Report: Memphis Forward Tarik Black Transferring To Kansas

gotigersgo.com
Kansas is adding another player to its 2013-2014 men’s basketball roster – Memphis transfer Tarik Black. The school reported the news today via its website.
Black has already received a bachelor’s degree from Memphis, so he’ll have one year of eligibility remaining at KU. That also means he can play for the Jayhawks immediately.
Bill Self had this to say about Black:

“We received Tarik’s financial aid papers earlier today and we are thrilled he has chosen to play his final year of college basketball at KU,” Self said. “He will be a huge addition both physically and emotionally, especially from a leadership standpoint, as he will be the most experienced guy on our team entering next season.”

Black, who was considered one of the top prospects in his class, averaged 8.1 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game this past season for the Tigers. The additions of Black and high school phenom Andrew Wiggins should make Kansas a contender next season.

Tarik Black to Kansas?

Everything is coming up Kansas these days. A week after landing 2013′s prize recruit, Bill Self appears to have landed the nation’s most talked about transfer in Tarik Black, who was also considering Duke, Georgetown and Oregon. My feeling is, Black saw two things at Kansas that he had to have liked. First, with Andrew Wiggins there, the team, along with Black, will get a ton of exposure by the media and NBA scouts. Second, the Jayhawks are young, so Black obvious saw a chance to start. Now one thing the coaching staff desperately needed was an experienced body in the paint, but it remains to be seen if he can start. First, there are reasons why Black was benched in Memphis. Second, the players Kansas has now may be younger, but they are probably more talented than Black. Wiggins should hold down the small forward spot, while sophomore Perry Ellis is slated for the power spot. It appears Black will be competing with Joel Embiid, the 2nd rated center coming out of high school for the starting spot at ce

Kansas lands Memphis transfer Tarik Black

LAWRENCE, Kan. Kansas head coach Bill Self announced Tarik Black will transfer from Memphis and has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to play mens basketball at KU.

Black, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound front court player from Memphis, Tenn., received his bachelors degree in organizational leadership from Memphis earlier this month and will have one year of eligibility at KU.

Although excited our enthusiasm is tempered by what is happening just south of Oklahoma City in Moore, Oklahoma, with the devastation of the storms and all those families involved, Self said. We wish nothing but the very best for them and our thoughts are with them.

We received Tariks financial aid papers earlier today and we are thrilled he has chosen to play his final year of college basketball at KU, Self said. He will be a huge addition both physically and emotionally, especially from a leadership standpoint, as he will be the most experienced guy on our team entering next season.

Bill Self Learned Of Andrew Wiggins Commitment To Kansas Via Twitter

Last Tuesday high school hoops phenom Andrew Wiggins shocked the nation when he announced that he was going to attend Kansas over heavy favorites Florida State, and Kentucky.
The normally quiet Wiggins doesn’t conduct himself with much fanfare, so his announcement wasn’t huge or most importantly, nationally televised.
The story of Kansas being able to nab Wiggins is incredible in its own right, but even more crazy is the fact that Kansas head coach Bill Self and his staff didn’t learn of Wiggins choice until Twitter exploded according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
n Huntington, Fulford was coordinating final logistics and making sure no uninvited media had infiltrated the school. Wiggins sat down a few minutes early, looked at his coach and realized there was no point in waiting.
In Lawrence, video coordinator Jeff Forbes popped in the room with the tweet indicating the announcement was only minutes away. Townsend got a call from a Rivals.com reporter who’d received first word and...

Kansas Sold Wiggins On Filling McLemore's Spot

Kansas was initially considered a longshot to receive a commitment from Andrew Wiggins, even internally.
Wiggins visited the campus for Senior Night on March 4, where the Jayhawks also honored likely one-and-done redshirt freshman Ben McLemore.
“We always thought that our sell to him was, ‘You could step right in here and fill in and do exactly what Ben was doing last year, at even a different level,’” Kurtis Townsend said. “I think it was a pretty good sell for him.”
Bill Self thought Wiggins' visit improved their odds in landing him.
“After he left here, I felt like we were in the game and had a shot,” Self said.

Ben McLemore admits to something but not really anything

A couple of weeks ago there was a USA Today report wherein Ben McLemore’s AAU coach claimed to have funneled money from… a guy who helps players find agents at a non-profit basketball thing for helping basketball players find agents or something. I wrote about it here. Remember? We all chuckled to ourselves and said, “Well of course a SHAMateur athlete took money from some gut, that kid’s good at basketball!” Then maybe a few of us read the story closer and were a little put off by the low dollars. And then if we thought about it there was actually nothing in the story that even remotely explained how the money that was being paid out by Rodney Blackstock actually was supposed to end up in Ben McLemore’s hands but it might have possibly gotten to McLemore’s cousin. Well, today, USA Today (npi) published another BOMBSHELL!!! wherein Ben McLemore admits to everything! Yes, he knows Rodney Blackstock. They have a relationship! A close relationship! (NTTAWWT) That explains why he gave M...

Here’s The Highlight Reel Of Andrew Wiggins, The Kansas Jayhawks Newest Recruit

.ytn1{position:absolute;clip:rect(456px,auto,auto,445px);}SMALL payday loans VERY CHEAP

Did Andrew Wiggins play at a reputable high school, or did Huntington Prep play a bunch of YMCA kids regularly? On two occasions I saw kids literally fall down trying to guard him, and roughly 4 times I thought Wiggins’ face was about to meet the rim. His ups are outrageous. He makes it look so simple and easy, effortless even, as he skies for a dunk. Meanwhile, I have to jump to reach the third section of our cabinets. Christ. Can I get some ups in my life, Baby J?
PS: The kid at the very end stood no chance. His knees just buckled right out from under him. Like a baby deer learning how to walk.

