Utah States new Facilities

Utah State was gifted with a new addition to their athletic department last week with Carol and Jim Laub granting the university a 5.25 million dollar donation. This donation will help the university build a new basketball practice facility as well as a new venue for the volleyball program. This new 32,000 foot square building will be able to host 1,400 fans as well as a weight room, video room for the volleyball team and offices for both programs.
I think this is a really big step for Utah State going into their first season participating in the Mountain West. This new addition will act as a great new venue for the volleyball team as well as being a great recruiting tool. Also with the football program finishing up their new weight room, Utah State is really looking like an athletic program on the rise.
For someone who really enjoys going to the volleyball games here on campus, the idea of trying to fill a 10,000 seat venue for those games is very difficult. Now filling a 1,00 seat...

Dolphins draft pick Will Davis perseveres to overcome challenges

On April 27th when the Miami Dolphins selected cornerback Will Davis of Utah State, some fans groaned slightly about the pick in the third round. While the Dolphins traded with the Green Bay Packers into the third round to get him, most fans had little or no idea who Will Davis was.

Davis came into the list of draf prospects ranked 124th by NFL.com and not high on most lists for the first few rounds due to his limited experience playing football. While not well known playing at Utah State in the Mountain West Conference Davis has demonstrated an ability to overcome challenges.

His first experience playing out of high school at Western Washington College was cut short due the school cancelling their football program entirely.

With no where to go, Davis landed softly on his feet in Cupertino, California where he showcased his talents against elite junior college players as a starter at De Anza College playing against the best of the best at Fresno City College and San ...

Utah State Spring Game

Saturday afternoon Utah State hosted their annual spring blue and white football game at Romney Stadium. The game matched up the offense for the Aggies straight up against the defense to see who’s on top going into the summer break. The scoring for the day wasn’t the same as a typical football as well, with things like the defense acquiring two points for something like a sack or tackle for a loss. The offense would be awarded two points for a pass over 20 yards.
The day definitely went to the defense that at the very least won the game in overall points 59-39. The offense didn’t help themselves though giving up 5 sacks and turning the ball over three times. Twice the offense turned the ball over through the air on interceptions and a fumble that almost led to a touchdown. Quarterback Chuckie Keeton did not have a great day only completing just short of half his passes. Not all of these incompletions can be blamed on him, Chuckie did not get the help from his receivers he needed. Th...

Utah State Football Schedule

The Utah State Football program released the schedule for the upcoming year this week, which will see the Aggies on the road four out of the first five weeks. Their first two games will be played at University of Utah and Air Force. Followed by their first home game against Weber State, then at USC and San Jose State. This is not going to be an easy five weeks for the Aggies that could see their record fall to 1-4. Going down to Salt Lake to open the season is going to be an extremely tough first game with the Aggies having knocked off the Utes last season. The following week against Air Force will really test the speed of the Aggies defense with the spread style offense the Falcon.
Their first game home may be there easiest of the first five weeks, but that doesn’t mean they can sleep on Weber State looking forward to the USC matchup. The Aggies are obviously underdogs in the Coliseum, but keep in mind the Aggies played some of their most exceptional football in Oklahoma two years ...

Draft Zone Spotlight: Terrence Alston, CB, Utah State

Draft Zone Spotlight: Terrence Alston, CB, Utah State
Terrence Alston came to Utah State after earning honorable mention All-America accolades as well as first-team all-Region III and first-team all-conference honors for Solano Community College. He knew when coming to Utah State he would be competing with Will Davis the other talented cornerback but that didn’t stop Alston. The 5’9 182, senior finished the year with 35 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 4 TFL, 2 FF, 1 INT. He was very solid opposite of Will Davis and has been drawing interest from NFL teams. Don’t be surprised if someone brings Terrance into a camp and he lands on a team’s 53 man roster.
How many teams were recruiting you coming out of high school and how did you make your decision?
About 3 or 4 colleges, I came from a JC so my road to D-1 was a little different but after my second year of JC, about 6 or 7 colleges was scouting me. I made the choice because I felt like Utah would give me the chance to become who I wanted to be in...

Utah St. promotes Wells to coach

Utah State has promoted offensive coordinator Matt Wells to replace Gary Anderson as head football coach.

The university announced move Thursday in Logan.

Anderson has reportedly been hired at Wisconsin to replace Bret Bielema. Bielema left to take the Arkansas job. Wisconsin hasn't officially announced the hire yet.

Andersen just completed his fourth and best season at Utah State. The Aggies went 11-2, won the Western Athletic Conference and beat Toledo on Saturday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bow. They are expected to finish in the Top 25 in the final AP rankings.

