ROTB Survival Pick'em: Week 12 Results and Week 13 Picks

Other then a close game in Atlanta, everybody comfortably moved on to another week of picks. The picking gets harder now, and we're getting closer to the end of the season. In case some of you are wondering what will happen should everyone survive at the end, we will continue into the postseason. On the flip side, if everyone were to be eliminated on the same week, we'd just continue picking as normal. The stats and next week's schedule are after the jump...

Charlie Weiss Fired As Head Coach of Notre Dame
Saying its expectations on the field have not been met, Notre Dame fired coach Charlie Weis on Monday after a string of disappointing seasons that was capped by an agonizing four-game losing streak.

A brash offensive coordinator with the NFL champion New England Patriots when he was hired five years ago, Weis excited the Irish faithful with back-to-back appearances in BCS bowl games in his first two seasons. Since then, one of the natio...

Time is running short on the last year of the '00s, so it's time to dive into the daunting task of ranking the NFL's best of the decade. Best what? Best everything. We're going with a series of top 10 lists, and if something miraculous happens between now and December 31st, well, we'll just have to catch it at the end of 2019.

New England Patriots @ New Orleans Saints: Chat with Another Enemy

Welcome in to today's second round of questions and answers with a blogger representing the opposing team. This time around I've wandered off the reservation and talked with Bruce Allen of Patriots Daily. Patriots Daily is a very classy, very respectable football blog, especially considering it's not part of the SB Nation family. I highly recommend a look.
Below you'll find Bruce's take on the Patriots, the Saints and their meeting tonight as he answers five of m...

Butch Davis Watch 2009

And here I thought we were going to make it through this season without having to do this dance. As you probably know, Charlie Weis will soon be a consultant for some playoff bound NFL team(probably New England) and the self deluded folks in South Bend will be on the prowl for a new head coach. Naturally Butch Davis’ name is in the mix.

Butch Davis, North Carolina coach: Has pedigree from Miami days and winning with good defense in a so-so spot at North Carolina. Age (58), cancer scare in ‘07 have to be factors.

Let me go on record right now and say this is not going to happen. I just don’t see Butch Davis jumping into that mess given the academic restrictions and that fan base. No worries right? Well not so fast. The danger of Butch Davis potentially leaving is not with any of the job presently open but rather what happens when the dominoes start to fall. Last week when there was talk of Rich Rodriguez being done at Michigan my first thought was whether LSU might pursue Davis if Les Miles went to Michigan. This is the same deal. If Notre Dame hires Bob Stoops away from Oklahoma does Davis, with ties in the Texas and Arkansas(fertile recruiting ground for Oklahoma) become a prime candidate for that job? I would think so.

Bottom line. There is nothing to see right now but watch out once the coaching carousel gets moving.

Kickoff is set for 7:30pm Central (8:30pm Eastern) in the Superdome in this massive matchup between the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints. The Saints' full injury report can be found HERE. Lance Moore and Tracy Porter can both be assumed out, but beyond that I see everyone playing except maybe Randall Gay. Reggie Bush is listed as questionable, as is Jabari Greer, so while they are both game time decisions I would assume they'll make every effort to play in this game.I&#...

Good morning Saints fans. Ready for the big game tonight? It's a little ways away, so to help get you through your day I've saved everyone's favorite weekly post, Chat with the Enemy, for last. As usual, I posed a few questions to the appropriate SB Nation blogger, this week being New England's writer, MaPatsFan, from Pats Pulpit.
But wait...there's more!...

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost their third straight on Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens. It was one helluva entertaining game, with fans across the country having to fight back the onset of cardiac arrest on multiple occasions throughout the game. But I'll save my thoughts on the heartbreaking loss for just a bit.
Harrison and Dungy weigh in on Favre

The analysts at NBC are big fans of Brett Favre.

Former New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison and former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy praised the play of Favre.

"Right now, he's playing better than his three previous MVP seasons," Harrison said.

Said Dungy, "I would vote for him."

The latter comment is significant, since Dungy coached Peyton Manning, who leads the undefeated Colts.

No matter how hard I try to wrap my mind around the win today, I just can't.
Some things just shouldn't happen.
Today, the Colts posted a comeback unlike any of the their others. They beat a desperate team, on the road, without Freeney, after playing like crap for a half. They had the Texans scared even while trailing big. I've never seen anything quite like it. Wins like this just don't happen in the NFL.

If you look at the nfl.com stats by team, the Saints make their mark in only 2 categories: 1st in Total Offense and 5th in Rushing Offense. That's not burning up the field. A closer look also reveals they give up a lot of yardage and points on defense. So, how is it that they win games if their defense is giving up so much? The answer is offense. Drew...
