After last week's sub par picking, week seven doesn't give me much of a chance to get back into the swing of things.

A.J. Highsmith is 100 percent a Hurricane!

As he sat in the stands watching future opponent Missouri City Elkins play against Fort Bend Marshall, University of Miami commitment A.J. Highsmith and his impressive Fort Bend Hightower team felt pretty good about their chances this season

Miami Hurricanes will rely heavily on underclassmen

Good news: Coach Randy Shannon should have no trouble convincing recruits that they can play right away at the University of Miami.

Bad news: One of the youngest teams in college football just got even younger.

Already heavily reliant on underclassmen, UM announced season-ending or potentially season-ending injuries to three veterans this week -- senior defensive end Eric Moncur, senior right tackle Reggie Youngblood and junior linebacker Colin McCarthy. Senior safety Randy Phillips also is out indefinitely.

The injuries will increase the burden on the team's younger players, who also will be without some of the leaders whose mentorship has been key to their development.

College Football Preview: 2001

When FIO humor writer Brian Lutz went to sit down and bang out a College Football Preview at the beginning of this season, he got sidetracked (to say the very least). Knowing that he couldn't do a preview mid-season, Lutz pulled out a 2001 edition of Street & Smith's and went to work. Check out this article as we stroll down memory lane to see the biggest busts, the biggest surprises and how King James and two major league baseball players were amongst the nation's finest.

It was a soggy day at Dolphin Stadium, but for once, the Seminoles and Hurricanes lit up the scoreboard. Jason Garcia captured the "calm" before the storm when he spoke with numerous tailgating fans to question both their wit, and their spirit.

College Football: Buddy Ryan Bounty at LSU

After watching the Los Angeles Dodgers destroy the Chicago Cubs, I caught the late college football scores on ESPN. I then decided early Sunday morning to watch ESPN's replay of the Missouri - Nebraska game from Lincoln, NE.

Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel drove the #4 ranked Tigers down the field to score a touchdown in less than a minute. The game was less sixty seconds old and everyone in the house knew it was going to be a long night for the Cornhuskers, which the final score reflected: Missouri 52 Nebraska 17

Nebraska fans need to give first-year head coach Bo Pelini some time to turn around the program, and don't use Nick Saban's resurrection of the Crimson Tide program as a comparison. Saban walked into a situation at Alabama where there was talent in place, Pelini will need to recruit better athletes to Nebraska's downtrodden program.

Not a great week of predictions

The first three weeks of the season have gone ok for me when it comes to picking games. First week 4 and 2, same with the second, while the third one I lowered my bar a bit and went 3 and 3. So, after 18 games I have a 11 and 7 record (.611 winning percentage).

Another week and another chance at picking the ACC games, except for the UNC game that is. Plenty of good match ups, even though there is two pretty big spreads, which always scare me.
