Pitt pursuing Alabama transfer Trevor Lacey

Pitt has had a whirlwind offseason to say the least. The surprising departure of Steven Adams set the Panthers back in the post. Now with Trey Zeigler and potentially even JJ Moore gone, they seem a bit thin on the wings as well. It is rumored that DeAndre Kane is leaning towards coming back home to play for Pitt, but that has not been solidified yet. Enter: Trevor Lacey.
Lacey is a former five star recruit out of high school and signed with Alabama . He was initially recruited by the likes of Kentucky, Kansas, and UConn before ultimately deciding with the in-state Crimson Tide.
Lacey has been a two year starter for the Tide, and he averaged 11 points per game in 2013. Jon Rothstein tweeted yesterday that Pitt is in play for the former Alabama guard. They will reportedly go up against conference mates North Carolina, NC State, and Miami in the recruiting battle:

UNC, NC State, Miami, and Pitt are all in the mix for Alabama transfer Trevor Lacey, per multiple sources. 2 years of eligibility remaining

Alabama Looks To Replace Trevor Lacey With Michael Kessens

longwoodlancers
Alabama Nation is still shocked over the mysterious transfer of Trevor Lacy, mostly because no official reason was given other than that he wanted “to pursue other opportunities”. Lacey is the fifth player in three years to transfer out of head coach Anthony Grant’s program in Tuscaloosa.
Luckily, the Crimson Tide won’t be hurting as much in the coming season thanks to Michael Kessens, who announced last Monday that he has signed with Alabama. The 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward played his freshman season at Longwood University.

“We are very excited to have Michael join our program here at the University of Alabama,” Grant said. “Michael brings a high skill level and strong basketball IQ to his position. He has a passion for the game and has had the opportunity to learn the college game over the last year. Michael will be an outstanding addition to the our basketball team and the university community.”

Kessens is a native of Switzerland, and joins the Crimson T...

Alabama Transfer Eyeing NC State

With so many scholarships available, it seems like every transfer and their mother are interested in North Carolina State.
Alabama shooting guard Trevor Lacey is leaving the Tide is expected to make a trip to Raleigh in mid May.
Coming out of high school, Lacey was a 5-star baller and 15th ranked shooting guard in the class of 2011. A two-time Alabama Mr. Basketball, he’s a classic catch and shoot three-point scorer, with NBA size, 6-3/210.
As a freshman, Lacey went the one-dimensional route. 54-percent of his shots on the season were three-point attempts. He hit just 31-percent of them. However, as a sophomore, he developed his ball handling skills, spent more time in the lane and become a more balanced scorer. On the season, he averaged 11.3 PPG, 3.8 rebound and 3.2 assists, getting his three-point percentage up to 37-percent.
Obviously, when a former 5-star player transfers, people pay attention, so a lot of teams are going to be making a play for Lacey. Word is, teams like Miami and Arizona are intere

UNC Looking at Another Alabama Transfer

And according to Inside Carolina(subscription required), he is already set to visit UNC.
Wing guard Trevor Lacey just finished his sophomore season at Alabama where he led the Crimson Tide in assists and three point shooting. Lacey started all 36 games in the 2012-13 season averaging 11.3 ppg, 3.2 apg, 1.7 spg and shot 37% from three hitting 62 of 166. He also becomes the latest player to leave the Crimson Tide and head coach Anthony Grant. Justin Knox, who spent a post-grad season at UNC, also left Bama and Grant. in 2011. Given Lacey started and played significant minutes this past season, the assumption is something was amiss between him and his head coach to necessitate moving out of his home state(as was the case with Rodney Purvis at NC State.)
Coming out of high school Lacey was ranked 36th in the 2011 class according to the RSCI. He was the 11th best wing guard in those rankings in a class that had the ten WG's in the top 30. After two years of college it is clear Lacey can play and contribute. In

Alabama’s Mr. Basketball Trevor Lacey Transfers

rolltide.com
We’ve got another big loss for Alabama coach Anthony Grant this offseason as Trevor Lacey declared today that he will transfer. This announcement comes after Lacey made comments that he would lead the Crimson Tide to the Final Four this next season after a disappointing 2012-2013 campaign.
The two-time Alabama High School Mr. Basketball calls the move “a family decision to pursue other opportunities” but did not say where he will transfer to.
This is the second starter from this season to announce a transfer this offseason after Moussa Gueye decided to leave the program two weeks ago. Lacey was the only Bama player to start all 36 games this season, averaging 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists a game while also leading the Crimson Tide in 3-pointers made with 62.
With the already lacking offense, the Crimson Tide will gain help from top recruits; Shannon Hale, a power forward from Johnson City, Tennessee, ranked 95 in the ESPN 100 and Jimmy Taylor, a much neede...

Alabama's Trevor Lacey transferring

Alabama guard Trevor Lacey is transferring before his junior season.

Crimson Tide coach Anthony Grant said Tuesday that he has granted the two-year starter a release from his scholarship.

Lacey called the move ''a family decision to pursue other opportunities.'' He didn't say where he planned to finish his career.

Lacey was the only Tide player to start all 36 games last season. He averaged 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds and led the team with 3.2 assists per game. He also made a team-high 62 3-pointers.

Lacey started 52 of 69 games the past two seasons. He says it was a hard decision to make and feels he improved last season.

He was a two-time Alabama Mr. Basketball at Huntsville's Butler High School and a Parade All-American.

