TCU players skipped classes and had their cars towed after beating Kansas

Bill Self called it the worst loss in Kansas Jayhawks history, and conversely it was the biggest win in TCU Horned Frog history. Look, there is no history for TCU basketball, at least nothing of significance. They were losers of 8 straight, all in conference, before their shocking win over #5 Kansas. They rank 345th in the country in points per game. They are a bad basketball team. You cannot really blame them for wanting to live it up after their historic win. But the players may have taken it a bit too far. According to what TCU coach Trent Johnson told the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram, players were so busy celebrating the win, that they missed classes the following day, and had their cars towed. “Did I think some of this stuff could happen today? No question,” TCU told the Star-Telegram. “But when this program is where it needs to be and we’re winning and competing at a high level consistently, I won’t have to worry about this stuff. Today, I’m not very happy and that’s just the way...

TCU fulfills dream with 1st Big 12 win

Garlon Green dreamed of a victory over Kansas long before he played for TCU.

It's hard to think that the Horned Frogs senior forward or anyone else could have ever imagined his dream being fulfilled like this. The fifth-ranked Jayhawks certainly didn't.

Big 12 newcomer TCU was still looking for its first conference victory and there were some who wondered if the Frogs, who have lost three key players to season-ending injuries, could go 0-18 in the league. On Wednesday night, here came the Jayhawks, the bullies of the Big 12, the team that has won 12 of 16 regular-season league titles. They were coming off a rare home loss and riding a seven-year streak without consecutive losses.

Blowout city, right?

The Frogs stunned everyone by sticking Kansas with its largest deficit of the season, and led throughout for a 62-55 shocker and their first-ever win over a top five team.

''We come out here every day. We put our heart and soul into it every night, every morning,'' Green said. '&#

TCU fulfills dream with 1st Big 12 win over Kansas

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Basketball Writer TCU senior Garlon Green had dreamed of a victory over Kansas.

His dream came true in a most unexpected way. The Horned Frogs hadn't won a Big 12 game since moving to their new league before their stunning 62-55 victory over the fifth-ranked Jayhawks on Wednesday night.

TCU (10-12, 1-8 Big 12) never trailed and built as much as a 16-point lead, the largest deficit of the season for Kansas.

Green says the Frogs, who have lost three key players to season-ending injuries, put their heart and soul into every game and every practice. They got rewarded with maybe the biggest upset in college basketball this season.

Green says it was fun, but that the Frogs now have to build on that momentum. They host West Virginia on Saturday.

Worst team in Big 12 beats best team in Big 12?

TCU has reason to celebrate considering they have accomplished by far one of the most shocking wins this year in college basketball. With TCU winless in the Big 12 (until they played Kansas) no one thought that Kansas who holds the best record in the Big 12 would lose on the road to the Horned frogs. Gerald Greens brother, Garlon Green plays for the horned frogs and had this to say
“It means a lot. Obviously we’ve had some tough years,” Frogs senior forward Garlon Green said. “We’ve had a tough year right now, but this is a big win. We need to carry this momentum.”

And if your wondering if Garlon Green jumps like his brother…yes he does.

No. 5 Jayhawks upset by Horned Frogs

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Garlon Green scored 20 points and TCU held on for a 62-55 upset of fifth-ranked Kansas on Wednesday night for the Horned Frogs' first Big 12 victory.

The Jayhawks (19-3, 7-2 Big 12), coming off a loss four days earlier against Oklahoma State, have their first losing streak in more than seven years. They had played 264 games in a row since January 2006 without consecutive losses, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.

TCU (10-12, 1-8) never trailed in the game, which marked the midpoint of its conference schedule in its first Big 12 season, also the first season for new coach Trent Johnson.

Kansas, which has won or shared 12 of the 16 regular-season Big 12 titles since the league started, didn't score its first points until more than 7 minutes into the game. The Jayhawks finished with their fewest points in nearly six years.

TCU 0-4 in Big 12, lose 67-54 to No. 16 K-State

TCU got off to a quick start against No. 16 Kansas State.

That early spurt was about all the Horned Frogs had Wednesday night in a 67-54 loss to the Wildcats, the Big 12 co-leaders who won their seventh straight game.

''I thought we played probably as about as good as we could play for about the first 3 or 4 minutes,'' first-year TCU coach Trent Johnson said. ''But like most good teams that are mature, skilled, understand their roles - we had a couple breakdowns defensively, we had a couple breakdowns offensively - and they make you pay.''

TCU (9-8, 0-4 Big 12) was up 8-2 less than 3 minutes into the game after 3-pointers by Kyan Anderson and freshman Charles Hill Jr. When Garlon Green made a layup with 13:21 to go, the Frogs still led 10-5.

Just over 3 minutes later, they were behind and never caught up.

Kansas State (14-2, 3-0) overcame its slow start and took control of the game with a 19-4 run.

TCU 61, S. Utah 52

Kyan Anderson scored a team-high 21 points and Devonta Abron added 17 points as TCU beat Southern Utah 61-52 Thursday night.

