Wes Lunt transfers to Illinois, is it enough to turn around Tim Beckman's outlook?

As expected, former Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt has made the move to Illinois. His transfer is a significant victory for the maligned Tim Beckman, but now the pressure will continue for the Illini head coach to have a team capable of supplementing what surrounds his new quarterback in 2014.

Before we get to Beckman though, it should be noted that Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy had come under fire for the decisions to severely limit the options Lunt had in terms of transfer options. As we noted previously, Oklahoma State was enforcing a scholarship policy that allows the school to block any transfer for a player to any number of opposing schools. The Cowboys were making use of that option to eliminate up to nearly 40 schools from consideration for Lunt, including every possible destination in the Big 12, SEC and Pac 12. Fortunately, Gundy eventually caved a little and lifted some of those restrictions. Interestingly enough, Illinois was not one of the schools appearin...

Cowboys Add Junior College Defensive Tackle

It was easy to get a feeling back on June 8 that Jeremiah Ledbetter would end up casting his future football lot with Oklahoma State. The 6-3, 292-pound defensive tackle was in Stillwater with several of his Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College teammates and some other junior college prospects as they watched a record number of high school players go through the Cowboys one-day minicamp.

Illinois makes former OSU QB Lunt transfer official

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois coach Tim Beckman says quarterback Wes Lunt's transfer from Oklahoma State is official.

Beckman said Tuesday that the sophomore-to-be signed paperwork to transfer to Illinois. Lunt held a news conference in his hometown, Rochester, to announce his plans to join the Illini.

The quarterback started five games as a freshman for the Cowboys. But injury knocked him out of the lineup and he announced plans to leave Oklahoma State after the season. Lunt will have to sit out 2013 under NCAA transfer rules.

He's a 6-4, strong-armed pocket passer and considered an upgrade for the Illini. He threw for more than 7,000 yards while leading Rochester to two state titles.

Illini land Oklahoma State QB Wes Lunt

The Illini had some serious issues at quarterback last year. To quote Spandau Ballett: “I know this much is true.” They also had some issues on the O Line, and in the receiving corps and the running backs and the…Let’s move on. Ex Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt, a Rochester Illinois native, is coming home, according to multiple reports.

Lunt could be a good fit for the Illini and Bill Cubit’s spread offense.
In addition to the Illini, Lunt considered Southern Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Louisville. This news won’t really affect current Illini signal caller Nate Scheelhaase, who regressed terribly last season. However, I doubt backup QB Reilly O’Toole is especially thrilled with the idea of Wes Lunt coming in. As O’Toole has a legit chance of inheriting the job once Scheelhaase is gone.

Wes Lunt will have to sit out a year. I guess Lunt didn’t gel with Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy. And anytime you mention Gundy you have to bring up:

Report: Former Oklahoma State QB Lunt heading to Illinois

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt appears to be headed to Illinois, according to ESPN and cbssports.com.

Lunt grew up in Rochester, Ill., which is only a 90-minute drive from the Illinois campus in Champaign.

Illinois is coached by former Oklahoma State assistant Tim Beckman.

Lunt was the only true freshman to start at quarterback in OSU. He threw for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions in five games before being injured.

Lunt will not be eligible to play this upcoming season. He will have three years of eligibility left. Lunt was blocked from transferring to a number of schools by OSU coach Mike Gundy.

Report: Marcus Smart’s Bad Wrist Led Him Back To Oklahoma State

okstate.com
Many wondered how Oklahoma State shooting guard Marcus Smart could turn down millions of dollars and the potential to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.
Now we know.
Smart is at the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship training camp in Colorado where he talked to FOXsports.com college hoops writer Reid Forgrave.

Great talk w @smart_MS3 on why return to Ok St. End season left bad taste…but also hurt wrist in NCAAs, couldn’t lift ball til May.
— Reid Forgrave (@ReidForgrave) June 16, 2013

If Marcus Smart’s wrist healthy, probably going to NBA, he told me. But pumped 1 more year college: “I get to be a kid for 1 more year.”
— Reid Forgrave (@ReidForgrave) June 16, 2013
Guess the Cowboys being ousted in the first round of the NCAA Tournament was a blessing in disguise.
Last season, Smart put OSU basketball back on the map. After winning both the Big 12 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors and being named an second-team All-American by the AP, Smart w...

Cowboys Grab A Punter In Sinor

The thought was that Oklahoma State would take a specialist in the 2014 recruiting class but with 2013 signee Ben Grogan capable of doing all three (kick placements, kickoff and punt) the questions were what would Grogan do and what would the Cowboys look for in the 2014 class? The answer is Zach Sinor, who is a returning Class 4A All-State punter out of Medina Valley High School.

