Glen Miller: Jackets Best Bet Might Be To Hang Onto Richards........Again

When John Davidson made the decision to terminate Scott Howson and to replace him with Jarmo Kekalainen as the club’s general manager I figured it was a virtual inevitability that head coach Todd Richards would follow Howson out the door. After all most new GM’s rarely keep the coach they inherited for long and for obvious reasons prefer to hire their own guy regardless of the job done by the...

Women’s History Month: 10 Questions with Kelly Clark, Professional Snowboarder & Olympic Gold Medalist

Everyday this month, Double G Sports will be featuring interviews from prominent women in the sports industry as our way of celebrating Women’s History Month. This project is in its 2nd year. Today’s interview is with professional snowboarder and Olympic Gold Medalist, Kelly Clark.
Kelly Clark
1. Where did your appreciation for the sport of snowboarding and your drive to be a professional come from growing up?
I always enjoyed being outside and doing sports growing up. My parents were really supportive and encouraged me to be active and go after my dreams. I was never pushed to pursue snowboarding or any sport for that mater, my parents really left it up to me. There were no X-games or Olympics when I started snowboarding at the age of 7, i always say I started before it was cool. In high school is really when my Olympic dreams developed and it was then that I knew what I wanted to pursue.
2. With three Olympic appearances to your name, Sochi 2014 is on the horizon. Is there a “be...

Runaway snowmobile plows into crowd

Australian Jackson Strong had spent only four hours on his snowmobile before tonight’s X Games appearance where he crashed his sled, according to ESPN’s Jamie Little. The throttle stuck on the snowmobile, sending the machine into a crowd of spectators. Little later reported that a male was injured when the sled slammed into the crowd. Strong was competing in the Winter X Games after taking gold in last summer’s Moto X at the Summer Games. Little reported tonight that Strong was inspired to try his motocross trick on a snowmobile. The result? A runaway sled. Filed under: Other Sports

Shaun White cut his hair for charity (Video)

Shaun White became famous for winning gold medals at the Olympics in snowboarding, but his striking long red hair is what truly made him recognizable. When he won his first gold medal at the Torino Olympics in 2006, he became known as “The Flying Tomato,” which was a play on his aerial abilities and his red hair. Six years later, White cut ties to his most identifiable feature when he decided to cut his hair for charity. In a video posted on YouTube Tuesday, White was seen getting his long red hair cut for “Locks of Love.” White said he had been thinking about cutting his hair for a while, and he decided to do it for a good cause. According to its website, “Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most ...

Shaun White cuts off hair for charity

We’ve always been huge fans of Shaun White. Great guy on and off camera, we know he’s had a few run in’s recently, but he’s a pro snowboarder not the Governor of New York. He’s always been more of a rockstar then role model, but this just about makes up for it all. White has cut his signature red hair for a great cause, Locks of Love. The Olympic gold medal winner and 24-time X Games medalist just made a major classy move and is awarded 1000 cool points. Check out our September interview with Shaun here

Shaun White's $3.85M crib on private beach

Shaun White is a rock star. He’s 26-years old, a global snowboarding icon, gold medalist and worth millions upon millions of dollars. He’s even been known to trash a hotel room, an act which got him his first-ever shred of negative attention back in September, and people barely ever talked about it. Why didn’t anyone care? Because when you’re a young, long-haired “extreme” athlete, people expect you to be wasted, cause ruckus in a hotel, pull fire alarms and get punched while trying to escape. That’s the gosh-darned American celebrity way of life right there.Oh, and the other reason nobody really talked about it? Because everyone was still so busy freaking out over the rumors from the 2012 Summer Olympics regarding White dating super duper model Bar Refaeli. Seriously, people were going nuts over that, like, “How the hell is that gorgeous super model dating that redheaded dude?” as if he was the real life version of Rocky Dennis. Gee, I sure do wonder why that gorgeous woman was att...

White to undergo alcohol treatment

Two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White cut a deal with prosecutors and will undergo alcohol treatment, perform 24 hours of community service, and pay restitution to the Nashville hotel that he allegedly trashed while drunk last September. TMZ reports that prosecutors will drop the public intoxication charge against White if he fulfills his end of the bargain by January 25. They’ve already dismissed the vandalism charge.

Shaun White arrested

Shaun White was arrested after allegedly causing a stir at a hotel in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday morning, and then trying to leave the scene.
White is alleged to have pulled a fire alarm causing all the hotel guests to evacuate, and according to WKRN-TV in Nashville, a hotel employee saw him destroy a hotel phone.
White apparently tried grabbing a cab to leave the scene outside the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, but another person was able to stop him from fleeing. Only one problem — White is said to have kicked the person. The person tried chasing White, who eventually crashed into a fence. That could be how he got the black eye.
He was charged with public intoxication and vandalism.
Just another typical night out on the town for the snowboarder/skateboarder extraordinaire!

Witness the majesty of Shaun White’s perfect 100 in X Games SuperPipe (Video)

Shaun White cinched his fifth-straight gold medal in Sunday night’s SuperPipe final at the Winter X Games. And that was before he notched a perfect score on his final run, the first perfect 100 in snowboard halfpipe history.
White, in all the glory of his flowing red locks and tight, white, animal-print pants, secured the win with a 94 on Run 1, giving him two victory runs to unload his newest trick, a frontside double cork 1260–a trick nobody has ever landed in competition. After falling trying to land it on Run 2, White nailed it at the end of his historic third run. As the video shows, he also threw down some other neato tricks with crazy names. His five straight X Games golds in the contest are also a first.
There was a time earlier in the week when this competition was in question for White, considered by many the face of the sport. White sprained his ankle during Slopestyle practice last Thursday, causing him to sit out that event and jeopardizing his participation in Sunday’s...

If this isn't the video of the week I'm not sure what is. This video is a mash up of some of the hottest female action sport athletes doing what they do best. From snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, to skier Linsey Vonn, to surfer Alana Blanchard there isn't much in this video that will let you down. Huge props to BNQT for putting the video together.
