Miguel Cabrera gets help from Indians outfielder on home run

In the top of the eighth inning between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians, Miguel Cabrera continued his hot streak with a little bit of help. Cabrera hit a ball deep to the warning track, but it was going to come up short of being a home run until Indians outfielder Michael Bourn misplayed the catch. Bourn mistimed the jump and the ball hit the outside of his glove and bounced over the wall for a two-run home run. The home run gave the Tigers an 11-7 lead, which ended up being the final score of the game.
Miguel Cabrera continues his TORRID pace, hitting his 5th HR in 3 games. Tigers win marathon game over Indians, 11-7.

Michael Bourn Tips Miguel Cabrera Fly Ball Into the Seats for a Home Run: Video

How red hot is Miguel Cabrera right now? Well, he turned a fly ball to the warning track Wednesday night into his fifth homer in three games, thanks to a huge assist from Cleveland’s Michael Bourn.
With the Tigers up 9-7 in the eighth inning, Cabrera smacked a high drive to deep right-center field. Bourn, though, raced back to the wall and had room to reach up and make the grab … except the ball hit the heel of his glove and ricocheted over the fence for a two-run homer.
Both Bourn and Cabrera reacted with a smile — Bourn out of embarrassment, Cabrera apparently out of joyful surprise. Here’s the play:

Can Mike Trout snatch the MVP?

On May 21st, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout became the youngest American League player to hit for the cycle since 1930 at 21 years old.
The second year phenom won AL rookie of the year in 2012 and he also finished second for the league’s MVP award, behind only Miguel Cabrera.
But will Trout be able to dethrone the reigning MVP for the title in 2013?
As of May 22nd, the Angel in the outfield is hitting .297 with 34 RBI.
He has avoided the sophomore slump in nearly every facet as he continues to devour the MLB pitcher by pitcher.

Michael Bourn assists on Miguel Cabrera home run (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes.
Miguel Cabrera is in search of another Triple Crown with the Detroit Tigers this year, and he certainly doesn’t need any help from his opponents along the way. Cabrera has hit five home runs in his last three games and has 13 on the season. Had it not been for a little assistance from Cleveland Indians center fielder Michael Bourn, his total would be sitting at 12.
Cabrera hit a fly ball to deep center field in the eighth inning of Wednesday night’s 11-7 win that looked like it was playable for Bourn. Instead, it bounced off his glove and popped over the fence for a two-run homer that padded Detroit’s lead.
We know one Philadelphia Phillies outfielder who knows exactly how Bourn feels, but at least his flub came during spring training. Handing a home run to one of the best players in the league during the regular season has to sting a bit.

Michael Bourn Blows Catch, Helps Flip Miguel Cabrera’s Fly Ball Over Fence for Home Run (Video)

If you’re looking for very advanced sabermetrics, consider the outfield assist — to the other team.
The Braves’ Michael Bourn gave the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera quite the hand (or glove?) Wednesday night on a deep fly ball in the eighth inning. Cabrera cranked a beauty into the outfield that appeared to be just short of a home run, but the benevolent Bourn coughed up the catch and instead helped the ball go the rest of the way for a homer.
The Tigers were already up 9-7, so the two-run homer didn’t decide the fate of the game, but Bourn will likely hear about this one again. (He did not appear pleased after the play.)

Your browser does not support iframes.Someone cue the Yakety Sax music.Cleveland Indians center fielder Michael Bourn committed a baseball folly Wednesday night that even former MLBer Jose Canseco is laughing at.Bourn's embarrassing play came with one out and a runner aboard in the eighth inning of Cleveland's game against the Detroit Tigers. The man at the plate was none other than Miguel Cabrera, which judging by the stats, doesn't need any extra help from the defense. But that's exactly what Cabrera got from Bourn Wednesday night at Progressive Field.Watch as Cabrera smashes a deep drive toward the wall in center that sends Bourn racing back to the edge of the warning track. It appears as though Cabrera's ball is going to come up just shy of being a home run until Bourn inexplicably has the ball pop out and over the fence while trying to secure the catch. It's something you have to see more than once on replay to believe.Cabrera is all smiles as he roun...

Twins desperate to end losing streak vs. Tigers

Miguel Cabrera is proving his Triple Crown season of 2012 was no fluke, as he sits at or near the top of the AL in seemingly each statistical category yet again. The reigning MVP looks to extend his hitting streak while helping Detroit deal the visiting Minnesota Twins a ninth consecutive defeat Thursday night.

