Edwin Williams Gets To Live His Dream (But Can't Understand Casey Rabach)

Getting to live your childhood dream isn't the kind of thing that just happens to people. Say, as a purely hypothetical example, that you're a kid who went to school at DeMatha and grew up rooting for the Redskins. You played football at the nearby University of Maryland, but went undrafted in the NFL. Even if some team wants you, there's no guarantee it'll be the one you rooted for as a kid.Even if that team does want you, there's no reason to assume you'll make the ...

Edwin Williams: 'The story has just begun'

When Washington Redskins right guard Chad Rinehart went down with an injury early in the third quarter of Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, undrafted free agent Edwin Williams became the latest name to go through the revolving door and land on the Redskins' offensive line. Williams, a former Maryland Terrapin, is the 11th offensive lineman to step into the lineup this year on a unit that has suffered a string of injuries. And with Rinehart out for the season with a broken fibul...

Notes from the 29-26 loss

This looked like a win. I think the key play was when freshman kicker-punter Nick Ferrara -- who has had a very good season -- couldn't punt the ball out of bounds with the Terps leading and about two minutes left.

Florida State's Greg Reid, the ACC's leading punt returner, took it back 48 yards and the Seminoles were in great position to score the game-winning touchdown.

Having said that, how many backup punters in college football can do it as well as Ferrara (who averaged...

Terps led -- for a moment

With Maryland trailing 14-13, receiver Adrian Cannon caught a swing pass, slipped a tackler and raced into the end zone for a 20-yard score on the opening possession of the fourth quarter. A two-point conversion pass failed, so Maryland led 19-14.

Offensive lineman R.J. Dill cupped his hand to the ear hole of his helmet as if it to say to the Florida State crowd, “Where’s the noise now?”

But, just like that, the noise returned. The Seminoles regained the lead on their next possession wh...

Wujciak keeps Terps in the game

Maryland scored an offensive touchdown. I promise.

It was the first such touchdown for the Terps in almost eight quarters since starting quarterback Chris Turner sprained his knee in the second quarter against N.C. State two weeks ago and Jamarr Robinson replaced him.

It was set up by the defense.

The Terps trailed 14-6 in the second quarter when linebacker Alex Wujciak intercepted E.J. Manuel’s third-down pass and ran 82 yards to the Florida State 7. Wujciak had returned an intercep...

Terps a little punchless early on

Quarterback Jamar Robinson is starting slowly against Virginia Tech in his first career start.

Trailing 14-0, Maryland did not have a first down until its third possession.

Robinson completed his first two passes of the game on the series. From the Virginia Tech 27, his throw into the end zone for Torrey Smith attracted a 15-yard pass interference penalty, sending the ball to the 12.

Nick Ferrara followed with a 36-yard field goal, cutting the Hokie lead to 14-3.

Can Jamarr Robinson take the helm and win?

Maryland does not have much to play for right now. The ACC is out of reach and with a 2-7 record, a bowl is not attainable. Worse, Chris Turner was gone down and has a probable MCL injury, so Jamarr Robinson will take the quarterback position most likely against Virginia Tech. As Scott McBrien said on the Terrapin postgame show, five wins sounds a lot better than two, but the road to try to get there is perilous.Against N.C. State, Robinson took over for Turner who went down, and he seemed to...

Backup quarterback Jamarr Robinson entered on Maryland's next possession and fumbled the first snap. The Terps recovered the fumble. But Robinson didn't attempt a pass on his first series, which ended with a blocked Maryland field goal.

Duke began the game with 12 straight pass plays. Harder to pass now that the rain has intensified, but it's what the Blue Devils do.

Another fumble for Terps

Davin Meggett fumbled (again) on Maryland's first series. That's the bad news for the Terps.

The good news is that Maryland is running the ball better early in the game. The Terps' running game has been dormant most of the season.

Maryland has 52 rushing yards.

Will the rain be a factor? Probably. But the weather didn't cause Meggett's fumble -- a hard tackle did.

Hartsfield suffered the injury last week at Wake Forest.

"If he starts favoring it and can't tackle, then I’ll get another guy in there," coach Friedgen said today. "I am a little concerned about it. He's basically playing with one hand."

Maryland's short reign atop the Atlantic Division is over with the loss to Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. The Deacs had the type of team that could beat Maryland, a strong passing team against a weakened secondary, and they exploited this advantage over and over again. It is hard to place blame in correct places. Wake Forest is just a better team, could the secondary have really stopped Riley Skinner? Could the Terps running game be effective with the "running back by committee?"...
