Rick Pitino Hung Out With Pitbull Last Night

Rick Pitino was a very happy man on Tuesday evening. Pitino and his son Ryan were in Los Angeles on Tuesday night for a Pitbull concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He was even lucky enough to sneak backstage after the show and meet Pitbull in person.

If you don’t understand the significance of this, Pitino made it very clear at the 2012 Louisville basketball tip-off luncheon that Pitbull, or as Coach P refers to him as, “Mr. Worldwide,” was his favorite artist.
I’m not sure if this was a Father’s Day gift or not, but if it was, props to Ryan.

Rick Pitino and rapper Pitbull meet

Rick Pitino is the man — not only did the Louisville head basketball coach, you know, win a national championship this year, but he’s also having an incredible off-season. First, he had his horse race in the Kentucky Derby, then he caught an 80-pound Marlin in the Bahamas, and then Maker’s Mark created a commemorative bottle that features a nice picture of his face. What could be better? Oh — meeting Pitbull. We already knew that Rick was a fan of Pitbull — his son Rick Jr. got him Pitbull’s autograph when he won his 300th game at Louisville. Well, apparently the two famous figures had a chance to meet up in Miami — and they got to hold hands too. Check out this picture: Coach P finally got to meet @PitBull #NationalChamps #Miami #Louisville RT pic.twitter.com/4GihDlraWf — Joey Wagner (@JoeyJWagner) June 19, 2013 They both look like they really enjoyed themselves. All I’m wondering is this: what could possibly come next for the Hall of Famer?

Gorgui Dieng Calls Out Kentucky Wildcats By Questioning Their Team Chemistry

The 2012-2013 athletic season was phenomenal for Louisville Cardinal fans — the most memorable moment was obviously the men’s basketball team winning the National Championship.
One of those national champion Cardinals, Gorgui Dieng, had some pretty interesting comments recently in an interview before the upcoming NBA Draft — specifically, he was calling out John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats. Dieng thinks that Kentucky, which is said to have the best recruiting class ever, has a chance to win the title, but he doubts the Wildcats’ team chemistry is there. Here’s what he told Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog:

“They always have the best players and always, I don’t want to say best players, they always have the chance but are they going to be a team? We don’t know. You can have a lot of pieces but it’s tough to have a team.”

Dieng also mentioned that he thinks the Cardinals will be better in 2013-14 than they were last year, so everyone else should look out.
These comments, particularly the o

Montrezl Harrell Makes The Final 12-Man Roster For Team USA U19

It was a little over a year ago that the name Montrezl Harrell became popular amongst the Louisville fan base. The North Carolina native had gone somewhat under the radar since he committed to Virginia Tech very early in the recruiting process. Once Seth Greenberg was fired at Virginia Tech and Harrell received a release from his letter of intent, Rick Pitino, with the help of Kevin Keatts turned up the heat on the pursuit of Harrell.
A year later, Harrell is a national champion and will be representing the United States for the second consecutive summer. Harrell has made the final 12-man roster for the Team USA U19 team that will compete in the FIBA U19 World Championships June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.

College World Series 2013: Louisville vs. Oregon St in Elimination Game

The Louisville Cardinals in the Oregon State Beavers look to avoid elimination today in a must win game for both in the 2013 College World Series. Oregon State lost its first-round game against Mississippi State 5-4 when the Bulldogs scored two runs in the go-ahead eighth-inning. Louisville was shut out 2-0 by Indiana in their first round game.Louisville will send Big East pitcher of the year Jeff Thompson (11-1, 2.00 ERA) to the mound and Oregon State will have Ben Wetzler (9-1, 2.11 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 12:08 p.m. PT, or 2:08 p.m. in Omaha and 3:08 on the east coast.Offensively Louisville was only able to muster four hits in its loss to the Bulldogs and as a team is hitting just .241 in six NCAA tournament games in 2013. The Cardinals are looking for big games offensively from Ty Young, Coco Johnson, and Jeff Gardner.“Seems like one of those three guys can, as we say, win a game because if you notice there’s not a lot of runs being scored the last few weeks,”...

Rick Pitino Making Kelly Oubre A Top Priority For The 2014 Class

Kelly Oubre, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound, forward from Sugar Land, TX, had a coming out party last weekend at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Virginia. Oubre isn’t a name we’ve heard much about in regards to Louisville’s top targets in the 2014 class, but that will soon change.
The Texas native told the media over the weekend that Louisville and Kansas are pursuing him the hardest and both schools are currently at the top of his list. Oubre also has scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, UConn, Kansas State, Marquette, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, UCLA and Washington.
Prior to the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Oubre was ranked as the 60th best player in the 2014 class and was rated as a four-star prospect. I suspect that he’ll see a significant climb when the updated rankings are released, considering he the leading scorer at the camp.
I doubt we see a decision from Oubre anytime soon, but at the moment, Louisville appears to be in great shape. I expect he’ll likely take a visit t...

