Pastor group delivers Coyotes-purchase bid to NHL

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly noted last week that no group enjoys exclusivity in its bid to purchase the Coyotes. Apparently, that wasnt just lip service.
Sources familiar with the situation confirmed Friday that Darin Pastors group delivered its bid to purchase the Coyotes to the NHL offices in New York, first thing Friday morning.
Among the highlights:According to sources, the bid is believed to be highest purchase price currently offered for the team, though exact figures were unknown. The bid requires less annual commitment from the City of Glendale to manage Jobing.com Arena than numerous studies suggest the city must pay. That amount has long been a major hurdle to closing any deal. The bid includes an option to purchase Jobing.com Arena over a period of time.
The bid includes an out-clause after five years, which likely similar to any other groups bid.The Pastor group wants to forge a much deeper relationship with all of the Valleys youth hockey programs both to promote and grow the game.Pastor was

Avalanche reportedly interested in Coyotes' Tippett

Its a foregone conclusion that if the owner-less Coyotes allow coach Dave Tippett to reach the end of his contract on June 30, he will have plenty of suitors.
Well, the line is already forming. Denver Post columnist Mike Chambers called Tippett a potential home-run hirewho has already been discussed for the Colorado Avalanche post. The Avs fired Joe Sacco after a third straight season without a playoff berth.
Tippett has repeatedly made it plain he wants to remain in Phoenix, where he and his wife, Wendy, just built a home. But the Coyotes continued ownership saga, and the low-budget restraints it has placed on he and soon-to-be free agent GM Don Maloney over the past four seasons have reached a boiling point because both are tired of entering each season with an undermanned roster.
We have a lot of players that work hard -- in the guts of the game, theyre good players, Tippett said recently. But at some point, we need some difference-makers.

Would Dave Tippett Be Interested In The Avs Coaching Position?

from Mike Chambers of All Things Avs,

Phoenix Coyotes coach Dave Tippett, whose contract with the troubled team expires June 30, is currently in Europe, serving as an assistant coach for Canada at the World Championship, and probably wondering where he will coach in the NHL next season.

The Avalanche has got to be an option, particularly when Canadian centers Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly of the Avs serve as constant reminders that Colorado has a solid young team and is in need of a coach.

In my mind – and others who I have discussed it with – Tippett would be a home-run hire for the Avalanche.

The Latest On The Phoenix Coyotes

from Dan Bickley at azcentral,

Word is, the investor group has raised $240 million, which is $70 million more than the asking price. It’s willing to absorb $40 million in losses over the first four years of a 15-year deal. It will be seeking an out clause if the economics haven’t changed for the better, likely after five years.

It’s committed to re-signing Don Maloney and Dave Tippett, arguably the best general manager/coach tandem in the NHL.

 That’s the good news.

The trick will be if Glendale can reach a lease agreement deal that works for everyone. The city understands the importance of the Coyotes to Westgate, the future of Jobing.com Arena and the Valley’s image as a big-league market featuring all four major professional sports. But it will not bend like it did for Greg Jamison, who would’ve received $308 million over 20 years.

more including Bettman and Daly will be in Phoenix tomorrow...

Phoenix Coyotes Send Three Back to Minors Including Chris Conner

Along with winger Chris Conner, the Coyotes also send Michael Stone and Alexandre Bolduc back to the minors. They are getting sent back to the Portland Pirates who happen to be down 2-0 in their playoff series versus Syracuse. These three should be able to give the Pirates a boost when they return home for game three.

Paul Bissonnette, a.k.a, Biz Nasty, isn’t your typical hockey player. However, like pretty much everyone else in the NHL, his teeth aren’t real.
Arguably the most outgoing (at least social media-wise) player in the league, Bissonnette recently uploaded a Vine video onto his Twitter handle that showed him messing around with his “new jibs” (teeth) still in the dentist chair.
Check out Biz Nasty’s new chompers and his same old busted nose in the weird video below.

Ownership 'thing' takes center stage as Coyotes' season ends

I must admit I was green with more than a little envy.