After leading the league with a .330 average, 44 homers and 139 RBIs last season, Cabrera has started 2013 right where he left off. He's leading the majors in hitting at .387.

Cabrera's 26 homers against the Twins are his second-most versus any team, and he's also hitting .323 lifetime against them. That may not bode well for a Minnesota team that hasn't gotten much help from its pitching staff during its slide.

The Twins (18-25) fell 8-3 at Atlanta on Wednesday, as Vance Worley gave up eight runs in 3 2-3 innings. Minnesota starters have a 8.41 ERA and have lasted more than 4 1-3 innings only twice during the skid.

The rotation's 5.69 ERA on the season is second-worst to only Ho

Cabrera, Tigers down Indians 11-7 on rainy night

CLEVELAND (AP) --Justin Verlander overcame a rocky start and rain delay to get his fifth win and Miguel Cabrera hit another homer as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 11-7 on Wednesday night, sweeping the two-game series between the AL Central's top teams.
Verlander (5-4) was two outs from qualifying for a victory, when the game was stopped with the Tigers leading 9-5 in the fifth. The right-hander came back after the weather break and finished the inning to get the win, ending a run of five straight victories by the Indians over former Cy Young winners.
The game was delayed 62 minutes by rain in the fifth and another 48 minutes in the eighth.
Victor Martinez hit two sacrifice flies off Ubaldo Jimenez (3-3) as the Tigers, who led 9-2 in the fifth, held on to move within one-half game of the first-place Indians.
After the second rain delay, Cabrera connected for a two-run homer off reliever Rich Hill.
It was the slugger's fifth homer in three games and 13th this season. The shot to right-ce

Your browser does not support iframes.Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera suffered a scary brush Tuesday night. The moment came in the top of the fifth inning when teammate Matt Tuiasosopo ripped a sharp line drive in the direction of Cabrera, who was sitting attentively at the end of the visiting dugout.
Miguel Cabrera ignores tattooed chick begging for foul ball, gives it to hotter girl

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter on the planet, and quite possibly the best hitter of our generation. When he’s not hitting home runs, it appears he is scoping out the attractive girls in the stands. On Tuesday night during the Tigers game against the Cleveland Indians he got ready to toss a foul ball to a fan in the stands. A tattooed girl was begging for the baseball and Miguel was right next to her, but he chose to keep walking by her to toss it to the more attractive girl sitting next to her. Yes, Miguel is married, but it appears he prefers girls that aren’t tattooed.

Cabrera laughed it off playfully but there is no doubt Manager Jim Leyland would have had some choice words for “Big Matt” had he injured the franchise player.

Video: Tigers' Cabrera ducks foul ball

Nobody can get Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera out these days.

Heading into Wednesday night's game in Cleveland, he was batting a whopping .384 with 49 RBIs and 12 homers. He hit three homers in Sunday's loss at Texas, then clobbered another in Tuesday's win at Cleveland.

What opposing pitchers haven't been able to -- knock Cabrera out -- one of his own teammates nearly took care of Tuesday night.

A foul ball off Matt Tuiasosopo's bat barely missed hitting the noggin of Cabrera, who was perched in the Tigers' dugout.

Watch the above video to see Cabrera's reaction to the near-miss.

MLB.com Tigers rookie outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo nearly became public enemy number one in Detroit. During Tuesday’s game in Cleveland, he almost took off Miguel Cabrera’s head with a foul ball. And it almost appeared he did it on purpose (we know he didn’t). Tuiasosopo just missed clobbering a Corey Kluber fastball that, judging by Cabrera’s reaction, he thought was a lollipop. On the very next pitch, Tuiasosopo sent a screamer into the Tigers dugout that scared the superhuman daylights out of Miggy. And right on cue, Fox Sports Detroit’s Mario Impemba and Rod Allen were talking about Barry Bonds had just been quoted as saying that Cabrera has more fun than any other player in baseball. Cabby had some fun with nearly getting his head taken off, which I didn’t even know was possible. [Video via MLB.com]

