Five Teams That Can Unseat The SEC For The National Title In 2013

Will another team from another conference win the national title in 2013? After seven straight national titles for the SEC is it even feasible that an SEC team won’t take it all again in 2013? These are two questions that are on millions of college football fans minds.
Well here are five teams that have a legitimate shot at unseating the SEC from the top perch. After all, remember in 2000 when Oklahoma had no chance against a supposed un-defeatable Florida State playing in Florida? Remember how Texas A&M was going to be routed in the SEC and crushed by Alabama in Tuscaloosa? Well, we know how those turned out. So, anything is possible and these five teams have the potential at least on paper to beat an SEC champion and win a national title in 2013.

EJ Manuel: This NFL stuff is easy

When the Bills shocked pretty much everybody and traded back to select Florida State QB EJ Manuel with the 16th overall pick , the immediate question was almost universal:

Can he harness his raw talent to succeed in the NFL?

Well, so far so good -- if you ask Manuel.

According to ESPN.com, Manuel said during an NFL Radio interview on Sunday that, "The funny thing is (the Buffalo offense is) easier to learn than the offense I had at Florida State. It's a true West Coast-type progression offense. That's really what I wanted when I was coming through the pre-draft process. I wanted something that I could just go in and say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, check it down and run it. That's it, it's that simple. I love it."

Asked whether that easy understanding has translated to success on the practice field, again, Manuel wasn't hurting for confidence.

"I've done great," ESPN reported he said in the radio interview. "The learning curve for me is a lot shorter simply because of w

Video: Florida State’s ACC Championship Rings Are Gorgeous

Oregon might have some competition for the most bling a school can put on a ring. Florida State’s ACC Championship rings were unveiled a few days back, and the video below shows you a 360-degree view of what they look like.
The face of the ring features the Seminoles logo, a ridiculous number of diamonds and the words “2012 ACC Champions” running along the edges. The right side features the score of the game vs. Georgia Tech, while the left side features coach Jimbo Fisher’s name. The underneath says “13 ACC Championships”. Check it out:

FSU AD Randy Spetman thinking big on facility upgrades

Athletics director Randy Spetman has a busy plate with theday-to-day operations at Florida State. One project close to completion is the footballprograms indoor practice facility, scheduled to be completed by Aug. 1. There are also ambitious visions of how to reshape DoakCampbell Stadium and the Civic Center, and to prioritize the upgrades based onthe needs of fans and the dollars available. In an ideal world, Spetman saysthat 200 million could be spent at Doak and another 100 million at the CivicCenter.Neither amount is realistic, so administrators areevaluating remodeling options and working with architectural firms to decidehow to best use their fund-raising dollars. What improvements are you looking to make at Doak CampbellStadium?Spetman: We hired a firm, HKS, to do a whole analysis with theboosters. We have great concern how do we take care of our fans through thefuture? With the advent of HDTV, 3D TV and everything thats going on and whatweve seen in the trend of people staying at home instead of coming

Five-star linebacker wants to be released from FSU

The most coveted member of Florida States class of 2013 is apparently looking to go elsewhere.
Miami Booker T. Washington Matthew Thomas, considered one of the top linebackers in the nation by Scout.com, told the Miami Herald on Monday that he is seeking a release from his scholarship so that he can instead attend Georgia or Southern California.
Ive told them its nothing personal. I just didnt make the decision I really wanted to on Signing Day, Thomas told the Herald.
What happened was on Signing Day was I wasnt sure who I wanted to sign with. I had issues with different schools. But when I told my mom I didnt want to sign with anybody and wait and give it a few days she said I couldnt do that. She said, FSU is a good school pick them. Its close to home. I wasnt agreeing with it. But I felt like I was being disrespectful to her if I didnt sign. So I made her happy.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Thomas was one of the crown jewels of the Seminoles class in February. Scout.com praised Thomas as a fast, athletic and

Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett transferring to West Virginia

Junior Paul Millard and redshirt freshman Ford Childress spent the spring in Morgantown fighting for the starting quarterback job at West Virginia. As expected, that battle will continue into fall camp with neither quarterback gaining a sizeable lead in the race throughout spring camp. That race will have a new participant when practice resumes this fall with Wednesday's announcement that former Florida State quarterback, Clint Trickett, has officially announced his intention to transfer to West Virginia in hopes of earning the starting quarterback job. Trickett will graduate from Florida State this spring meaning he'll be eligible to play this fall…

QB Clint Trickett transferring to West Virginia

Former Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett has transferred to West Virginia.

West Virginia football spokesman Mike Montoro confirmed Trickett's transfer Wednesday. Trickett was released from his Florida State scholarship last month.

The junior is on target to graduate this month and can transfer and be eligible to play in the fall. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Trickett had been competing for the Seminoles' starting job during spring practice that wrapped up in mid-April.

