Kevin Giltner scored 17 points and Brad Loesing and Aerris Smith scored 14 each as Wofford overcame Virginia-Wise, an NAIA opponent, 69-66 Saturday night.

The Terriers (6-4) overcame a 27-point performance by the Cavaliers' Travis Berry, including 17 in the second half and 5 of 9 on 3-pointers.

Giltner gave Wofford a 65-60 lead by making two free throws with 45 seconds left, but Berry's 3-pointer 7 seconds later cut the lead to 65-63.

Loesing's two free throws with 21 seconds left made it 67-63, but Berry got fouled while making a layup at the 14-second mark, and his free throw made it 67-66.

Giltner was fouled with 11 seconds to go and made both to give Wofford its final margin. Darius Smith missed a layup try with 4 seconds left for Virginia-Wise (3-6), which was playing the game as an exhibition.

Norris Gaskins added 15 points for Virginia-Wise.

Wofford 61, Tulane 50

Brad Loesing scored 24 points and Kevin Giltner added 16 to lead Wofford over Tulane 61-50 Tuesday night, dropping the Green Wave from the ranks of the unbeaten.

The teams traded leads in the first half, and the Terriers (5-4) took a 26-22 edge into halftime. Ricky Tarrant's layup less than a minute into the second half pulled Tulane (9-1) within two points, but Wofford separated themselves from that juncture.

A Drew Crowell layup and a 3-pointer from Loesing helped spark an 18-8 Wofford run over a 6 1/2 minute span, and the Terriers cruised the rest of the way.

Loesing went 4 of 7 from 3-point range for Wofford, which was 7 of 20 (35 percent) for the game. The Green Wave shot just 2 of 16 on 3-pointers (12.5 percent).

Tarrant's 13 points led Tulane, which was trying for another step toward matching its 16-0 start in 1991-92.

Cold shooting dooms Wofford against No. 14 Badgers

Wofford coach Mike Young told his players they'd get some great shots against Wisconsin.

Mostly, they got just one each possession - and not many of them went in.

The Terriers shot just 26 percent Saturday night and fell to the No. 14 Badgers 69-33.

''I hope it's not a product of us not being very good shooters,'' Young said, giving the Badgers' defense some credit for his team's shooting woes.

The Badgers (3-0) also struggled with their shooting touch early. But unlike Wofford (1-2), Wisconsin snapped out of it.

Wisconsin came in shooting 52 percent from 3-point range, but the Badgers often settled for outside shots early. Hitting 2 of 9 from behind the arc to start the game, they led just 13-10 midway through the first half before starting to play more of an inside-outside game that helped them pull away.

Josh Gasser hit a 3-pointer to start a 19-2 run that closed the half, and Rob Wilson capped the spurt with another 3. Things started clicking when the Badgers began to