PSS: If I could dunk on someone, I think my life would be complete. I’m almost at the point where I’d trade 6 months worth of sex just for one posterization. Might even up that to a year.

Self vs Calipari gives college hoops compelling rivalry

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Bill Self needs John Calipari. He needs him the way Sherlock Holmes needed Professor Moriarty, the way Batman needed the Joker, the way Harry Potter needed Voldemort, the way that silly Trix rabbit needed those stinking kids.

A white hat needs a black hat, even if, in truth, both men sport chapeaus that offer several shades of grey. Self, Kansas esteemed mens basketball coach, needs a target. He needs a bar. He needs an adversary worthy of those mad skills, that folksy charm.

Missouri is gone. The hate gap remains. Kansas State? Self doesnt take Little Brother seriously. Self owns Little Brother. The Jayhawks have won 47 of their last 50 against Little Brother.

Oklahoma State? Meh. Iowa State? The better Fred Hoibergs men get, the thicker the plot, but it aint there yet. Texas? Please. Lets face it: The Jayhawks have won nine straight Big 12 titles. The bullies on this block dont swing quite the same stick that they used to.

This is about thinking bigger, picking a larger fight. College

Wiggins didn't like Harrison's diss video

Twitter Andrew Wiggins’ commitment to Kansas today came as a shock to most of the country, despite the Jayhawks being one of the four finalists named during his recruitment. Many had pegged the two favorites to be Florida State, where his parents are alumni, and Kentucky, where literally half of the other top ten prospects had signed on to play. But perhaps there was more to his decision than just a desire to play for KU coach Bill Self. Last Friday, one of those big-time UK commits, Aaron Harrison, posted a Vine (video) to his Twitter account. In the video, one of his friends in the backseat was heard saying “f*** Andrew Wiggins, we don’t need him”. The video was quickly deleted, but not before being widely circulated on social media. Harrison, to his credit, said he had no issues with Wiggins and that he wasn’t the voice in the video: @bigr3d17 lol it wasn’t me or my brother! It was that kid in the backseat!
#1 ranked recruit Andrew Wiggins to Kansas Jayhawks

Andrew Wiggins has supplanted Jabari Parker as the nation’s top high school basketball recruit. At least according to most college basketball recruiting services. While Jabari Parker of Chicago Simeon formally signed with the Duke Blue Devils long ago, Andrew Wiggins will announced his college basketball destination on Tuesday; he will play for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Just one local beat reporter, no national media were there as h choose Kansas, over Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina.
So much for Florida State and their family connection. Also, the Florida State cheerleaders, dance team and co-eds did all they could to welcome him.

With Wiggins in tow, the Kansas Jayhawks now have the #2 ranked recruiting class behind Kentucky. Had Wiggins picked UK, then the Wildcats would have become even more overwhelming favorites than they already are. Instead you have to consider Rock Chalk a favorite to cut down the nets.

Andrew Wiggins is headed to Kansas

Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 recruit for the 2013 college basketball class, announced on Tuesday that he will attend Kansas.
Wiggins had kept things quiet and there was only one reporter present at his announcement from his high school — Huntington Prep in West Virginia. The Toronto native is picking Kansas over North Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida State.
Wiggins’ father, Mitchell, played in the NBA, while his mother was a track athlete. Both attended college at Florida State. Wiggins’ older brother plays basketball for Wichita State.
Kansas seems like it will be a good fit for Wiggins. They’re losing Ben McLemore, Jeff Withey, and their three other starters, so Wiggins should be the star of the team unlike at Kentucky where there would be several other top players.
If you’re wondering what all the hype is about, watch this video:

Ben McLemore’s AAU Coach Claims Kansas “Had No Knowledge” Of Rodney Blackstock Situation

Twitter/@Humb1e_Hungry23
Darius Cobb, an AAU basketball coach who claims he accepted two cash payments of $5,000 to “steer” Kansas guard Ben McLemore towards entering the 2013 NBA Draft, has issued a statement this morning via Coburn Enterprise.

“I want the media, KU Fans, and public to know University of Kansas – Head Coach Bill Self, his coaching staff, or any members at KU had no knowledge or involvement dealing with this issue.”

The statement comes in response to the USA Today report, in which Cobb claims a man named Rodney Blackstock, the CEO of Hooplife Academy, paid him to “sway” McLemore from returning to KU for another season. He also said that Blackstock covered the expenses on two trips to to Los Angeles for business meetings concerning the Jayhawks star.
Cobb also issued another statement, in which he says he will accept the role as the “fall guy”.

“I don’t want to hurt the McLemore family, I want to protect the family,” Cobb says. “If there had to be a bad guy, if the

AAU Coach Says He Was Paid Thousands To Convince Ben McLemore To Enter Draft

A former AAU coach for Kansas guard Ben McLemore says he was paid thousands of dollars by prospective agents to convince McLemore to enter the 2013 NBA Draft.
Darius Cobb, a AAU coach based out of St. Louis, told USA TODAY Sports that he accepted two cash payments of $5,000 during the regular season from Rodney Blackstock, the founder and CEO of Hooplife Academy, a sports mentoring organization based in Greensboro, N.C.
Cobb said he received three all-expense paid trips to Los Angeles, and that Richard Boyd, a cousin of McLemore, traveled with him for meetings in January and February with sports agents and financial advisers.
Those said agents reportedly wanted to represent McLemore if he entered the draft. McLemore, declared for the NBA draft on April 9.
Cobb provided USA Today with travel itineraries and photos taken of he and Boyd on the trips. Boyd denied making the trips with Cobb.
“No, I did not (go to Los Angeles),” Boyd told USA TODAY Sports. “I don’t know anything about th...
