Being the Best is Tough Sometimes

One of the drawbacks of success is that everyone wants a piece…

Over the years, Pat Summitt's assistant coaches have routinely been courted by others. This year, however, is appears that the Lady Vols are getting raided. First, UCLA came seeking Nikki Caldwell to take over as their head coach. Now, the South Carolina Gamecocks — in the wake of player conduct issues which would make even Nick Saban wince — are talking to Associate Head Coach Holly Warlick.

Geno, Geno, Geno…

Apparently, Geno Auriemma simply couldn't fight the urge to run his mouth one last time. At a press conference wrapping up the 2007-08 season, Geno jumped on the chance to get in a dig on Pat Summitt over the cancellation of the regular season Tennessee vs. Connecticut series and "Tour-gate." Nevermind the fact that — since the season is over and the UConn Huskies weren't around as one of the last two teams standing — no one gives two shits about his opinion at this point. Geno, being his usual blowhard self, went straight ahead and got those gums a-flappin'

Pressure Busts Pipes Lady Vols Do It Again!!!!!!!!

Yes I'm gonna say it ,I told you so!, Lady Vols are once again CHAMPS. Tennessee played GREAT defense from the gates just imposing their will on Candice Wiggins and the Stanford Cardinal. Everyone stepped up, who would've thought Nicki Anosike would have 6 teals, Shannon Bobbitt scored in the double digit range, that game was the shit. I've never seen defense played like that through out the entire game. Pat Summitt is a GREAT coach 983 W's and 182 L's, I dont need to say more than that.
Everyone was talking trash saying that they wouldnt hold Stanford under 50 points even 3 of the analysts picked Stanford, but I guess they forgot Tennessee has been there done that, and Stanford hadnt been there in 11 years. I mean yeah they played bad against LSU, but did they really think that the Lady Vols we're going to lay an egg during the CHIP? Well those that did look mighty stupid right now. Now I just hope the L.A. Sparks dont draft Candace Parker, only because I hate em so damn much. But No matter where she goes I'll be cheering Candace on, it's just going to be hard if its in a Sparks jersey, ok let me stop saying Sparks before I puke. My WNBA team is the Houston Comets with Michelle Snow (another Tennessee great) and Tina Thompson, even though Sheryl Swoopes is now in Seattle she's still a Comet to me.

Tennessee edges LSU, 47-46, headed to the title game

In the lowest scoring game in Final Four history, Tennessee's Alexis Hornbuckle made a shot with less than a second left to send the Lady Vols to the title game. Tennessee's Candace Parker went 6-for-27 after dislocating her shoulder twice against Texas A&M. Sylvia Fowles led LSU with 24 points and 20 rebounds, but was limited with leg cramps in the final minutes.

Women's Final Four!!!!!

I can't wait till Sunday. But I'm torn. I'm a Tiger & Vol fan...but I'd reallly like LSU to win because they've had to kind of start over with a new coach, haven't won a championship yet (I don't think), and might not do too well after their seniors leave. Not to say that they're not in good hands with Vance Chancelor...but who knows how long it will take to reconnect a team with a bunch of new players. On the other hand, I think the Tennessee is awesome...especially Parker. She's definitely going to do well in the WNBA. And Pat Summit is the ultimate coach...male or female. Well, we'll see "who reigns supreme" in a few days. Cheers!

Stanford upsets No. 1 Maryland behind Wiggins' 41 points

Stanford blew past No. 1 Maryland on Monday, 98-87. Stanford's Candace Wiggins scored 41 points and became the first player ever to score 40 or more points twice in one NCAA Tournament. Her 44 points last week against UTEP was the third-most points scored by a player in NCAA Tourney history and the most since Shery Swoopes' 47 in 1993. The most points ever scored in the Tourney is 50 by Drake's Lorri Bauman in 1983.

LSU upsets No. 1 North Carolina

LSU stunned No. 1 North Carolina Monday with a 56-50 victory. Sylvia Fowles led LSU with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots. She simply dominated. The win marked the fifth consecutive year LSU has made it to the Final Four and snapped UNC's 16-game winning streak. UNC had to play before a raucous LSU crowd in New Orleans. UNC came into the game with five players averaging double figures in points, but only LaToyle Pringle scored more than nine points (21 points, 11 rebounds).

Homophobia prevalent in women's college basketball

This recently aired on ESPN's "Outside the Lines." The segment talks about how lesbians are avoided in women's college basketball. Some coaches and players have quit because of the uncomfortable situation. "The climate" is supposed to be a code word around the league for how many lesbians are on a team. It is a topic that should be discussed further. The below link includes the "Outside the Lines" segment.

Tennessee Needs To Let It Go

Word has it that someone in Tennessee has applied for (FOI) Freedom of Information rights to the documents on file with the NCAA regarding the secondary violations UConn self-reported in the Maya Moore case.

Let it go!! Jeez!

And everyone seems to be all up in UConns ass about all this, why dont someone ask Pat why exactly she ended the series and keep on her ass until she gives a real answer. And while they are at it, why dont they check the documents regarding Maya Moore to see if in fact she was the one that has been having hissy fits and trying her hardest to get UConn in some kind of trouble??

And in the meanwhile while Tennessee and Pat are still going ape shit over all of this, the NCAA has concluded its investigation concerning the involvement of the UConn women's basketball program for arranging a tour of ESPN for Maya Moore and her mother in 2005.

UConn was admonished for a "secondary violation" for inadertantly arranging what's' considered an improper benefit for Moore, who was then a junior at Collins Hill High in Suwanee, Ga. "Concerning the recent reports relating to our women's basketball program, the University of Connecticut maintains a strong commitment to NCAA rules compliance," the university said in a prepared statement. "After learning of allegations last year, the University and the NCAA have completed their review of all the facts andcircumstances.

"This review resulted in a self-reported secondary violation. The institution worked cooperatively with the Association and information was recently submitted following standard NCAA procedures. The University and the NCAA now consider this matter closed."

UConn would not say what the penalty for the violation was, but similiar incidents in the past have resulted simply in a letter of reprimand placed in the school's file.

The incident was originally reported by ESPN last week. The Southeastern Conference, on behalf of Tennessee and the University of Georgia, filed on a complaint against UConn for its action. ESPN has since cancelled future tours for student-athletes.

Hatin' on Maya Moore

According to Courant.com, UCONN committed a minor recruitment violation by arranging for then high school junior Maya Moore a tour of ESPN studios in Bristol, NY. The article says that the compliant was given by Tennessee and was investigated by the SEC. This complaint comes just days after Maya Moore was announced the The Big East player of the year, the first ever for a freshman. This infraction is being called an "improper benefit"........are you kidding me? Now if she was given some face time on Sportscenter at that time, or was able to argue with Mike Wilbon on PTI or meet Michael Smith(I just love him), then maybe you can call it an improper benefit, but just a tour of the studio, PUHLEASE! Just let the girl enjoy her remarkable season and let her bask in the glow of her award without all the hate!!