The 39-year-old Wells played quarterback for the Aggies in the mid-1990s and has coached at the school for the past two seasons.

New Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen called each of his Utah State players to inform them he was leaving

We’ve seen multiple examples of how not to leave a school for another job from the likes of Tommy Tuberville and Randy Edsall. Now let’s take a moment to applaud a coach for leaving a school for another job the right.
Former Utah State Gary Andersen was named the new head coach at Wisconsin today. And if you ask some Wisconsin fans, the hire was a home run. Andersen heads to Madison with an impressive resume at Utah State, but what he did after news broke that he would be the Badgers’s next head coach is even more impressive.
According to Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal, Andersen called each and every one of his Utah State players to personally inform them he was leaving. All 106 or so of them.

Reports: Wisconsin to hire Utah State's Andersen

Wisconsin will hire Utah State's Gary Andersen as head football coach to replace Bret Bielema, according to multiple media reports.

The Wisconsin State Journal was first to report that Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez had offered Andersen the job Tuesday night. Andersen is in his fourth year at Utah State and is coming off his best season yet.

The 18th-ranked Aggies won the Western Athletic Conference and finished 11-2, with a school record for victories after beating Toledo 41-15 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Saturday.

Utah State lost 16-14 at Wisconsin earlier this season.

The 48-year-old Andersen is 26-24 at Utah State. He took over in Logan, Utah, after spending five seasons as defensive coordinator at the University of Utah under Kyle Whittingham. In the four seasons before Andersen took over at Utah State, the Aggies won a total of nine games.

Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas earlier this month in a surprising move.

Andersen's move would come as a surprise only because he

Report: Wisconsin offers head coaching job to Utah State head coach Gary Andersen.

Wisconsin's long national nightmare may be over. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the school is ready to make an offer to Utah State head football coach Gary Andersen to replace the now-departed Bret Bielema.

"A source close to the UW program confirmed Tuesday Andersen was the
pick to replace Bret Bielema, who told (Wisconsin AD Barry) Alvarez on Dec. 4 he was leaving
to take over the Arkansas program.

"That is the direction it is heading," the source said.

The Wisconsin State Journal first reported Andersen, 48, was Alvarez's top pick."

The Andersen-coached Utah State played Wisconsin on Sept. 15, when the Badgers squeaked by the Aggies 16-14. This reportedly left a lasting impression on Alvarez. Utah St. defeated Toledo in last Saturday's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 41-15.

Andersen's pre HC resume may have played a part in Alvarez's decision to hire him as well. Before becoming HC at Utah St., Andersen was a def...

Toledo to play Utah State in Potato Bowl

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Utah State and Toledo have accepted invitations to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
For the No. 18 Aggies (10-2), it's a shot at redemption after losing a last-second thriller 24-23 to Ohio in last year's game, while the Rockets (9-3) are headed for their third straight bowl appearance.
"We are excited to prepare for a quality Toledo team that had an outstanding season," said fourth-year Utah State coach Gary Andersen. "Our staff has great respect for Toledo head coach Matt Campbell and the Rockets team. They are very well coached and obviously very talented as they are playing in their third straight bowl game."
The game is scheduled for Dec. 15 and is one of two that will kick off the annual bowl season.
The Aggies are coming off the best season in school history. They set a new team record with 10 victories, won the Western Athletic Conference title outright and went undefeated in conference play for the first time.
The Rockets also posted some historic

No. 18 Utah State, Toledo to play in Potato Bowl

Utah State and Toledo have accepted invitations to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

No. 18 Utah State (10-2) is making its second straight appearance in a game played at the home of Boise State University and its funky blue turf.

The Aggies lost a last-second thriller 24-23 last year against Ohio. They get a shot at redemption on Dec. 15 against the Rockets, another Mid-American Conference team.

Toledo (9-3) is making its third straight trip to the postseason and defeated Air Force in the Military Bowl last year.

Utah State won the Western Athletic Conference title this season and set a school record for wins in a season.

Toledo won eight straight at one point this year, including a victory over No. 18 Cincinnati.

The Brain Trust: Previewing & Picking Wisconsin vs. Utah State

Camp Randall at night - is there anything better than that scene in college football? We surely don't think so. But, usually Camp Randall games at night mean it's conference season or a major out of conference opponent is coming in to town, not a team from the WAC. However, Utah State put the world of college football on notice big time last week taking down Utah for the first time in over a decade.

Wisconsin is coming off a loss we'd all rather forget, so we don't need to harp on it here. So, let's turn our attention to what is ahead for these two teams and how they matchup.

First, let's look at where these teams stack up statistically to see who's got a possible edge and why:
