South Carolina guard charged with simple assault, suspended

South Carolina guard Devan Downey was charged with simple assault and suspended from the team Monday. The charge stemmed from an argument Downey had with another student on campus last week. Downey led the Gamecocks in scoring last season as a sophomore, averaging 18.4 points. But atleast it was simple assault, and not complicated assault.

Some Tennessee Inmates have to Wear Pink to Seperate themselves from Vol Orange

The Elk Valley Times is reporting on a very interesting development. Lincoln County inmates in Tennessee have to wear pink instead of orange . The inmates can all blame Nathan Childress. This bright young gentleman escaped from his guards and ran up the street and just blended in. No one called the police.

South Carolina trying to lure WKU's Darrin Horn

The off-season coaching search has begun for several college programs, and those who usually get the most attention early are those mid-major coaches who made a splash this year. That list would include Western Kentucky's Darrin Horn, who led his Hilltoppers to a Sweet 16 run only to lose to UCLA. He will be highly sought after, but will he leave his alma mater?

Whew! The BasketVols Somehow Hang on to Beat the Gamecocks

Chris Lofton hit a 3-point basket with 12 seconds remaining in the game to barely defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks 87-89 in the quarterfinals of the SEC Basketball Tournament this afternoon at the Georgia Dome. The Vols were sluggish throughout the game, despite the fact that four Vols scored in double figures.

Tennessee Gets Ready to Face South Carolina in SEC Basketball Tournament

Somewhat to my surprise, the South Carolina Gamecocks managed to Defeat the LSU Tigers 77 - 73 in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta today. Despite getting absolutely hammered by the BasketVols just days ago, the Thunder Chickens managed to get it turned around and (at least by my estimation) upset the Tigers, and thus set the stage for a re-match with Tennessee.

SEC Coaches Not Happy With New Rules

Stay in the box. Watch the language.

Bench decorum rules have been strengthened in Division I men's and women's basketball, as officials will now have to take into account more than what's going on between the baselines.

Referees will become the bench police this season. Coaches that stray out of their sideline boxes repeated times are subject to technical fouls. Gestures, foul language and attempting to influence an officials' decision also will be subject to technicals at the officials' discretion.

Southeastern Conference supervisor of officials Gerald Boudreaux said he's instructed his officials to give a technical to a coach who yells an official outside the designated coaching box. Coaches who stray outside the box to talk to one of their players will receive a warning, with a second offense resulting in a technical.

The University of Kentucky men's basketball coach purchased the house for $1.45 million on Aug. 2.

Gator Basketball Schedule Unveiled

It's clear that Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan wants room for his young basketball team to grow during the 2007-08 season.

I think it's a great schedule with a good mix of different styles, offenses and defenses for this young team to learn on. Also, they are playing around the state of Florida to shore up recruiting and see the fans after another championship.

Returning Players Make Vols A Favorite

Based on returning players to a winning program, Southeastern Conference basketball coaches tabbed Tennessee as a favorite to win the league's Eastern Division. And UT Coach Bruce Pearl accepted that label.

"Certainly, we're going to be picked by a number of people to be competitive," Pearl said on an SEC coaches' teleconference yesterday. "Our team is going to play for it. We'd like to think we can do that every year."