He will compete in West Virginia's fall camp with Paul Millard and Ford Childress for the starting job left by the departed Geno Smith.

Trickett's father, Rick, spent six seasons as offensive line coach at West Virginia before leaving for the same job at Florida State in 2007.

Trickett completed 22 of 32 passes for 259 yards during Florida State's spring game, but redshirt freshman Jameis Winston was the star and seemed to establish himself as the front-runner to start this season. Sophomore

Bills Drafted EJ Manuel Because He Worked Out Well in the Rain

I don’t like teams who just draft players because of workouts and measurables, especially quarterbacks. Listen closely to the Bills reasoning behind drafting Manuel.
Bills coach Doug Marrone revealed in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that Manuel impressed Buffalo’s brass by throwing the ball well during an extremely windy thunderstorm at a private workout in Tallahassee, Fla.
Marrone said that Manuel’s performance in the wet, windy conditions helped convince the Bills that the former Florida State star would be able to handle inclement weather in Buffalo, especially in December and January.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 237 pounds, Manuel has a strong arm, is mobile and went 25-6 in four years with the Seminoles. He also had the largest hands (10 3/8 inches) and longest arms (35 inches) of any of the quarterbacks at the NFL scouting combine.
“We started talking about the quarterbacks, and we went back and researched all the teams that played in the Northeast in the bad weather and all the success they

For the Bills, EJ Manuel's private workout in a thunderstorm set him apart from the rest

The city of Buffalo can be pretty rough weather-wise, and that's apparently something the Bills strongly considered when drafting a quarterback.

Many scratched their heads at their first round selection of EJ Manuel over Syracuse alum Ryan Nassib or West Virginia's Geno Smith, but they're giving us a little insight into how and why they made their choice.

"I remember when I first got the job here in Buffalo, and I had been up here and played up here before, and I got out of the car in January and the wind I was like, 'Wow.' I never realized how windy it was that time of the year," Marrone said, via BuffaloBills.com. So Marrone and his staff had bad weather on thier minds when they hosted some of these QBs in for workouts.

What really stood out for them was a particular private workout with Manuel during a nasty thunderstorm in Tallahassee, Florida, where he apparently impressed them enough to go 16th overall in the Draft. Marrone also saw a correl...

Florida State Football: QB Clint Trickett transferring; Jameis Winston to start?

Clint Trickett has announced his decision to transfer, leaving the Florida State quarterback battle between a sophomore and two freshmen.

The Florida-Times Union is reporting that Trickett approached Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher of his interest in leaving the program, who then granted his release of scholarship.

“After a long meeting with Clint, he expressed he’d like to explore another playing opportunity, and I’ve signed off on his wish,’’ Fisher said.

Trickett’s departure is likely the after-effect from the emergence of true freshman quarterback Jameis Winston, who finished 12-of-15 for over 200 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game last Saturday.

Winston was one of the most highly-touted recruits in the nation for the class of 2012, earning rights from nearly every major scouting company as the No. 1 overall dual-threat quarterback.

A true leader on and off the field, Winston is on the right path to become one of the top prospects for the 2016 NFL Draft. He ...

Jameis Winston working double duty for FSU

Jameis Winston isn't content just playing one sport well in college.
Even if the two sports have overlapping seasons, Winston is willing to juggle.
But on Saturday, the Florida State football-baseball standout took it to another level.
Winston began the day in football meetings before the team's 10 a.m. practice in Tallahassee. A redshirt freshman quarterback, Winston is in a three-way quarterback battle with redshirt junior Clint Trickett and redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker to replace EJ Manuel.
After football practice, Winston hopped on a flight for Miami to join the Seminoles baseball team for that night's game in Coral Gables.
Winston was impressive in three innings of relief, retiring all nine batters that he faced.
"We knew this was an opportunity that might come up," Winston told the Tallahassee Democrat. "It was a long day but I didn't feel any wear and tear on my body."
Winston has had a busy week. He had football practice on Monday, pitched and was the designated h

Top NFL draft prospects do Harlem Shake

It was only a matter of time.
With the "Harlem Shake" dance currently sweeping the country, several NFL draft prospects jumped on the chance to participate in the latest craze.
For those who don't know, the dance starts with one person (in this case, speed coach Loren Seagrave) busting a few moves while bystanders act oblivious. Eventually, all hell breaks loose and dancing turns into spastic movements with masks and assorted inanimate objects.
The video was recorded at the IMG Academy, a renowned facility where highly-touted college athletes train in preparation of their NFL careers.
It's hard to tell in the chaotic mess, but a few top-five prospects (Luke Joeckel, Bjoern Werner) and surefire first-rounders (Matt Barkley, Manti Te'o) can be spotted going wild. Teo's girlfriend, however, is nowhere to be found.