Early in Saturday nights game in Anaheim, the Ducks game operations department lit up the scoreboard with the official announcement of their upcoming first round Stanley Cup playoff series. Their opponent: The universally hated, yet duly respected Detroit Red Wings.

There was a unique blend of wild applause and lusty booing.

Let the playoffs begin.

Problem was that there were about 55 minutes of regular season hockey left.

Oh, sure, the Phoenix Coyotes gave it one last kick at the can. A proud group, the defending Pacific Division champs left the truncated season with a scent of a good taste for all. But the game, No. 48, felt more like an obligation then a battle.

I walked around the rink at ice level and noticed that not too many people outside of the Coyotes and their personnel cared for anything other than a quick 60. And frankly, there was more than a fair share of the Phoenix traveling road show who felt the very same.

Coyotes miss playoffs for first time in 4 years

The Phoenix Coyotes spent three seasons shrugging off their uncertain future, keeping their focus on the ice as one potential owner after another popped up then disappeared.

This season, with the ownership situation headed toward resolution one way or another, the Coyotes may have been looking over their shoulder instead of at the puck.

Finally succumbing to the weight of four years of uncertainty, the Coyotes got the strike-shortened 2013 season off to a slow start and never fully recovered to miss the playoffs a year after reaching the Western Conference finals for the first time.

''I think everybody knows there's going to be some kind of solution here,'' Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. ''It could be good, it could be bad, it could be indifferent, I don't know. For me personally, I felt it more with the group this year because everybody knows that there's got to be a conclusion.''

The Coyotes had been able to handle a cloudy future before.

Coyotes take on road-weary Avs in home finale

The Coyotes have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, but they still want to finish the season on a positive note. Hosting the Western Conference-worst Avalanche could help them do that.

Phoenix will try to win its fifth straight in this series and extend its home point streak over Colorado to 12 on Friday night in its final game at Jobing.com Arena this season.

The Coyotes (20-18-8) were officially knocked out of playoff contention Tuesday for the first time in four seasons. It was a disappointing result for a club that advanced to its first conference finals a year ago, but that didn't stop the Coyotes from giving their best on Wednesday when they defeated the playoff-bound Sharks 2-1.

Captain Shane Doan picked up his first points in eight games by setting up first-period goals by Michael Stone and Keith Yandle.

Yandle to donate jersey to victim's family

Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle, a Boston-area native, made headlines when he took the ice for warmups Saturday in a jersey honoring Martin Richard, the 8-year-old victim of last week's marathon bombings.

The jersey, a standard Coyotes road sweater, featured "Martin Richard" on the nameplate in place of "Yandle" as well as No. 8 instead of Yandle's usual No. 3. Yandle noted that his wife, Kristyn, was raised in the same Dorcester neighborhood as Richard and that his in-laws knew Richard due to the "tight-knit" nature of the neighborhood, which had him searching for a way to show support for the family.

But after initially planning to have the Coyotes auction off the jersey and donate the funds to the family, there was a change of plans Monday, according to Yahoo Sports' Nik Cotsonika. The family reached out and requested the jersey -- and not the money -- as a keepsake, something Yandle said was "even better."

According to Cotsonika, Yandle hopes to trave

Coyotes' season crashes, burns in Motor City

Dave Tippett has a remarkable talent for distilling complex topics into easily understood sound bites. Mondays postgame offering wasnt award-winning oratory from Phoenixs coach, but it could serve as the working title for this soon-to-be-concluded Coyotes campaign.
Season of frustration, said Tippett, who has been as visibly annoyed as anyone by his inability to find solutions.
The Coyotes knew they were up against the wall in Detroit. While unbridled optimists can still count this team among the living in the playoff chase, the Coyotes knew that this game was do or die against a club that is also competing for one of two remaining postseason berths.
The Coyotes played well in the first period, even carrying the play as they outshot the Red Wings 12-4. But an old nemesis, their power play and a new one, their penalty kill -- came back to bite them as Detroit scored two power plays goals while Phoenix failed on its two chances in a 4-0 Red Wings rout.
The first period, I thought we played hard and did a lot o

Keith Yandle wears ‘Martin Richard’ jersey during warmups (Pictures)

Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle has felt the impact of the Boston Marathon bombings a bit more than many players across the NHL. Yandle is a Massachusetts native who grew up near Boston. Last week, he wrote the words “pray for Boston” across his skates to pay tribute to those affected by the tragedy. He put an even more personal touch on it Saturday night. Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy from Dorchester, Mass., was one of three people killed during the explosions on Monday. As you can see from the photo above that Coyotes Sr. Director of Communications Rich Nairn passed along, Yandle wore Richard’s name across the back of his warmup jersey before his team’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. “One of my best friends finished four minutes before the bombs went off, and his parents were right at the flags where the bombs went off,” Yandle told FOX Sports Arizona earlier in the week. “My high school coach runs it every year, and he was 500 yards away before...

The bombings at the Boston Marathon hit especially close to home for Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle, who grew up just outside the city and both attended and worked at the event as a teenager. Earlier this week, he took to the ice with "Pray for Boston" written on his skate.

That wasn't enough for him. Yandle said he was hit particularly hard by the death of 8-year-old Martin Richard, a bombing victim who happened to be from Dorchester, the same neighborhood where Yandle's wife, Kristyn, was raised.

Hes from my wifes neighborhood, and thats a tight-knit community, Yandle said earlier this week. Everybody knows everybody.

So on Saturday, Yandle decided to honor the young hockey fan Saturday by wearing a specially made jersey for pregame warmups. Rather than "Yandle" and his traditional No. 3 on the back, the jersey featured the full name "Martin Richard" and the No. 8.

Yandle pays tribute to young Marathon victim

Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle has been wearing a tribute on his skates ever since the Boston Marathon bombings, but on Saturday night before their game against the Chicago Blackhawks, he chose to step it up. In honor of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old that passed away from the bombings, Yandle decided to wear a special jersey for warmups in his honor. Yandle is normally #3, but chose #8 in honor of Martin’s age. This is one of the best tributes I have seen thus far, and I have to believe it will inspire others to follow in his foot steps. #Coyotes D Keith Yandle will wear this jersey in warm up tonight in honor/memory of Martin Richard. #BostonStrong twitter.com/RichNairn9/sta… — Rich Nairn (@RichNairn9) April 20, 2013 Boston native Keith Yandle’s special warmup jersey here tonight in Chicago. #BostonStrong. #Coyotes. #NHL twitter.com/sparty8185/sta… — Matthew McConnell (@sparty8185) April 21, 2013 [@TysonNash]

Boston tragedy hits home for Coyotes' Yandle

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Keith Yandle was just getting ready to leave a group chat with some friends to take a pregame nap Monday when a series of frantic messages between his buddies alerted him that something wasnt right on Patriots Day in Boston.
He tried calling his brother, Brian, who was at the Boston Marathon with his son, Brian ("Little B"), but he couldnt get through. As the tragic details emerged from what has been deemed a terrorist attack, Yandles heart sank and his stomach churned as he thought of the lifelong memories from that event and the loved ones and friends who might have been in harms way.
One of my best friends finished four minutes before the bombs went off, and his parents were right at the flags where the bombs went off, said Yandle, who is from nearby Milton. My high school coach runs it every year, and he was 500 yards away before he was stopped by the police and just started running in the opposite direction.
But the detail that stuck in Yandles throat was the death of 8-yea

Mikkel Boedker of the Phoenix Coyotes delivers a memorable weather report

When an athlete gives a weather report on a local news station, it's usually a recipe for comedy gold. Phoenix Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker's report for ABC 15 of Phoenix is just one of the most recent and most comical examples which proves that athletes stumbling through the weather is a sight worth beholding. Give Boedker credit. He actually handles himself pretty well while providing some truly hilarious lines. From telling viewers they don't need to worry about the cold temperatures at the Grand Canyon as they only need about five minutes to see it, to struggling to locate Phoenix on a map, Boedker's segment is loaded with unintentional comedy. Boedker is quite blunt in his forecast, admitting that he's never been to several areas on the map. He also mentions that the Coyotes are in town Monday and Tuesday, but that he doesn't care about the weather the rest of the week because the team will be on the road. All of this combined with his understand...