Scherzer shuts down Indians as Tigers win 5-1

CLEVELAND -- Max Scherzer took care of the Indians winning streak Tuesday night. And if there was a lingering doubt he wouldnt, which there wasnt, Miguel Cabrera made sure.Which is pretty much what a reigning MVP who is off to an incredible start does.Clevelands 5-1 loss came down to Scherzer being nearly unhittable. After giving up two hits, a hard-hit sacrifice fly and a run in the first inning, he went the next seven perfectly. As in no hits, no walks, no errors. And his last pitch in the eighth was his 118th, to Drew Stubbs. It struck him out. And went 98 miles per hour. That was a dominant performance, Indians manager Terry Francona said.It was one of those nights when a pitcher was just too good.He has some nasty stuff, first of all, said center fielder Michael Bourn. We were looking for mistakes, and he didnt make a lot of mistakes.Scherzer was near perfect, as the numbers show. He improved to 6-0 by setting down the last 22 Indians he faced.I tip my hat to him, Bourn said. A good pitcher can shut you down

Miguel Cabrera Continues to Dominate Baseball

Mark Blinch / Reuters file
Less than a year ago, Miguel Cabrera became the first player in the past 45 years to win the prestigious Triple Crown (leading the league in home runs, RBI, and batting average). The Detroit Tigers third baseman is making a bid to accomplish this feat again, in consecutive seasons nonetheless, something that has never been done in the history of Major League Baseball.
While it is still early, Cabrera currently leads the league with a batting average of .387 and a total of 47 RBI. With 11 home runs, he is only two off the league lead, which is shared by Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis and New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who both have 13.
Cabrera continued his dominance Sunday night against the Texas Rangers, smashing three home runs while driving in four runs and scoring another four. As of Tuesday morning, he is currently on pace to hit 42 HRs and tally 181 RBI. While it may not be realistic to keep up those numbers the rest of ...

Barry Bonds: Miguel Cabrera is ‘the absolute best’ . . .but I’m still better

The Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera is probably the best player in all of baseball. It is tough to argue with at this very moment. His body of work over the past several seasons cannot be matched by anyone in all of Major League Baseball. Last year, he captured the Triple Crown, the first time anyone had done that in 45 years. This helped him capture the AL MVP award over Mike Trout, who himself had a historically great season as well. But once again, Cabrera is on pace to win the Triple Crown, and he might do it in an even more dominating fashion. You would wonder why any team would bother pitching to him at this point. It would not be a stretch to say that Cabrera is the most feared hitter in all of baseball, much like Barry Bonds was a decade ago. Bonds, regardless of the cloud of performance-enhancing drugs, is one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball. He dominated baseball games in a way that is very similar to what Cabrera is doing now. USA Today decided to speak t...

Yes People, Miguel Cabrera is that Good. Maybe the Best Ever

The whole nation got to watch the fireworks last night on Sunday Night Baseball. Miguel Cabrera put on a show despite his team falling in the contest. A 4-4 night with three colossal home runs will do that for you. All of them came with two strikes and were either hit to the deepest part of the ball park, or to the opposite field. This massive performance has sparked the discussion about whether or not Cabrera belongs in the discussion of being the best player of a generation. I took the time to compile stats from every hall of fame position player who played their entire career from 1950 to the modern era to see how he compares.
To all those who still don’t think he’s that good, just take a look at how he compares to the all time greats.

Detroit Tigers Recall Luke Putkonen, Option Evan Reed

The Detroit Tigers have recalled right-handed reliever Luke Putkonen from their Triple-A Toledo minor league affiliate. To make room for Putkonen on the active roster, the Tigers have decided to option right-handed reliever Evan Reed to the same farm club. Look for Putkonen to pitch in the middle innings for the parent club.

Can Miguel Cabrera Challenge Pete Rose’s All-Time Hits Record?

Miguel Cabrera put on a show for a national-TV audience Sunday night (albeit in a Detroit Tigers loss), smacking three home runs off Rangers pitching. One season after winning the Triple Crown, he’s threatening to do so again — he’s currently carrying a .387 average with 11 homers and 47 RBI.
There’s little question left that we are watching one of baseball’s all-time best hitters play the game. And now the question becomes: If he stays healthy, just how great can he be?
That is the inquiry at the heart of a short post on the Wall Street Journal’s website, wsj.com. Specifically, Darren Everson wonders, is Cabrera the player who can threaten Pete Rose’s all-time hits mark of 4,256?

Caveats and disclaimers: There is a long way to go to 4,256, Rose’s all-time career hits record. Laughably long. Others also have been well ahead of Rose at this age, according to Baseball-Reference.com. Like Alex Rodriguez.
But if anyone is ever going to break Rose’s record, three attributes will be required: sk
