Stanford Romps Cornell: Anatomy Of A Beatdown

Stanford 77, Cornell 53, needless to say, I didn't expect this. I join, uhh.... myself, in the legion of surprised NCAA Tournament prognosticators after Stanford's domination of the Cornell men's cagers yesterday. The boys from Ithaca were a little more Telemachus than Odysseus against the Cardinal, it was ugly out there.
Within the first three minutes of the game, it was obvious that the Big Red was slower, shorter and much less athletic than their adversaries from Palo Alto. The Cornellians knew they had to hit a lot of 3's to have a chance, and came out firing. Firing and missing. I think the Big Red was 1-9 from three land at one point.

By The Way, Cornell Is Beating Stanford On Thursday

Okay I may have officially lost it, I'm convinced that Cornell will pull an opening round upset over Stanford in Anaheim on Thursday. I don't know if the fact that the program hasn't been to the NCAA tournament since 1988 has altered my judgement, but I'm 99.9% sure of a Cornell upset. I was even able to find someone who agrees.

What did I find shocking about selection Sunday? Arizona getting the nod over Arizona State? Virginia Tech getting snubbed despite the fact that they just beat #7 seed Miami and gave #1 seed UNC a run for their money in the ACC tournament? Hardly. I was shocked to see that the Cornell Big Red only got a 14 seed. Cornell is the hottest team in the country, running off 16 straight wins following a loss to Duke at Cameron. The refs were probably Duke homers. Cornell also boasts an undefeated conference record, I expected at least a 12 seed.

Damn Dukies win another easy one over Cornell

Honestly, will Duke play somebody? The Blue Devils were led by DeMarcus Nelson's 23 points and 8 boards and aided by Kyle Singler's 14 points and 8 rebounds to defeat Cornell 81-67. I can't wait to see the Devils face some ACC action like the Heels did today.
