Ed Daniel had a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds to lift Murray State to a 76-54 win over Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday night.

Stacy Wilson contributed 16 points and Isaiah Canaan 15 to Murray State's (6-1) victory in which Daniel recorded his fifth-straight double-double and scored the game's first eight points.

Darnell Moore led the scoring for Bethel (11-2) with 14 points.

After getting the ball at the opening tip, Daniel scored the first eight points for the Racers. He started with a jumper 15 seconds into the game, followed by two layups - both on assists by Wilson - before completing the spurt with a dunk.

Canaan drained a 3-pointer, raising the score to 11-2 before Dexter Fields stole the ball and, with a blind pass behind his back, hit Canaan for a layup. That gave the Racers a 10-point lead five minutes into the game.

Murray St. suspends Jackson for season

Murray State has suspended sophomore guard Zay Jackson for the 2012-13 season.

Jackson had been suspended indefinitely last month after his arrest after striking two people with his car in a Wal-Mart parking lot following an altercation. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 12 to wanton endangerment and was to be sentenced Monday.

However, the case was delayed when the judge recused himself, and then a surveillance video was released showing Jackson driving around the parking lot with one of the victims on the hood of his Chevy Monte Carlo.

Athletics director Allen Ward referenced the video when announcing that the suspension had been extended, saying that besides meeting his legal obligations, Jackson would have to ''go above and beyond the steps required to be an exemplary citizen'' to be reinstated.

No. 11 Murray State mindful of home loss to EIU

No. 11 Murray State hasn't lost at home since Eastern Illinois knocked them off last season.

The undefeated Racers (20-0, 8-0 Ohio Valley Conference) are still smarting from that setback as they prepare for Saturday's matchup as the only undefeated team left in men's Division I basketball.

Murray State will have two key contributors back with Ivan Aska returning from a broken right hand that cost him six games and reserve guard Stacy Wilson, who missed one because of a death in the family.

Murray State is off to the best start since St. Joseph's won its first 27 games in 2004, but they're mindful of what happened when Jeremy Granger lifted the Panthers (9-10, 2-5) to a 61-60 victory with a basket in the closing seconds.

Nation's last unbeaten team looking forward

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. Long after he left the court as part of the nation's last unbeaten team, Murray State junior guard Isaiah Canaan emerged from a locker room, ready for the praise to come. One woman wearing a gold sweater greeted him as he approached and said, "Great game." Not long after, another woman nearby said, "Awesome, awesome."

"Thank you," Canaan said, moving toward teammates gathered behind Murray State's bench.

Canaan continued his walk inside the Vadalabene Center after the Racers' 17-point rout of SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday night. He became aware of his team's opportunity about 50 minutes before tipoff: A cameraman told him Syracuse had lost to Notre Dame, leaving Murray State as the country's final undefeated squad in a season that is becoming more of a surprise than anyone involved with the Ohio Valley Conference leader could have imagined.

Aska cleared to return from injury

Murray State forward Ivan Aska says he's been cleared to return after missing the past six games with a broken right hand for the nation's only undefeated men's Division I basketball team.

Aska expected positive news and says he couldn't sleep before his doctor's appointment on Monday morning. Aska is a starter and the leading rebounder for the 11th-ranked Racers, but broke the hand in the first half of a victory at Eastern Illinois on Dec. 30. The Racers (20-0, 8-0 Ohio Valley Conference) have a rematch with Eastern Illinois at home on Saturday.

Aska averaged 12.6 points and six rebounds in his first 14 games. The senior had played in 113 consecutive games before the injury.

No. 12 Murray State keeps rolling without Aska

Murray State may have already survived the biggest threat to an undefeated run to the NCAA tournament. Three weeks ago the 12th-ranked Racers' leading rebounder Ivan Aska broke a bone in his right hand.

With their 6-foot-7 senior forward out for the first time in 113 games, the Racers (18-0, 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference) improvised. Coach Steve Prohm (PROHM') installed a four-guard set and implored his shooters to battle for rebounds.

It's worked with 6-foot-3 guard Donte Poole and 6-foot-1 guard Jewuan Long combining to average 7.8 rebounds in the four games Aska has missed. He was averaging six rebounds per game before being sidelined.

The Racers remain one of two undefeated Division I men's basketball teams along with No. 1 Syracuse heading into their game Wednesday at Morehead State.

Poole sinks 28, No. 15 Racers now 18-0

Murray State is focused more on wins than individual statistics.

Donte Poole had a career-high 28 points and eight rebounds in the 15th-ranked Racers' 82-74 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. Poole was unaware of his career-high scoring total until he was told after the game.

''I didn't know that,'' Poole said. ''We're just out there playing together, everything is for the team. Coach (Steve) Prohm always tells us `You win for the team, you play for the team and you play unselfish and personal goals will come.' I'm not really thinking about (personal goals) and I'm sure no one else on the team is. As long as we win, whether I had a career high or a career low, I'm just glad we won against a good team.''

Isaiah Canaan added 24 points to lead Murray State (18-0, 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference) to its 18th consecutive victory and set the longest winning streak in school history, eclipsing the 17-game streak by the 2009-10 team.

Undefeated No. 22 Murray St improving for Prohm

Murray State players are on a mission: Prove hiring coach Steve Prohm was the right move.

So far, so good.

No. 22 Murray State is one of six undefeated Division I men's basketball teams - joining Syracuse, Louisville, Baylor, Missouri and Indiana. The Racers, out of the Ohio Valley Conference, are off to their best start in 75 years at 13-0.

When Billy Kennedy left for Texas A&M, senior forward Ivan Aska knew exactly who the next coach should be. He passionately shared his support for 37-year-old Prohm - an assistant on Kennedy's staff - with athletic director Allen Ward.

Aska apparently was onto something. The Racers beat then-No. 21 Memphis on Dec. 11 and broke into the Top 25 regular season poll for the first time in 40 years.

Donte Poole connected on a career-high six 3-pointers and 20 points as Murray State remained undefeated with a 76-72 victory over No. 21 Memphis on Sunday night.

The Racers (10-0) took control early then had to weather a late Memphis rally to hold on for the victory. Murray State was up 71-60 with just under 2 minutes left before Memphis (5-3) scored eight straight points to make it a one-possession game.

The Tigers trailed 73-72 with 14 seconds left. But Isaiah Canaan, who had 15 points, connected on two free throws with 7.9 seconds left and the Racers remained one of only nine teams in Division I still undefeated.

Ed Daniel finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for Murray State and Ivan Aska had 12 points.

Will Barton led Memphis with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while Joe Jackson had 20 and Tarik Black 11.

Chris Crawford's 3-point attempt for Memphis with 6 seconds left would have tied the game, but it was off the mark.