The Horned Frogs (6-2) were aided by Abron's performance in the second half, which included 13 points and four rebounds, and helped TCU regain the lead and pull away from the Thunderbirds.

The Horned Frogs led 31-28 at halftime. Southern Utah (1-5) grabbed a 38-37 lead when Damon Heuir made two free throws with 10:49 to play. Abron's layup put TCU back in front and they stayed there the rest of the way.

It was still a five-point game after Jayson Cheesman's tip-in for Southern Utah with 1:59 left, but Anderson's layup extended TCU's lead to 54-47.

Heuir led all scorers with 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Cheesman had 13 rebounds. Southern Utah shot 27 percent in the second half and 33 percent overall.

TCU's Fields injured only 12 seconds into SMU game

TCU junior forward Amric Fields was injured only 12 seconds into Thursday night's game against SMU, when his right knee buckled and he fell to the floor.

Fields remained down for several minutes while being tended to by trainers. Horned Frogs coach Trent Johnson walked over to check on the player, and patted him several times on the leg before going back to the bench.

Once Fields was helped up, he didn't put any weight on his right leg while being taken to the locker room.

When asked after the game if the injury was as bad as it appeared, first-year TCU coach Trent Johnson responded, ''Yeah.'' Johnson said he had not heard a medical report but believes Fields may have a season-ending injury.

The Mountain West Conference's top sixth man last season, Fields is now a starter. He averaged 11 points the first two games.

Coach: Trent Johnson (First season at TCU). Overall 226-185, 13 years

Starters Returning (2) Kyan Anderson, Garion Green
Preseason Tournament: South Padre Invitational
Top Non-Conference Games: No Big games

Cleary TCU’s move to the Big 12 was not for basketball. TCU has struggled in lesser conference now they have to compete in the Big 12. They have made just 2 NCAA tournaments in the last 44 years. The rebuilding job of this program will take a while. The man leading the charge is Trent Johnson. Johnson is no stranger to high level basketball he has coached at Stanford and LSU. The Bad news for Johnson is the Horned Frogs top two scorers from last season are gone.
There is no question that the strength of TCU is in the frontcourt. Leading the way is the Horned Frogs top returning scorer Garlon Green (9.9 ppg). Green is a versatile wing player. Last season forward Amri...

TCU headed to new conference with new coach

TCU is going into a new conference with a new coach who has made it where the Horned Frogs want to be.

Trent Johnson has taken each of his three previous teams to the NCAA tournament. Big 12 newcomer TCU hasn't played in the NCAA tournament since 1998.

The Horned Frogs lost their top two scorers after their first winning season in seven years. There are still nine returning lettermen, including starters Garlon Green and guard Kyan Anderson, the Mountain West Conference's top freshman last season. Junior forward Amric Fields likely gets a more prominent role after being the Mountain West's top sixth man last season.

TCU also got a huge boost with Devonta Abron, a 6-8 sophomore transfer from Arkansas, being able to play immediately.

#108 TCU Horned Frogs: College Basketball 111 in 111

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series. Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days. Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.
We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order. We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.
In the ever changing world of college conferences, the TCU Horned Frogs make the leap from the Mountain West Conference to the Big 12. They were originally supposed to head to the Big East but instead decided to stay in a more regional-friendly conference when the Big 12 lost Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC. It will certainly be an uphill climb for TCU and their new head coach, Trent Johnson.

Thorns, TCU upset No. 11 UNLV in overtime

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- TCU senior guard Hank Thorns sent a tweet a few hours before playing No. 11 UNLV about never experiencing the thrill of being surrounded by Horned Frogs fans on the court after a big victory.

He needed to do an update afterward.

Thorns scored eight of his career-high 32 points in overtime and the Frogs beat a ranked team for the first time in five years with a 102-97 victory Tuesday night over his hometown team.

When the game ended, the Las Vegas native jumped excitedly onto the scorer's table before joining the rest of his teammates being mobbed by TCU students in the middle of the floor. Thorns found his father and uncle in the crowd, then shed tears when he got in the locker room.

"I'm just overwhelmed,' Thorns said. "My dream came true. It was a dream for me to do this, to beat these guys. That's something I always wanted to do, it was my reason to come here to TCU, and we got them when they were No. 11 in the country."

Texas Two Step: TCU, SMU Land 2012 Commits

Two current non-BCS programs in the Lone Star State, TCU and SMU, both took important verbal commitments this week. The incoming talent is especially important for both programs, as the Horned Frogs jump into Big 12 play next year, eschewing the Big East, and SMU has designs on upgrading their conference in the future, and have been mentioned as a possibility in keeping the Big East afloat. Multiple reports are out that TCU has its third verbal commitment in the Class in 2012, in Hotchkiss School (CT) guard Clyde Smith, while SMU landed a true 7-footer, Blaise Mbargorba of The Peddie School (NJ).
It shouldn’t be a huge surprise that Smith is headed to TCU, as he is actually a native of Texas that is playing prep school hoops in the Northeast. Smith will return to his home state for college, and will be a solid contributor to the future backcourt in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs snagged a prized point guard in Kyan Anderson last season, after he was released from his letter of intent...
