R.J. McCray scored 17 points and Marcelis Hansberry got five of his 16 in overtime as Louisiana-Monroe beat Southeastern Louisiana 68-61 in a nonconference game Monday night for its first win this season.

Neither team made a basket in overtime, with all nine points for the Warhawks (1-4) and the two points by the Lions (1-6) coming on free throws.

Two free throws by Hansberry broke a 61-61 tie with 2:29 left in overtime, and Trent Mackey hit two more to make it 65-61.

Hansberry made 1 of 2 free throws after a missed Lions shot, and he added a pair with 5 seconds left after making a steal.

Jeffery Ricard scored 24 points for Southeastern Louisiana, which led by as many as eight points in the second half but needed Roosevelt Johnson's tip-in with 1 second left to tie it 59-59 after regulation.

Louisiana-Monroe 23, FIU 17, OT

Kolton Browning threw for 218 yards and a touchdown and added another rushing to help Louisiana-Monroe beat Florida International 23-17 in overtime Saturday in Sun Belt Conference action.

Browning, who completed 31 of 38 passes, put Louisiana-Monroe (8-4, 6-2) up 7-0 in the first quarter on his 2-yard run.

The teams exchanged scores until Louisiana-Monroe's R.J. Young returned an E.J. Hilliard fumble 36 yards for what looked like the game-winning touchdown. However, Hilliard completed a 58-yard Hail Mary at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

FIU (3-9, 2-6) got the ball first in overtime but Louisiana-Monroe blocked the Panthers' 41-yard field goal attempt after sacking Hilliard for an 8-yard loss.

From there, Browning completed two passes to Brent Leonard, then ran for 2 yards before connecting again with Leonard - this time from 15 yards out - for the game-winning touchdown.

Leonard finished with 13 catches.

Kolton Browning threw for 250 yards and four touchdowns, all caught by Brent Leonard, to lead Louisiana-Monroe to a 38-24 victory over South Alabama on Saturday night.

Louisiana-Monroe 63, Tulane 10

Kolton Browning threw three first-half touchdown passes and Louisiana-Monroe cruised to a 63-10 victory over Tulane on Saturday.

The junior was 15-of-21 for 253 yards as the Warhawks (2-2) gained 553 yards and scored their most points since moving to the Football Bowl Subdivision level in 1994.

The Green Wave (0-4) lost their 14th straight and had just 151 yards total offense.

After Browning's first scoring pass, a 3-yarder to Kevin Steed, made it 14-0 in the first quarter, D.J. Ponder, the third Tulane starting quarterback in three weeks, was intercepted by R.J. Young. Young fumbled at the Tulane 6 after returning it 49 yards, but Ray Stovall recovered the ball in the end zone to score.

Browning threw for second-quarter scores of 29 yards to Je'Ron Hamm and 38 yards to Tavarese Mays, and Darius Lively's 6-yard interception return touchdown in the third quarter put the Warhawks up 56-3.

Louisiana Monroe coach Todd Berry told everyone but no one listened

The loss by the Arkansas Razorbacks to the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks was a shocker to almost everyone, but maybe that was because no one listened to ULM head coach Todd Berry. Before Saturday’s game, ESPNU sportscaster Clay Matvick called Louisiana Monroe, “their final tune up before a number one Alabama comes calling next week.” Looks like the Hogs need to put the car back in the shop, but that is another story.Berry spoke strongly of his team during the Sun Belt Media Day this summer. I was there when he did, but honestly did not think much of it. Looking back, he was truly confident about his team coming into the season. The Warhawks head coach talked about his quarterback during the media day, “I think we got a really special quarterback in Kolton Browning. Tough guy. You know last year, unbeknownst to y’all, he played with a broken sternum. He broke it in the fourth game of our season. He kept playing.” Browning had 481 total yards and four touchdowns including the game winner...

Louisiana-Monroe 34, Arkansas 31: When an upset sneaks up on you

Stunning upsets come in a variety of flavors, but Louisiana-Monroe’s 34-31 victory over Arkansas Saturday night was one of the more unique.

Like me, chances are you were watching one of the evening’s higher-profile tilts. The game’s score popped up on the crawl at the bottom of your screen every once in a while, suggesting a comfortable – if not a bit lethargic – win for the Razorbacks. If you’re into that kind of thing, ULM covering the 30.5-point spread wouldn’t have been a surprise, seeing as the Hogs had Alabama on deck.

Unless you are someone who might care more than your average fan about one of the two teams involved, you probably weren’t paying attention when the Warhawks cut the deficit to 14 late in the third quarter.

When ULM scored again early in the fourth quarter to cut Arkansas’ lead to just 7 points, that probably changed. You might have clicked over to find that Tyler Wilson, Arkansas’ star quarterback, was lost for the game. You also might have ...

La.-Monroe stuns No. 8 Arkansas in OT

Kolton Browning made the most of his return to Arkansas.

Browning's 16-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one lifted Louisiana-Monroe to a 34-31 overtime win over the No. 8 Razorbacks on Saturday night.

Browning accounted for 481 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to lead the Warhawks (1-0) to their first win over a Southeastern Conference team since defeating Alabama in 2007.

The junior made his first career start in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium two years ago as a freshman, a 31-7 loss by the Warhawks. He showed his maturity and then some in his return, helping Louisiana-Monroe outgain Arkansas 550-377 in total yards.

The Razorbacks (1-1) played the second half without quarterback Tyler Wilson, who suffered a head injury after taking several big hits in the first half.

Wilson, who also missed the second half against New Mexico last season with concussion-like symptoms, was 11-of-20 passing for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns before leaving the game at halftime.
