Bobby Bowden in No Mood to Celebrate 80th Birthday

by Jim HenryFiled under: Clemson, Florida State, ACCBobby Bowden turned 80 on Sunday, but he wasn't in the mood to celebrate. Bowden's Florida State Seminoles lost a key ACC game at Clemson and also their starting quarterback, Christian Ponder, possibly for the season with a separated shoulder in the process on Saturday. Talk about a family funk. Bowden's son, Terry, whose coaching staff includes younger brother Jeff, saw his undefeated and top-ranked Division-II North Alabama Lio...

Free pick: Florida State Seminoles vs. Clemson Tigers

Yes it is probably the strongest betting days in years for those who track the top football handicappers. Among the free picks is one from superstar Matt Rivers. Rivers has bet on Florida State +9 points at Clemson, using BetUs Sportsbook. I don't care how inept and pathetic and horrific Bobby Bowden's team has looked at times. Nor do I care how CJ Spiller and the Clemson Tigers are playing their best ball of the season right now. This number is too darn overinflated and this thing ...

This is the longest week of Florida State's increasingly miserable season, a bye that gives the 'Noles five extra days to mull over their three consecutive losses before their next attempt to stop the bleeding Thursday at North Carolina. There, another loss would drop FSU to 2-5, 0-4 in the ACC and practically ensure the 'Noles' first losing season in 30 years with four more losable conference games and Florida still to come. Assistant may not be coming to blows (yet) at the ...

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets beat the Florida State Seminoles 49-44

In the first half, it was one of the craziest outbursts of offense that any college football fan has ever seen. Neither team punted and it was 35-28 at the half. Florida State received the ball to open the game, and quickly marched straight down the field to score a touchdown, much like last year's game in Atlanta. Also much like that game, Georgia Tech responded quickly with a score of its own.
At that point in the game, the weather was a factor, and the game was put on hold du...

Sources close to the Athletic Department at Florida State University have told OSG Sports that the University plans to take their case challenging the NCAA to the Florida State Supreme Court for appeal and evaluation.
The Return of the Florida State Criminoles

FSU Football's MVP from last year, Preston Parker, was caught with a .45 pistol in his car and some weed. Here's a funny look at the Florida State Criminoles.

Star Florida State Athlete Arrested

Florida State University is no stranger to the law. Early Tuesday morning, 21 year old Preston Parker was arrested in South Florida on charges of carrying a concealed .45-caliber handgun and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

Preston Parker last year led the Seminoles in all purpose yards with 1,513 and 62 receptions. In one of the issues of the FSView (The Florida State University newspaper), a whole three page spread was dedicated to Parker, giving him the title of Mr. Versatile for his ability to play virtually any position on the offensive side of the ball with ease.

Last year's MVP of Florida State is awaiting an announcement from FSU officials. This is the first major discipline problem at FSU since the arrival of new athletic director Randy Spetman.

With FSU already on self-probation from last year's late Online-Class Cheating scandal that placed over 30 players on the sideline of the bowl game, FSU will have a lot on their plate and a lot of questions to answer.

Flordia State Players Face Suspension For Online Cheating Scandal

Cheating is all the rage in sports recently. Sure, gaining an edge on an opponent has probably always existed, from pitchers doctoring baseballs to bosses stacking inner-office basketball games in their favor. But this year, cheating has been taken to a new level, and as many as 20 Florida State football players are reminding everyone that it need not be defined to the actual realm of sports. It can occur, I don't know, say in an online college class.

According to a report from ESPN.com's Mark Schlabauch, as many as 20 football players at Florida State, as well as student athletes from other sports, will face suspensions following an investigation into a cheating scandal revolving around online courses. If the football players are suspended they can not participate in the teams New Year's Eve Music City Bowl against Kentucky, along with the first 3 games of the 2008 season.

I'm a little caught off guard about this, because before now I just kind of assumed that the players actually did not participate in any classes. In the ol' days I believe they just focused on what's most important, football, and their teachers just passed them on.

I don't know just how much I can add to this story, but I should say that I have some own personal experience in the temptation of academic cheating. Once in first grade during a spelling bee the bonus word was "baseball". Well, being the same obsessive sports fan I am today, only 2 1/2 feet shorter and with a Mario Lemieux poster on my wall (actually who am I kidding, I still have 66 on my wall), I was wearing a baseball t-shirt that had the word "baseball" spelled out clearly on it.

Sadly I must admit I gave in to the temptation and cheated off my apparel, and I still carry the guilt for it to this day.
