BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Evan Gordon is headed home.

Indiana announced Thursday that the former Arizona State guard, who announced he was leaving the program about two weeks ago, will transfer to Bloomington and enroll in graduate school so he can be eligible immediately next season.

Gordon, an Indianapolis native, is the brother of former Indiana star and NBA guard Eric Gordon. He left the Sun Devils after just one season in which he averaged 10.1 points -- the third-highest total on the team -- along with 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals

Gordon will help fortify an Indiana roster that will look very different next season. Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller declared for the NBA draft, three seniors graduated and Maurice Creek and Remy Abell have announced their intentions to transfer.

Evan Gordon Transfers To Indiana

Evan Gordon has committed to Indiana, transferring from Arizona State.
Gordon, younger brother of Eric Gordon, will be eligible to play immediately.
“There’s nothing like an Indiana kid playing for IU,” Gordon said. “Coach (Tom) Crean has that program rocking and rolling.”
Gordon began his college career at Liberty for two seasons before transferring to Arizona State. Gordon averaged 10.1 points per game last season for the Sun Devils.
“It’s kind of crazy how I ended up back here (at Indiana),” said Gordon. “When I left Liberty the reason was to play on a bigger stage and it was a better opportunity to do that. This chance at IU just kind of came about and was hard to turn down.”

Third-leading scorer Gordon leaving ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Arizona State guard Evan Gordon is leaving the program after playing one season.

Sun Devils coach Herb Sendek announced Gordon's decision during a teleconference with fans Wednesday night.

A 6-foot-1 guard, Gordon started 25 games and was ASU's third-leading scorer with 10.1 points as a junior last season. He sat out the previous year after transferring from Liberty.

Gordon recently graduated and could play for another school as a grad transfer, but he might have to get clearance from the NCAA since he already transferred once.

Sai Tummala, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound standout at Brophy Prep and Salt Lake Community College, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Arizona State. He will have three years of eligibility, starting in 2013-14.

Tummala is a forward who is known for exceptional shooting range. He shot 41 percent from 3-point range in his one season at Salt Lake CC, averaging 14.5 points per game and earning third-team junior college All-America honors for a team that went 29-5.

He signed out of high school with Michigan and redshirted for a season before transferring to Salt Lake CC. BYU, Minnesota and Georgia were among the schools recruiting him after a strong finish to his junior college season.

Tummala is one of five newcomers for ASU coach Herb Sendek next season, joining transfers Richie Edwards (Valparaiso) and Brandan Kearney (midseason, Michigan State) and incoming freshmen Chance Murray and Egor Koulechov.

Carson to return for sophomore year at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. -- NBA advisers told freshman Jahii Carson the obvious, that he definitely would be drafted in April. It was not enough to convince Carson to leave Arizona State, and he announced his decision to remove his name from draft consideration at an on-campus love-in Tuesday evening.Leaving school early was no guarantee of success last season, and when Carson does it, he wants to make a difference. Lottery pick Jeremy Lamb was demoted to the NBA Developmental League this year. Bradley Beal has been a part-time contributor. So has Austin Rivers. After displaying the ability to take over games from his point guard position last year, it made sense to Carson to return to school, hone his jump-shooting skills, and go through the process next year, when the scenario is likely to play out again. Arizonas Jerryd Bayless remains the only one-and-done player in state college history.Continue to try to build a legacy at Arizona State, Carson said at a press conference that included his mother and father, ASU playe

Arizona State point guard Jahii Carson will play at least another season for the Sun Devils.

Carson filed paperwork last week to be evaluated by NBA executives, but announced that he's returning for his sophomore season at Arizona State during an on-campus news conference that included a DJ and a slide show.

Carson was one of the most heralded in-state recruits in Arizona State history and lived up to the hype after sitting out last season for failing to meet NCAA academic standards.

The quick and confident point guard averaged 18.5 points and 5.1 assists, and was the Pac-12's co-freshman of the year with UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad.

A decision on whether he's leaving the Sun Devils won't come for a couple of weeks.

Carson submitted paperwork for draft protection from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee on Monday, giving him an evaluation of his NBA potential without declaring for the draft.

The committee, made up of NBA executives, will provide feedback to Carson within the next two weeks, allowing him to make a decision about his future before the NCAA's April 16 deadline for withdrawing his draft application and keep his eligibility.

''At this time my family and I decided that it was in our best interest to receive an evaluation from NBA personnel through the proper channels,'' Carson said in a statement.

At this time my family and I decided that it was in our best interest to receive an evaluation from NBA personnel through the proper channels," he said in a statement released by ASU. "I am submitting paperwork through Arizona State to the NBA and will use the next two weeks to make a decision. We look forward to the opportunity to receive feedback from people with great knowledge on the subject, and once we evaluate our situation will make an educated decision.

ASU head coach Herb Sendek said Carson's decision was a logical one following his first season with the Sun Devils, in which he ranked among the Pac-12's top five in scoring (18.5 point

Sun Devils try to conjure up postseason magic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. Arizona State understands its situation perfectly. Sweep four games in the Pac-12 tournament here and make the NCAA tournament. Do not, and fall to the NIT. The Sun Devils are drawing on recent precedent to prepare.

The avalanche of examples continued last week when 20-loss Liberty swept the Big South conference tournament.

Sixth-seed Colorado won four games in four days in last year's Pac-12 tournament in Los Angeles.

The Sun Devils, who enter the postseason with four consecutive losses, have chosen a bigger run as their inspiration: That of Connecticut, which won five Big East tournament games in five days and carried that all the way to the 2011 NCAA title.

We look at the Connecticut team that had Kemba Walker and how they were 11th in the Big East and how they overcame that," freshman point guard Jahii Carson said. "That is something that inspires us. We look at that and we have faith. The teams that we are matched up against in the Pac-12 tournament we have confidence.

ASU's Bachynski emerges as game changer

TEMPE, Ariz. Jordan Bachynski was impatient, antsy -- traits diametrically opposed to the ones that have made him the best shot-blocker in the Pac-12 Conference and one of the best in the nation.

He had just returned from a two-year LDS mission to South Florida, which might as well have been Mars. He had been given the opportunity to shoot baskets maybe once a week, but that was not his purpose.

Austin Ainge and other Mormon friends advised Bachynski that it would take at least a year for him to regain the form that made him one of the top recruits in the hemisphere in 2007, when UConn was among the suitors who came to Calgary, Alberta, to check on him. Bachynski did not want to hear it. Not me, he thought.

In hindsight, his friends were right. It has taken time, even more than anticipated because Bachynski not only missed court time while on his mission but also his final high school season at Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep because of ankle surgery.

The journey back to himself was difficult, but now on

Bachynski brothers ready for ASU-Utah 'battle'

TEMPE, Ariz. Monday night was always family night in the Bachynski household, and the group would gather to play games, create crafts, go to a movie or maybe just talk -- anything to reinforce the family unit. It generally went well, although teenagers Jordan and younger brother Dallin occasionally let their passionate side show.

Sometimes it turned into a little bit of a battle, Jordan Bachynski said with a grin. Everything was a competition. Every time we played, the winner ... you knew who the winner was.

The sibling rivalry that the Bachynski brothers brought to Risk and Monopoly may be evident when they play against each other for the first time in their college careers Wednesday, when Arizona State and Utah meet in the Pac-12 season opener at Wells Fargo Arena.

The two are good friends, naturally, and continue to grow closer. Each gave the other tips on how to adjust to the college game after returning from their respective LDS missions. The two play video games and talk constantly, sometimes about
