Name: Tony Snell Age: 21 School: New Mexico

Height: 6’7 Weight: 198 Projected Position: SF

	2012-13 Stats:

	12.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.9 apg, 0.8 spg, 2.1 tpg (31.2 minutes per game)

	42.2 FG%, 84.3 FT%, 39.0 3FG%

	Offense

	Perimeter Shooting

Snell has continued to improve his jumper throughout his college career. He does a good job getting square to the basket, gets good lift from his legs, and has a smooth, high release. Snell is much better a spot up shooter and needs to work on hitting his jumper off the dribble. He has range out to the college 3-point line, and with some work, should be able to hit the NBA 3 with some consistency. Where Snell is at his best is moving without the ball, and he is very good at using screens and quick cuts to get open. He needs to work though on coming off screens and getting square and ready to shoot the ball.
Tony Snell, Glen Rice Jr. highlight pre-draft workout

ST. FRANCIS, Wis. -- The battle was so intense between Glen Rice Jr. and Tony Snell during Tuesday's draft workout at the Cousins Center that all Snell could do was smile and laugh when asked about it.
The two wing prospects went at it as the main attraction in Milwaukee's first draft workout, as Rice and Snell were joined by Syracuse forward James Southerland, Iowa State guard Will Clyburn. Marquette point guard Junior Cadougan and Dakota State guard Tyrone Gordon filled out the workout.
Afterward, Bucks director of scouting Billy McKinney said the four in Milwaukee on Tuesday are wing players that the team is looking at right now.
Different mock drafts have Rice, Snell and Southerland all over the places. Rice is ranked as the 23rd best player in the draft by ESPN.com's Chad Ford, going 26th overall by Draft Express, but going 34th overall by NBADraft.net.
Ford has Snell as the 33rd best player in the draft, while NBADraft.net has the former New Mexico guard going 19th overall. Draft Express has

New Mexico guard Tony Snell will forgo his senior season to enter the NBA draft.

The 21-year-old Snell made the announcement at a Monday news conference on the school's Albuquerque campus.

The 6-foot-7 Snell says ''in my heart, I feel like it's a good decision to leave now.''

Is The Mountain West Overrated?

As the second day of the NCAA Tournament tips off, one of the main stories of the first day was another bad showing from the Mountain West Conference. Colorado St. got by Missouri, but No. 3 seeded New Mexico, a Final Four favorite for some, and No. 5 UNLV both lost yesterday. UNLV went ice cold from the field and lost to an under seeded Cal team, and New Mexico was dropped by Harvard, who achieved their first ever NCAA tournament victory. Scott Van Pelt, on Mike & Mike earlier in the week and on Twitter yesterday (@notthefakeSVP), touted the view that Mountain West teams manipulated their RPI by playing non-Division I teams instead of low Division I teams with RPIs under 200. In playing a non-Division I team, your RPI doesn’t dip because the game isn’t calculated in the RPI formula where beating a team with a low-RPI drags down your RPI. The Mountain West, after a 1-2 performance yesterday, went to 16-36 in the NCAAs, 6-29 vs. Power Six Conferences. Does the Mountain West with high RPIs d

Poor Steve Alford Is Now Just 1-3 as a #3 Seed

The most significant upset from the first full day of NCAA Tournament action was 14th-seeded Harvard’s 68-62 takedown of Steve Alford’s third-seeded New Mexico Lobos. A 14 beating a 3 seems like it should be a big deal. It’s a major upset and something that has only happened 17 times in NCAA Tournament history. But the definition of “major upset” changes when Steve Alford is involved. Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, 3 seeds have done very well in their first tournament game, as long as they are in no way affiliated with Steve Alford. Alford-less 3 seeds have won 87 percent of their games against 14 seeds in the round of 64, posting a record of 94-14. But 3 seeds for whom Alford is a coach or player win only 25 percent of their games (1-3) in the round of 64. From what I can gather, Steve Alford is the only person to have suffered the indignity of opening the NCAA Tournament with a loss to a 14 seed more than once. He’s done it three times, with three differen...

Harvard Heavy Underdogs Against New Mexico in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

If Harvard’s basketball team is going to win its first NCAA tournament game it will be a big surprise, as the Ivy League champion Crimson open as 11-point underdogs against Mountain West champion New Mexico for Thursday’s game in Salt Lake City.
Could Thursday’s game be the last for Harvard coach Tommy Amaker? No. 14 Harvard definitely has its work cut out against the third-seeded Lobos. It’s the best seed that New Mexico has received in the Big Dance.
Lobos coach Steve Alford has the school in the NCAA tournament for the second straight season. UNM defeated Long Beach State 75-68 in the Round of 64 last year before falling to Louisville 59-56 in the second round. The Lobos are 2-2 under Alford all-time in the NCAA tournament.
The Mountain West Conference sent five teams to the NCAA tournament, and the Lobos (29-5) won the regular-season title by two games. They beat UNLV 63-56 on the Rebels’ home court in the conference tournament championship game on Saturday.

No. 15 New Mexico 63, UNLV 56

Tony Snell scored 13 straight points for New Mexico during a second-half run as the No. 15 Lobos pulled away late Saturday to beat UNLV 63-56 and add the Mountain West tournament title to their regular season crown.

Snell carried New Mexico (29-5) down the stretch, making three 3-pointers and adding a pair of field goals as the Lobos took over in the last 8 minutes of the game to win the conference title and the rubber game of the series between the two teams this season.

Snell scored 21 points, but it was a streak beginning with a 3-pointer that put New Mexico up 49-45 with 8:11 left that sealed the game. Conference player of the year Kendall Williams capped it off with a turnaround dunk with 11 seconds left.

New Mexico fan ejected for shoving UNLV guard Anthony Marshall (Video)

A New Mexico fan was ejected from the arena during the second half of Wednesday night's Lobos basketball game in Albuquerque for shoving an opposing player.

In the second half of the game, UNLV Rebels guard Anthony Marshall tried to save a loose ball that went out of bounds underneath the basket. A New Mexico fan in the front row gave Marshall a little shove as he was walking away, but quickly realized he made a huge mistake.

Marshall stared down the fan as referees quickly stepped in to keep them separated, while the fan threw up his hands as if to say "My bad". Unfortunately, the Lobos fan had gone too far and the referees had no choice but to eject him.

New Mexico won the game 65-60.
