did the near impossible against Florida in the SEC tourney, and this year they managed to make Lipscomb fall prey to the triple steal in the 4th inning of their 4-1 win this past Tuesday.
Here’s a free bit of advice to any of the Commodores’ future opponents that may be reading this (Ed. note: is there a percentage less than zero?)—if Vandy loads the bases at any time during the game, be on the lookout for the triple steal. They have to be cocky now that they’ve done it successfully two years in a row, so chances are they’re going to keep trying it until they get caught. If your team falls victim to the Vanderbilt triple steal, then you only have yourselves to blame.

Video: Vanderbilt's Sheldon Jeter jams ferocious dunk

Ole Miss advanced to the Southeastern Conference championship game by downing, 64-52, Vanderbilt on Saturday, but the biggest takeaway from this game was this two-handed dunk by Commodores forward Sheldon Jeter. With the score tied at 34, and about seven minutes into the second half, Jeter drove down the baseline and proceeded to finish the play with an incredible slam. Watch as the 6-foot-7 freshman contorts his body in such a way that makes it look as though he floats for a brief moment.Jeter finished the game with five points and three rebounds off the bench in a losing cause.

Vanderbilt D-lineman Jared Morse tackles teammate during interception return (Video)

Vanderbilt Commodores defensive lineman Jared Morse accidentally tackled his teammate during an interception return in the third quarter of the Music City Bowl on New Year's Eve.

Vandy cornerback Trey Wilson intercepted the pass thrown by NC State quarterback Mike Glennon in the end zone and returned it 65 yards. Unfortunately, Morse ran right into Wilson's path, and Wilson could not avoid colliding with Morse and immediately went down. As it happened near the Vandy sideline, Morse immediately got an earful from one of the assistant coaches.

Vandy scored a field goal on the ensuing drive on the way to a 38-24 victory.

Vanderbilt beat North Carolina State 38-24 today after State quarterback Mike Glennon threw three interceptions. This particular interception by Trey Wilson didn't end up well for Defensive Tackle Jared Morse. Morse clearly isn't up to par on his down field blocking, because instead of laying into one of the other teams tacklers he laid out his own runner with a big shoulder to the face. The coach wasn't very happy about it and lit into Morse for about 30 seconds on the sidelines. Check out the video below.

Renovation follows athletic success at Vanderbilt

A bowl berth in football, the first Southeastern Conference men's basketball tournament title in 61 years and the league cross-country championship are just some of the accomplishments for the Vanderbilt Commodores this year.

For the man in charge of athletics at the SEC's only private university, the lengthy list of accomplishments is very nice. But Vice Chancellor David Williams said no one at Vanderbilt wants to get too relaxed or complacent, citing the Commodores' second bowl game in four seasons at the Liberty Bowl with helping drive expectations higher.

''Once you go to a bowl game and you experience it, you don't want to stop, so nobody, nobody wants to face the other now,'' Williams said Wednesday. ''It's kind of like they've tasted the best, and they don't want to go back to the other. So everyone's pulling hard, and everyone's experienced that.''

Vanderbilt's success may not measure up to all the national championships Alabam