Zach Price Visited Dayton Over The Weekend

Former Louisville center Zach Price made his first college visit over the weekend since deciding to transfer in May.
Price visited the University of Dayton on Saturday. The Cleveland native committed to Louisville in September of 2009, which was very early in the recruiting process considering he graduated high school in 2011.
At the time he committed to Louisville, Price had scholarship offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas and Wake Forest.
As of right now, it’s unclear which schools are pursuing Price, but I do know that there are multiple schools that have reached out and expressed interest.
I imagine Price will visit plenty of schools before making a decision.

Rick Pitino Hopes To Have Another Makers Mark Bottle Signing Event

If you were able to get your Rick Pitino Makers Mark commemorative bottle signed on Thursday at the KFC Yum! Center, consider yourself lucky. Despite producing 12,600 of the bottles, there were only 700 tickets available for the exclusive signing, which sold out online in less than a minute.
There were quite a few Louisville fans who were a little upset about not being able to get a ticket for the signing. Worry no more, Card fans. Rick Pitino has your back.
“I know a lot of people got shut out of this and I’m going to make time throughout the summer,” Pitino said following the signing. “We’ll give them a weeks announcement notice to go somewhere and sign another 300 to 400 at a time so, I’ll make sure I get to them.”
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the future bottle signing event.

Kevin Ware Pays A Visit To Teenage Girl Who Was Recently Struck By A Car

The daughter of Wave3 news anchor John Boel was seriously injured Wednesday night when she and another girl were hit by a car in the east end of Louisville. According to Wave3, Brianna suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg and a broken wrist. Doctors were also monitoring brain bleeding and a possible spine injury.
Boel underwent surgery on Thursday to insert rods into her badly broken leg. Both her tibia and fibula snapped. The injury is very similar to the one that Kevin Ware sustained in the NCAA tournament.
If there is one person who can relate to the traumatic leg injury that Brianna is going through, it’s Kevin Ware himself.
Ware stopped by Kosair Children’s Hospital on Thursday evening to give Brianna some words of encouragement. Ware signed her cast “Pinky promise, you will be fine.”
John Boel shared this on his Facebook page following Ware’s visit.

Louisville In Good Shape With Trey Lyles

One of the top targets for Rick Pitino’s 2014 recruiting class is 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward Trey Lyles.
The former Indiana commit was in Louisville over the weekend participating in the Kentucky vs. Indiana Junior All Star Game. Lyles has had Louisville towards the top of his list for quite some time and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
The Indianapolis native told reporters following Saturday’s All Star game that he speaks with Rick Pitino a couple of times per week. Shortly after winning the national championship, Pitino traveled to Indianapolis for an in home visit.
It has been assumed for a couple of months now that Kentucky was the leader for Lyles, but Jerry Meyer, a national recruiting analyst frpm 247Sports.com seems to think Pitino’s hard work is paying off. Earlier this week Meyer predicted that Lyles would eventually commit to Louisville. He is also considering Butler, Duke and UCLA.
Lyles averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists for Arsenal Tech d...

Louisville Cardinals baseball uniforms inspired by Houston Astros

Not many people look back at the 1970s and 1980s Houston Astros “rainbow stripe” uniforms and think “wow, that look is sharp, we need to be more like those!” But at least one college team has. The Louisville Cardinals burst into the Nashville, Tennessee, Superregional against Vanderbilt with a “shades of red” style uniform that hearkened back to the Nolan Ryan, Jose Cruz, J.R. Richard, Astrodome era Astros duds that have been legendary in terms of criticism among those who dissect baseball’s sartorial splendor. Here is the Louisville version (credit: Adidas via GoCards.com):

J.R. Richard and Nolan Ryan were more intimidating with their 100 MPH fastballs than their duds
The team is playing extremely well in the duds, having upset the Number 2 national seed Vanderbilt Commodores in Game 1 and taking a lead into the late innings of Game 2 as this is published. It’s l

Photo: Adidas rolls out hideous jersey for Louisville

Take a look at the retro uniform the Louisville Cardinals baseball team will be unveiling Sunday afternoon against Vanderbilt in a Super Regional. The rainbow-themed jerseys are reminiscent of the ones previously worn by the Houston Astros once upon a time. Please excuse me while I shield my eyes from the sea of red.The aesthetic assault by Adidas doesn't stop there, though. They are also rolling out retro uniforms for Mississippi State and N.C. State this weekend as the two schools play for the right to advance to the College World Series. The Bulldogs will be donning tops similar to Louisville while the Wolfpack will be channeling the old school Chicago White Sox.Via The Big Lead

NCAA: Ware can't receive gifts

Kevin Ware is a name we know for one main unfortunate reason, and it has nothing to do with his basketball play on the court. Ware was the victim of a freak, and terrible leg injury (the video if you’re interested, though I wouldn’t recommend it) during the NCAA tournament that basically left his leg in two pieces. However, after surgery, Ware is on the road to recovery, and has received an immense amount of support from around the country that was documented by Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports. The sophomore guard has been piled with letters and notes to the point where he has a person in the University Of Louisville’s office dedicated to handling and organizing the plethora of things being sent Ware’s way. Some supporters have taken it a step further, and have sent Ware gifts as a kind gesture. One problem: many of these gifts violate NCAA policy and cannot be accepted. Forde lists some of the gifts that have been returned or used for other purposes: A significant amount of the mail has been flagged for R
