Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry going to Alabama

Texas Tech women's basketball coach Kristy Curry is headed to Alabama.

Curry guided the Lady Raiders to a 21-11 mark this past season which ended in a first-round loss to South Florida in the NCAA tournament. She was 130-98 in her seven years at Texas Tech.

''I am honored and thrilled to be the next women's basketball coach at the University of Alabama,'' Curry said. ''The Alabama program has tremendous potential and I am very excited to get the chance to lead the Crimson Tide back to national prominence. I want to thank the Alabama administration for the confidence they have shown in me, and for giving me this opportunity. We leave Texas Tech with heavy hearts. Kelly and I owe our deepest gratitude to so many people in the Red Raider family. We will always be grateful to the Texas Tech fans, the administration, the faculty and, most of all, our players.''

Prior to coaching at Texas Tech, Curry spent seven seasons at Purdue where she guided the Boilermakers to NCAA t

Kliff Kingsbury leaves Texas Tech players funny note before break (Picture)

College campuses across the country will be sending students home for the summer over the next couple of weeks, which must be a great source of anxiety for coaches. The less time players spend with their teams, the more opportunities they have to get into trouble and out of shape. Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury is aware of that and is trying to stay ahead of the curve.
Texas Tech offensive lineman Alfredo Morales tweeted the photo you see above on Tuesday, which shows a letter Kingsbury sent to all of his players before they went home for break.
“Also we advise you to be active over break as you will need to be ready to work once June rolls around,” the note read. “Sitting at the house playing COD/2K13/Madden against 12 year olds online doesn’t suffice as ‘activity’ even if you claim to ‘wreck shop.’”
Awesome. As a 33-year-old coach, Kingsbury can certainly relate to his players. He knows how 20-somethings act, considering he just was one about four years ago. I’d rather ...

Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury Sends Great Message to Players

There is something to be said for time and experience. There is also something to be said for being the next great thing, and Texas Tech thinks they have it in their new and very young head coach--and former football standout--Kliff Kingsbury.

Some have pointed at his age and said he isn't ready to be in charge of a major college football program. In a recent message to his players Kingsbury proved that his age is more of a boon to the team than a detriment.

While he may not have the experience on his resume of other coaches being younger gives him an advantage. It was not that long ago that he was a lot like the 18-22 year old kids on his roster. Times and games have changed in the decade since he was one of them, but he is actually young enough to remember what it was like.

And how to talk like them--which he proved in this note he sent out to his players before they took off for summer break:

I will have to admit to not knowing what in the world he was talking about, but thanks to

Kingsbury leaves Texas Tech players special message

You can get over on one of those old ball coaches, those old guys who don't quite know who Jay-Z is and have somebody else type their e-mails for them.

But Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury is a single, 33-year-old man. He was barely out of college when Facebook came out. He knows what's up.

So he sent his players a little message as they exited spring football this year, making all that perfectly known. It included the following message:

Message to all texas tech football players twitter.comAlfredo56TTUs Alfredo Morales (@Alfredo56TTU) May 7, 2013
And he gets all of your The Hangover references, too, so don't even try.

Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury Mocks His Players In Letter For Playing Video Games

Texas Tech’s new head football coach, Kliff Kingsbury, is just 33-years of age. While he may lack the experience that some of his peers have, he’s got an advantage on them in the communication department. Kingsbury demonstrated that this week in a letter to his players before they left for summer break.
Offensive lineman Alfredo Morales posted the photo below:

Message to all texas tech football players twitter.com/Alfredo56TTU/s…
— Alfredo Morales (@Alfredo56TTU) May 7, 2013

That’s right. He’s calling on his players to put down the video game controllers and get to working out. Throw in a few hashtags and the term “wreck shop” and you’ve got a format that’s sure to resonate with the young players he’s working with.
We’ll see how it translates on the field this fall.

Kliff Kingsbury leaves hilarious message for Texas Tech football players

When Kliff Kingsbury was hired as the head coach at Texas Tech this past winter, it was lauded as both a steal for the school and a win for young bros looking for a big break everywhere. After all, it’s not often that a school takes a chance in giving a plush head coaching job to any 33-year-old, let alone one that walks around with the swag of your average 30-something at happy hour every Friday night.

Still, questions did remain about Kingsbury’s hire, specifically on whether or not he was able to discipline a group of football players that were barely older than he was.

Only apparently on Tuesday we got an answer to the question of: “What happens when a bro stops being polite and starts getting real?” And we got it in the most hilarious way possible.

Above is a note Kingsbury left for all his players, as they get set to leave campus for the rest of May. It comes via the Twitter feed of Texas Tech offensive lineman Alfredo Morales, and well, it’s awesome.

	It reads as...

Kingsbury adjusts to being center of attention

Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury hasn't even coached his first football game with the Red Raiders yet but he already has to adjust to a new normal.

The former Tech quarterback was a popular hire in Lubbock.

He just didn't realize how popular he'd be as he's already been featured in Sports Illustrated and his every step is being watched.

"It's been more embarrassing than surreal," Kingsbury said. "I'd like to actually do something on the field before all this other stuff comes into play. It's part of the position. It's part of the job. I'm just going to try and have fun with it."

If Kingsbury wants to know how to deal with extra attention, all he has to do is look to Johnny Manziel, who Kingsbury helped win the Heisman Trophy in his one year as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

While Kingsbury isn't at A&M anymore, he still keeps tabs on Manziel.

Texas Tech, Tubby Smith agree on deal

Tubby Smith is coming to Texas Tech to try to turn around another wayward program.
A person with knowledge of the deal says Texas Tech agreed to terms Monday with Smith on a contract to be its next coach. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.
Smith takes over for interim coach Chris Walker, who went 11-20 this season and just 3-15 in Big 12 play. The program is still reeling from Billy Gillispie's volatile one-year tenure, which ended when he resigned in September.
Smith was fired by Minnesota last week after six seasons. He led them to three NCAA tournaments and this year delivered the program's first tourney win -- over sixth-seeded UCLA -- since 1997.

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury is not your typical college football coach. At the ripe young age of 33, Kingsbury isn’t that far removed from his college days and it shows in his coaching.
This video comes courtesy of a Texas Tech spring practice. Watch as Kingsbury raps along to Notorious B.I.G.’s Juicy and uses lingo like “murdered out” and “turn’t up”; things you would never hear coaches like Nick Saban or Urban Meyer say. Kingsbury is without a doubt the most swagged out coach in the NCAA; now all he needs is Championship ring to rock on his pinky.

New style for Kingsbury at Texas Tech?

Here's the thing about Kliff Kingsbury: He's already the coolest-looking coach in college football. Have you seen this guy? He was one of the first guys in Texas to start wearing the old Oakley Frogskins again, and he always has this ideal part in his hair and the ideal amount of stubble.

Kliff Kingsbury looks like an actor playing Kliff Kingsbury.

But at least one man thinks he could do better with the new Texas Tech coach's image. Have him show up at New York Fashion Week and awards shows. Give him a nickname. Turn him into a B-list celebrity.

No, really. Deadspin got the e-mail that proves it. It's from a Texas Tech alum and Lubbock clothing purveyor named Stephen Spiegelberg. It was sent to Joe Parker, deputy athletic director. Best to pop over there and read the whole thing, but here are some of the highlights:

-- A suggestion to nickname Kingsbury "GQ," "Hollywood" or "Swagger."

-- Hook up Kingsbury with a professional stylist, namely a man named Fre