Trevor Lacey’s last shot in an Alabama uniform will be remembered as an open jumper that clunked off the rim and ended the Crimson Tide season, a 58-57 loss to Maryland in the quarterfinals of the NIT Tournament at the end of the 2012-13 season. But Lacey will be remembered more as the second returning starter to leave the team before the start of the 2012-14 season.

Alabama's Trevor Releford labored at his hometown gym last summer trying to make his daily quota of 400 shots.

His regimen included some pull up jumpers and a few floaters, but mostly 3-pointers.

The Crimson Tide guard knew he had to expand his role and his shooting range this season when he went from the team's setup man to the go-to-guy with the departures of top scorers JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell.

Releford has become a far more accurate shooter and Alabama's unquestioned star while helping keep the Tide in contention for a Southeastern Conference title and NCAA tournament berth going into Saturday's visit to No. 8 Florida.

''I see a lot more confidence in his shot,'' said LJ Goolsby, Releford's AAU coach, who worked with his former player last summer in Kansas City. ''That's been evident the last couple of games, most importantly.''

The 6-foot Releford followed up a career-high 36-point game against LSU by scoring 21 points and sparking a s

The Future is Bright for Alabama Basketball

After such a disappointing finish to the season for the Alabama Crimson Tide yesterday in their one point loss to Creighton in the NCAA Tournament, it is hard to put the loss in perspective and move forward.
Despite the first round loss (I refuse to call it second round), it was a great season for the Crimson Tide. Alabama finished the season at 21-12, and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years. There were higher expectations for the Tide entering this season, but all in all the 2011-12 basketball season should be viewed as a success.
Alabama head coach Anthony Grant made major strides with the program in his third season at the helm. He dealt with disciplinary issues with some of the members of the team, but still was able to lead the team to the NCAA Tournament, and within one shot of advancing to the round of 32 without sacrificing the integrity of the program.
The important thing to look at is the Crimson Tide have improved in every year under Grant. After miss...

FBI probing alleged point shaving by Auburn player

The FBI is investigating suspended Auburn point guard Varez Ward for alleged point shaving.
Point shaving is illegal. It’s the act of deliberately limiting the number of points scored by your team in return for gambling payments.
“We are very concerned by the point shaving allegations involving Auburn University men’s basketball program and have been in contact with the school and the FBI since the issue arose in February,” the NCAA said in a statement.
“The NCAA takes any allegation of point shaving very seriously because sports wagering threatens two of our core principles – the well-being of student-athletes and the very integrity of intercollegiate sport."

Announcer run over by player

ESPN announcer Jimmy Dykes got absolutely laid out by Alabama freshman guard Levi Randolph during the Bama-Arkansas game Thursday. The play occurred with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Randolph poked the ball while going for a steal and tried to save the loose ball. He ended up diving over the announcers table at mid-court, knocking over Dykes. Papers were flying everywhere, but at least Jimmy “took the charge.”
I guess we could call that payback for Arkansas having one of their own calling the game (yes, Dykes used to play for the Razorbacks). Bama also won the game 79-68.

Alabama Basketball: Mitchell Leads Tide Past Wichita State

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s business trip to Puerto Rico continued with a 70-60 victory over the Wichita State Shockers in a rematch of last year’s NIT Championship Game. The Crimson Tide avenged last season’s loss to the Shockers, and advanced to play Purdue on Sunday night in the Puerto Rico Tip-off Championship game.
Tony Mitchell continued his stellar play with a 26-point night highlighted by a couple of emphatic jams in the first half that landed him two spots in SportsCenter’s top-10 plays. He also added 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Mitchell really carried the load for the Tide offense early in the game with JaMychal Green struggling again, and sitting on the bench after getting a cut on his chin in the first half. Mitchell played all but one minute of the game.
Despite the sluggish start for Green, he finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 4 blocked shots on the defensive end. As a team, Alabama blocked a tournament record...

Alabama Basketball Blasts Maryland in Puerto Rico Opener

The Alabama Crimson Tide called it a “business trip” to Puerto Rico as they looked to exorcise demons from last season’s performance at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. So far so good for Tide basketball as they opened the Puerto Rico tip-off with a 62-42 win the Maryland Terrapins.
It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Crimson Tide. Alabama took the lead right from the start and never relinquished it to the Terps. As a matter of fact, when Trevor Lacey buried a three with 12-minutes to go in the first half to give Alabama a 12-point lead, the game was never back within double digits.
JaMychal Green played only three minutes in the first half after picking up two quick fouls, but the Crimson Tide still took a 36-20 lead into the half thanks in large part to Tony Mitchell’s 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Alabama Basketball Season Preview: The Newcomers

I hope you enjoyed my breakdown of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s returning contributors from last season. Now, I’ll shift my focus to the newcomers for the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s 2011 recruiting class was ranked 5th by rivals.com highlighted by 5-star recruit Trevor Lacey.
This recruiting class is one of the most hyped and anticipated in Alabama basketball history, and many of these guys will be significant contributors for the Tide this season as they look to help Alabama get back into the Dance.
Anthony Grant signed a six-man recruiting class for 2011, but one of them has been lost for the season. JUCO transfer Moussa Gueye tore his ACL during the offseason, and will miss the 2011-12 basketball season. Gueye was expected to add a presence in the paint, and add much needed depth to the frontcourt.
Even with Gueye being lost for the season, Alabama has a lot of talented freshman who are looking for early playing time.
Lacey highlights a talented group of freshman for the Crimson Tide....