Flickr/ShuttrKing|KT
The buzz around Stillwater suggests the Oklahoma State Cowboys offense will function at a pace never seen before by OSU faithful. The 40-yard dash time of Ra’Shaad Samples supports this theory.
Samples was the prized recruit for coach Mike Gundy’s 2013 recruiting class. The wideout from Dallas, Texas arrived in Stillwater with a ton of hype. His speed has added to the hoopla.
As he posted on his Twitter account, Samples ran 40 yards in 4.32 seconds, a record for a freshman at OSU. A tweet by Clint Chelf confirmed Samples’ claim.

Oklahoma State's Gundy being sued over t-shirt

We're about to find out just how much Brent Loveland's shirt is worth.

Loveland, of Choctaw, Okla., claims he was fired from a construction job at the Stillwater, Okla., home of Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy for wearing a University of Oklahoma baseball t-shirt.

There is a pre-trial conference scheduled for Monday in Logan County, which is adjacent to Payne County where the incident happened.

Loveland, who was hired to do trim installation in March of 2011 at Gundy's home, filed the suit in August of 2011 after Gundy allegedly approached Loveland on the first day on the job saying, "How dare you come into my house and offend my wife?" Loveland then asked what Gundy was referring to and Gundy responded, "That (expletive deleted) shirt you have on."

Loveland claims he got dressed in the dark and said he didn't realize what shirt he was wearing and didn't know it had an OU logo on it.

Gundy has not commented on the matter since the suit was initially filed.

Ledbetter A Huge Target For Cowboys

It was obvious that Oklahoma State is interested in the big young man wearing a white shirt and black shorts by the number of coaches that stopped to say hello on Saturday. The big, athletic player was Jeremiah Ledbetter, who is expected to take the Jayhawk Conference by storm this season playing in the middle of the defensive line at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

Oklahoma State Football: Cowboys add 3-star QB to class of '14

Oklahoma State may have already found its replacement for the departed Wes Lunt, as quarterback Mason Rudolph of Northwestern High School (SC) pledged to the Cowboys Wednesday morning.

Rudolph committed during an announcement at his school, which was broadcast live on a local radio station—which just goes to show how big of an impact he's had on his community from on-field performances thus far.

“It’s definitely one of the hardest decisions I’ve made in my life,” Rudolph told Bret McCormick of HeraldOnline.com. “Luckily I had my family and my coaches and teachers to help me out with it, but what I think it came down to was the character of coach [Mike] Gundy and coach [Michael] Yurcich. That program was really attractive to me and I could see myself there."

Rudolph, standing at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, is a three-star prospect and the No. 24 overall Pro-Style quarterback for the class of 2014 (247Sports Composite) and the 12th-best recruit from the state of South...

Oklahoma State reaches regional final

Oklahoma State took advantage of two Miami errors and the Cowboys advanced to the regional final of the NCAA baseball tournament's Louisville regional with a 7-1 win over the Hurricanes on Sunday.

The Cowboys (41-18) broke open a 1-1 game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Designated hitter Jarrett Higgins hit a one-out RBI triple, and Miami's throw to third base sailed into the dugout, allowing Higgins to score, too.

Oklahoma State added another run in the seventh inning when Hurricanes left fielder Tyler Palmer misplayed a ball off the bat of Higgins with a man on second. The Hurricanes (37-25) were eliminated. They finished with four hits in their season finale.

Oklahoma State will play Louisville in the regional final. The Cowboys must win Sunday night and again Monday to advance to the super regional.?

Mountaineers edge Oklahoma State 6-5 in 10th

Jacob Rice singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning and West Virginia beat Oklahoma State 6-5 on Saturday to stay in the chase for the Big 12 tournament title.

The third-seeded Mountaineers (33-26) trailed 5-0 before scoring five times in the sixth. Ryan Tuntland had a two-run single before Ryan McBroom and Brady Wilson hit back-to-back home runs to tie it. West Virginia would face Oklahoma for the title Sunday if TCU beats Kansas in the late game Saturday.

Randy McCurry hit a two-run home run for the second-seeded Cowboys (39-17), who were winless at the tournament despite leading all three games.

Corey Walter (5-5) threw four scoreless innings of relief for West Virginia.

Oklahoma State closer Brendan McCurry (6-3) took the loss.

Gundy invites Duck Dynasty crew to Oklahoma State game

When Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy isn't watching game film, he's tuning into his family's favorite TV show on A&E.

.@jamiedonwheat Our family watches @duckdynastyae every morning & night. Uncle SI is our favorite. They're welcome at okstate. AskGundy Mike Gundy (@CoachGundy) May 10, 2013
In a perfect world, Gundy would like to combine his love for football and Duck Dynasty. So he's extended an invitation to the cast to come to Stillwater, Okla. for a game this fall.

Extend an open invitation to the @duckdynastyae crew for sideline passes & carte blanche to @cowboyfb. Love to have them in Stillwater Mike Gundy (@CoachGundy) May 10, 2013
After quarterback Wes Lunt announce he is transferring on Thursday, maybe Gundy could turn to the show's 67-year-old patriarch Phil for help. Afterall, he was the starter over Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech.
